God bless HMS HOOD and her crew, Hood was a Battle Cruiser that went face to face against the world's FIRST fast Battleship. Cheers lads, you have done a man's job, sleep well.
@@walterkronkitesleftshoe6684 Thankyou. I recently purchased a art print feathering HMS Hood By Robert Taylor. I'm going to attempt to make a little collage dedicated to HMS Hood.
@@dutchman7216 A fine tribute & sentiment Dutchman.... If you need any further inspiration for your homage, the "HMS Hood association website" would be a good source for you. I'd post a link to the site but if I do YT kindly delete my post. Best wishes.
Given that it was needed more than five battleships and dozens of plans to win the fight with the Bismark, it seems the HMS Hood and Prince of Wells was foolish go on to a threesome with it. Anyway respect to the all courageous and brave men fought on the ships of both sides.
Please don't be mistaken and believe that the RN needed all those ships to attack & sink Bismarck. The RN Home Fleet, aided by a small number of ships from the Mediterranean Fleet were needed to find and corral a fast ship in the 41,000,000 square mile vastness of the north Atlantic. 68 RN ships were mobilised or diverted from other duties, of those 19 made contact with Bismarck, and after being stopped from running away just 2 battleships and 2 cruisers were required to put her on the bottom of the Atlantic.
It only took that many ships to find Bismarck because they had to search the whole Atlantic. In the final battle, if it can even be called that, Bismarck was basically solo'ed by HMS Rodney. The others just put the boot in after Bismarck was crippled.
It's different in this case. Firstly, its not like another country is ravaging through the remains looting it. Secondly, Hood was mangled after the explosion, not much was left of her. You may have that opinion, but the families who went to the memorial would think differently, the bell symbolises that they are not only home, but that there duty is finally over.
The American would've put an AA mount the Germans would've put a catapult the Japanese would put another turret but the british made sure they had the finest tea making facilities that would ever go on sea Yuro-
I would tend to agree but since it was a survivor of the Hood who requested the bell be recovered to honour his fallen shipmates who are we to say otherwise
🇬🇧Respect to a good ship, & crew from Wyoming USA. 🇺🇸
I don't know which is the bigger miracle: this bell surviving the ship's explosion, or it having been found.
bells can take quite a bit of abuse. No surprise there.
In all honesty just thankful it was found and preserved. I'd like to know where it is?

Congratulations on this artifact, if I visit I’d definitely pay tribute all the men lost on HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse.
Visiting Portsmouth this weekend - can’t wait to see it
I guess that you can consider the bell to be lucky to have survived the mighty shot of Bismarck xd
Folks, those three old guys were the only survivors. Hand salute to them.
MY GRANDFATHER WENT DOWN WITH HMS HOOD. I NEVER MET HIM.
A pity the Bismarck's bell has never been found and never will be. I went to Portsmouth in 2019, specifically to view this bell.
She was a beautiful ship, but carried what would prove to be a deadly flaw in her design.
Put those taxes to good use, we want a Hood replica!
I thought they bungled being able to to recover it as it slipped from there grasp but it looks like some one went back and got it !
Looking pretty good for surviving a massive explosion and over 80 years under water
where is it now ??
Royal Navy museum in Portsmouth dockyard.

Looting a War Grave and no justification for doing so
Not in this case.

@ yes especially tea with sugar cubes
The bell should be with the ship
