"You don't have to know how to finish the project, you just have to know what the next step is." This maker's truth rang out loud and clear. A lot of the time, I get bogged down by information overload thinking so many steps down the line in any project and everything that needs to happen to get to the final product that it really affects the process as a whole. This quote makes me think about the presence of mind in the here and now: not looking back and being frustrated with mistakes, not anxious about the tribulations of the steps to come. Incremental steps, one step at a time. Thanks Adam, that's getting etched on a plate and set up in my shop!
I was getting a "secret agent" vibe from that last montage music... I pictured the scene cuts to black, then fades back in, with Adam dressed in a tux, walking up and taking aim with the now completed Samaritan gun, pointing right at camera, the metallic aperture closes in, he shoots, red fills the screen, cut to black. Savage. Adam Savage. Loving this series Adam!
For those also wondering, the wood is specifically "aromatic cedar" if you're looking for a term to google on why he's getting that "IT SMELL SO GOOD!" reaction. TIL
Making the striking piece on the hammer is precisely what gun makers would really do. It would deform if it were made of softer stuff. Your attention to detail is admirable.
I was really struggling to fight the urge to post a reply to Adam saying "I'll be by next tuesday". I am glad I was not the only one with such thoughts going through his head.
Please do not do this unless he explicitly says so. He has a right to privacy and I imagine if he were to open that up he would be flooded day and night. I don’t want this to come off as lecturing or mean, but I also don’t want to see a video in the next couple weeks with a title along the lines of “being a fan is ok, but...”
One of the best woodworkers at being able to visualize the interior in juxtaposition with the exterior of the finished carving that I can think of is none other than the amazingly talented and innovative, Jimmy DiResta. You did very well here, Adam. Very well indeed.
I absolutely love how you don't gloss over your measuring and re-measuring your work. It's so important. 14:00 has an amazon plug. To go through all that time making a beautiful grip, then having to put on the witness marks, are the mark of a modelmaker. Kudos.

The real question is, if we get the next episode next Wednesday, or in a few months. I hope for the best and that next Wednesday we will get at least the case build. Great series Adam :)
Love that you brazed it with silver solder. People that have never done that do not understand how hard it can be. Getting one piece into position then when you go to do the next part you use too much heat and knock the first one out of position. Great work!!
I enjoy Adam's builds almost as much as I enjoy watching him frame shots so that we catch his top left shoulder and none of the piece he's working on during timelapses. Gives me a good laugh. Genuinely, thanks for your generosity creativity, Mr Savage
As excited as I am to see where this goes with the blackening and weather, I really love the silver steel look of it currently with the brass parts accenting it. Instead of Hellboy's Samaritan, it's its own entity.
The bigger question is: if I come to your cave and you hand me that beautiful masterpiece - will you be able to run fast enough to catch me afterwards? :D Awesome build as always. Thanks!
Wood from the true cross glued together with glue made from the donkey Marry rode to Bethlehem. Gotta keep that lore continuity! Jokes aside, beautiful build, i hope you do more movie props like this in the future!

I don't know the official stories for that, but according to tradition the cross consists of a vertical piece, a horizontal piece, and sometimes a board under Jesus's feet and/or a plaque. So possibly four separate pieces.
I am glad this channel taught me knolling. I recently put a pc together and it was soo satisfying to work out every screw, etc, that was required for every step and it made the whole process soo much easier and more enjoyable.
If it’s true the grip was made from a cross, you should had made the cross first, then made the grip...from the cross. The hardest part however would be to find a guy named Jesus to hang from it for a few days. I mean... who wants to do that?
It's actually a tradition in Brazil that's being practiced til this day. To be closer to Jesus, some people actually hang themselves up on a cross. Nails in hands included. Finding a Jesus there might not be the hardests thing to do.
