    Hey people, I’m trying out a new format to not bore you (and myself) by explaining every little detail. I’d like to aim it more toward instructional overviews, with the final files always freely attainable. Also don’t forget to go check out TheBaseMesh (links in description)

      Its great! I think your other in depth shader videos got me familiar with making graph based shaders, so the quick overview is nice. Its easy to follow still and we can always pause and look at the nodes in depth.

    • @PolyToots
      @PolyToots  2 роки тому

      @@-nickdev I think just pausing the screen is going to be annoying for this video. (files are freely downloadable though). But yeah I'll keep that in mind for the future, to always make sure I show the whole setup with enough clarity. Thanks for your comment!

      I never got bored! I understood most of the content on the video, so for me the speed was alright, except for the singularity one, that one was a bit too fast for me. I'm sure I'll be able to grasp it once I get the files and take more time to absorb it though. Thanks for the videos!

    I used to think I preferred more detailed instructional content, but now I'm learning that I like when details are missing. Especially when I have to figure out some of it myself. Helps me practice and retain what I learn better.
    Great video!

      It's a fine edge I think. Looking back on this video there are things I probnably should have explained better instead of "just do this, add this". But yeah I'm trying to bring the focus more toward showing the general idea, and then let people dissect the final files themselves if they're inclined. Thanks for your thoughts!

    Been watching your video's for a while and they've been very helpful in showing how shaders work, the node system is a good visual helper, thank you! Offtopic question though: Do you have any experience programming shaders? Does it give you more control or is it preference?

    • @PolyToots
      @PolyToots  2 роки тому

      I'm first and foremost a 3d Artist, so I've never done any proper coding, some basic scripts but nothing major. There are definitely way more options if you decide to go the code route, but that's not for me at all, and tools like shadergraph (and unitys visual scripting) really allow people like me to dig into some technical stuff without having to bother a coder for a lot of things.

  • @PRodi_

    Great Tutorial! - btw. what about making holes in mesh on mouse click ? - do you have some tutorial about that in your future plans?

    • @PolyToots
      @PolyToots  2 роки тому

      I typically avoid anything that has scripts which need to be attached to get working, I have no interest in teaching any of that (as it's not a part of my day-job, I am not the right peson to teach it) but I have been mulling over the idea of including some extra functionality for some tutorials, I would just provide the files as usual, but not try to explain the code side. Nor could I offer support when Unity decides to change their API/whatever else and the scripts stop working.

    Holy sh**t! Amplify is $80.00 !?! Thank you Unity for bringing node based shaders to the editor for free.

    • @PolyToots
      @PolyToots  2 роки тому +2

      If you can catch it in a sale it's worth it (if you're doing shader stuff regularly). It's much quicker to work with than shadergraph and offers a lot more "behind-the-scenes" options too, if you're into that. I do appreciate shadergraph for being free though, very accessible, and still very cool.

    i'd like to implement it, but do you know how to add texture to your amplify shader? i think it would be great if we still can input some standard texture like albedo, normal & ao.
