I think its biggest concern was fuel efficiency. Also if it got a bit wet then you could pull as much as you want didn't start because ignition system wasn't waterproof.
You probably haven't seen what Stihl was making in it's early years. This saw was actually won award in Brussels expo in 1958. At that time the design was ok.