A CNC milling Machine might be helpful in some situations of a project like this. Next Project !? I built a small CNC milling machine from scratch - you might enjoy watching it :-)
How cool would it be to actually make a functional weapon based on the Samaritan man? You are just so talented my dude. I love watching you work, it's hypnotizing and inspiring at the same time. Much love to you and yours Adam.
Look, to aid is to be helpful. To abet is to encourage, But "aiding and abetting" means to assist another in the commission of a crime by words or conduct. No crimes here, this build is fantastic!
I like what you said about not needing to know how to finish a project so long as you know what the next step is. Some of my favorite creations have come together one step at a time with only a foggy noti0on of where I'll eventually end up. Cheers.
Man if I were in your mancave...you'd never get me out! Lol! I can relate to taking apart and assembling as you go along. To me it's a way to make sure all parts fit properly. For example: I'm building an 1853 Colt Single Action Army Revolver prop from cardboard boxes and having it able to function. I've spent hours just fiddling with the hammer and trigger just to make sure they work together properly. Stay precise my friend...stay precise😊

Dude, that's very impressive. I love these movies, love that gun. If I may, Adam... I love your thought approach to projects. One step at a time is how anyone gets anywhere. Even guys like DaVinci who can "see" the statue in the marble n cut right to it. You do amazing work and to be honest I think what you're doing with this piece is even more difficult because you're going for a high amount of accuracy that someone else just say there building with complete artistic freedom and loose guidelines. It makes your sameritan even more impressive. Thank you for making these videos. Keep up the good work.
Adam, not sure if anyone else in the comments mentioned this but you can use the CA glue with Wood glue. put PVA in the center of the surfaces and then put the CA glue on the edges. Clamp the bad boy and spray it and you have the instant assembly for the impatience with the strength of the PVA after it dries for all the perfectionists.

Hello from The Shire...My father taught me how to carve wood, his favorite thing to say was, "Go slow and THINK about what you are about to do...You can always cut, or carve, a little more off...BUT, its almost impossible to cut, or carve, a little more on..."...You say "I'm creeping up on this or that line."...I can hear my father applauding in the background of my mind...If I still lived on the west coast, Oregon, I would be so happy to be able to visit your cave...You'd have to call in exterminators to get rid of me...Adam, you live a truly gifted and magical life...I am a little Hobbit with a Cave Troll's amount of envy...love the builds and am really exited with every one...please stay safe...
I love how humble Adam is his comment on the pricing made me connect on another level people don't typically see a TV personality as some who needs to be conscious of cost it's nice
That's only cause he isn't meaking tv money anymore. If he was...
The bandsaw carving portion must be what acid feels like
It feels like something out of a music video. I'm thinking maybe NIN or Mick Gordon?
i hope not
That part made me contract epilepsy. And I didn't have it before
Cedar, Pine and Cypress spells PCP, coincidence? I think not! ;-)
@@_TheDudeAbides_ close man real close might want to check the letters again though
Better title: Watch adam savage get high on the smell of cedarwood.
If there's one thing I learned from this video, it's that the True Cross probably smelled great.
For his own defense...it does smell amazing!!
@@NickK1291 What with all that Jesus's blood, sweat and tears.... Mmmmmm delicious (notice my sarcasm, btw)
For those also wondering, the wood is specifically "aromatic cedar" if you're looking for a term to google on why he's getting that "IT SMELL SO GOOD!" reaction. TIL
Reminds me of the time he made his apron
Making the striking piece on the hammer is precisely what gun makers would really do. It would deform if it were made of softer stuff. Your attention to detail is admirable.
At the end Adam said "If you come to the cave"
Does that mean we can just show up and get a tour? Because that would be awesome!
You and I heard the same thing. :-)
when are we going?
That’s my question 😂
I was really struggling to fight the urge to post a reply to Adam saying "I'll be by next tuesday". I am glad I was not the only one with such thoughts going through his head.
