    Hay Badbrad, I just wanted to say that I am a new subscriber to your channel, as of today and I really enjoy listening to you and hearing about your experiences and I appreciate you sharing the stories and the wisdom as I am also fellow musician ( lead guitar). I am 53 years old now and I started playing when I was about 15 or 16 years old after seeing the mighty Van Halen or Van Hagar in concert. Eddie Van Helen was my idol after seeing him play his spot light solo and I wanted to be just like him but anyways, I landed a good job playing on the road when I was 21 years old and traveled non stop, playing just about every night for about 2 years straight all around the country, and man I really got an education out of that whole experience and it taught me a ton about many things besides just music. I also lived in Columbia Tn for close to 20 years and just recently moved back to my home town in Rome Georgia. Thank you for sharing your experiences and I love your show. I jammed with you on this video as I had to get my electric out and it does keep us alive. That was a fun jam and I look forward to many more and hearing your stories. Thanks and best wishes to you and your family

    Great video as always Brad. Side question for ya: how do Suhrs like that compare to an American Fender Strat? I only ask because I have multiple American Strats and don’t have access to try Suhrs out here and am always wondering am I missing out or is it just another similar flavor. I mainly am curious about feel (neck shape and playability)

    • @badbrad
      @badbrad  3 місяці тому +1

    I wish I could have been a musician, or learned to play something.....who didn't back in the 70s-80s? We had great music and the radio blasted iconic tunes 24/7, MTV videos, year after year. But alas....most of us knew we had to take life seriously, & get real jobs, do real drudgery and only dream of the RnR lifestyle. I hung out with too many musicians and bands to list. One thing I realized early on, was that musicians were, for the most part, exceptionally talented at their craft (they put a LOT of time and effort into learning it).....but in life, they were generally a train wreck. Almost without exception. The old adage of what do you call a drummer without a girlfriend.....(homeless)......was in fact the truth from what I saw. Or close to it.
    Looking back (and enjoying a early retirement with all the bells and whistles) I am glad I worked my ass off (at least the same amount of hours that a touring musician would have done, if not more, plus hell on the body) and now have zero worries about my upcoming golden years.....but it would have been fun to play a gig once. At least we have stories like Brad's to keep us entertained! I a thinking of learning to play something in my retirement just to see if I had any musical skill whatsoever, which is questionable at best. Then again...the guys I knew in bands were smart but only had discipline in their art....their lives were always a mess, which made it hard to be friends with anyone in a band. But they had guts to get on stage and play that thing. Which I always appreciated and admired. And always will.
    See you in the cheap seats....which is where I sit nowadays. I don't like standing up front anymore like when I was a kid....hurts my back!!!

      @@badbrad Thanks Brad....you as well. Congrats on going to FL.....huge state with huge difference depending on if you live north or south (i.e. the Orlando-Tampa line) and also Gulf vs Atlantic.
      I like the panhandle....also known as "LA"....which means lower Alabama...:)
      FL has changed a lot but has not gotten worse like Nashville has...i.e. it's more crowded and expensive, but didn't get dirtier, or deadlier by and large. Who knows what the future holds though. It seems to be nice and stable for the foreseeable future. A lot of big city refugees moved in after learning the hard way.

    I would be curious to know something about the whole process of getting gigs, negotiating pay, etc. Especially in some place that is NOT Nashville. I bet there are a lot of musicians like me, who live in places where the music scene is, let's say, not as exciting as Nashville. But we still want to be out there playing doing our best to entertain people and also make a little money at it. So your advice from your wealth of experience would be greatly appreciated!