Please do not do this unless he explicitly says so. He has a right to privacy and I imagine if he were to open that up he would be flooded day and night. I’ve seen some content creators in the LA area where their general location was known be really creeped out by fans showing up unannounced.
I've been waiting for this since the last episode
I absolutely love how you don't gloss over your measuring and re-measuring your work. It's so important. 14:00 has an amazon plug. To go through all that time making a beautiful grip, then having to put on the witness marks, are the mark of a modelmaker. Kudos.
Adam Savages "several day" builds!! Haha! Excellent machine work, i've enjoyed following along!
Adam I only wished there were more videos form this awesome build. I remember myself making Terminator 2 prop guns when I was 10... so I love these specially :)
This is the best episode I have ever seen on UA-cam absolutely amazing.
That gun is a work of art fantastic 👍
I enjoy Adam's builds almost as much as I enjoy watching him frame shots so that we catch his top left shoulder and none of the piece he's working on during timelapses. Gives me a good laugh. Genuinely, thanks for your generosity creativity, Mr Savage
Every time one of these comes out it makes me want to rewatch the Del Toro Hellboy movies !
The second one was so good!
Thanks!
A work of art, mighty fine craftsmanship.
Adam Savage: “I’m going to chemically etch....
Me: Yaaaasssssssssss!!!
So satisfying.
One of my favorite things about the one day build series is watching your workbench slowly fill up with tools and disappear. It is so relatable
Oh god that one part I felt like my brain was shaking.
Wood from the true cross glued together with glue made from the donkey Marry rode to Bethlehem. Gotta keep that lore continuity! Jokes aside, beautiful build, i hope you do more movie props like this in the future!
You missed an opportunity to pull out the "It's hammer time!" line.
Stop!
U can't touch this. :-P
Adam Savage is as beloved as Stan Lee and Bob Ross, and just as inspiring. It's very hard to be in a sht mood when you watch these videos. On my bucket list, owning one of his replica builds.
I watched Clickspring long before Adam ever mentioned it. Its a shame he hasnt put out a video in over a year.
He has another channel which has more recent videos. They aren't the long narrated ones he used to do on his main channel but at least it is something - ua-cam.com/users/ClickspringClips
The weapon of choice for every Prius' glovebox...
20:43 "One day builds... brought to you by DeWalt tools... and Diet Coke"!
ha, thought the same
Between Adam and a couple of members of the Tested team, there are a LOT of heavy Diet Coke drinkers around here.
@@tested Would be good to ditch it tho, that swill is noooot good for your stomachs, especially now with all the stress going around. Had a friend who was sworn on diet coke (the European variety, which is better than the States side one, having tasted both) and he essentially wore a hole into his stomach lining from that crap.
Just my 2 cents, that stuff ain't good.
@@aserta From a 3 liter a day for 25 years diet coke junkie, if that stuff could kill you, I'd have been dead long before now.
Crazy genius! "I don't know how to tig weld, so 4.5 hours later I was good to go." You are a mad man, love it and this gun is absolutely gorgeous!!!
Drinking challenge: Take a shot every time Adam says that the handle is made of the true cross
Hi Adam from a very ..... Well rainy and dull Shetland. Hey! It is getting into winter now. Sunset at 18:00 Haha Yeah... The bad times are here. Just wanted to say I love your work. Your attention to detail is just flawless. Your skills have helped me. Honestly. I just build scale model aircraft kits and some 1/72 tanks. Things you have done that seem to have NO place in resin or injection kits WORKS!!!!!! I owe my enthusiasm during this time of lock downs increasing here (Only to be expected cause of stupid people socializing on pubs and on the streets after leaving).
OOOPS.. My bad social comment there that is not valid. I just want to say you keep me going though this. You have since March here in the U.K. Keep showing your skills. More so, Keep being the honest, caring, knowledgeable teacher. that you are. Keep doing everything you do during this hard winter.
Stay awesome my friend
kindest regards
Ross Munro
What's the name of the song that plays during the first Montage. I dig it.
Starts at 3:06
@@KevinLambertperfected says in the description that the intro music is by a Abe Dieckman, doesn't say a title so it's likely just a tune he made specifically for Tested but maybe he has some other music you like
Same. It such a great jam.
i was about to ask the same thing.
love that song
This indeed!
"If you come to the cave" #LifeGoals.
I don't know when I'll be in SF again. I used to travel there for work a few times a year before the end of the world. Hopefully in the next world I will get to travel to SF again, and also get to visit Adam Savage's cave. Such an amazing craftsman.
>"One day builds"
A week later...
"You don't have to know how to finish a project, you just have to know what the next step is." This applies equally as well to brain surgery recovery, I'm finding. (I'm on the "watch UA-cam makers obsessively" step.) Thank you a million times.
I'm still curious how the true cross could consist of 3 different woods.
I don't know the official stories for that, but according to tradition the cross consists of a vertical piece, a horizontal piece, and sometimes a board under Jesus's feet and/or a plaque. So possibly four separate pieces.
Wait until you hear about the guy on it, sht gets confusing real fast
@@WinchesterxNL yeah Adams in California there are plenty of Jesus'
@@WinchesterxNL Wow, totally didn’t expect that, but now that you mention it, makes sense. Thank you!
@@wzrdfrskn832 Well if you’re having a cross hanging festival in your area then I guess that would be simple.
Adam, u r best of the best!
*from Russia with love, & respect!
No crimes here, this build is fantastic!
hope you do more of these non-one day builds, they're really fun!
22:10 logan when charles forgets his meds
also great vid loveeeee it
Ahaha funny enough, thats how they shot that, shaking then stabilizing digitally, that's what his phone is doing.
I like what you said about not needing to know how to finish a project so long as you know what the next step is. Some of my favorite creations have come together one step at a time with only a foggy noti0on of where I'll eventually end up. Cheers.
It's a joy to see you work, Adam. You're something else.
Talented man Mr. Savage. Love your work, miss the OG myth-busters. Long time fan, still am
If you live in Texas and your neighbor pulls up with that big ass gun, you know some shit is going down.
Kudos to Adam for teaching himself how to TIG weld aluminum. As a man who TIG welds aviation parts for a living, I know that is no easy task.
This series has been so amazing adam please continue doing multiple part builds! Theres something so satisfying about them!
That is absolutely beautiful! Possibly my favourite thing adam has ever built... I have to admit I was never that fussed about the gun in the movie. But Adams looks amazing. I think it looks special unpainted!
Adam gives a nod to clickspring, I immediately hit the like button
One of your best builds yet... well done, inspirational.
Absolutely loved watching this build - the passion you have is apparent through the camera, and I can't wait to see more of it. Thank you.
Every time I watch one of your One Day Builds I am inspired to think of fun projects that I want to complete next time I have a weekend to myself. The Samaritan is looking amazing and it is definitely an inspiration for me to try and develop new skills in the future
This has been one of the coolest builds to watch. Well done Adam!
Intuition. Wisdom keeps us from making mistakes, but making mistakes is how we gain wisdom! There is no substitute for experience. Awesome!
That looks FABULOUS !! All of it WOW !! Superb Craftsmanship I just love it !! The time taken to make it shows every part of it !! AND I LOVE THAT HAND GRIP !!!
Yay! the next part! Del Toro had an excellent vision for Hellboy, and I wish they let him make part 3 with Ron Perlman, it would have been awesome.
I am savage for Savage!
I've absolutely loved watching this build!! So amazing and your talents are even more amazing!! Thanks for taking us with on your journey!!
I loved watching you make the handle and can't wait to see it blackened!
One of the best builds on this channel, awesome stuff!
Love the Clickspring shoutout! Chris is an absolute legend.
this is turning into an amazing build, every time theres a new video from Tested i get so excited hoping its another Samaritan video
