LyricsAnd when I see the sign that points one way The lot we used to pass by every day Just walk away Renee You won't see me follow you back home The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same You're not to blame From deep inside the tears that I'm forced to cry From deep inside the pain that I chose to hide Just walk away Renee You won't see me follow you back home Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes For me it cries Just walk away Renee You won't see me follow you back home Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes For me it cries Your name and mine inside a heart upon a wall Still finds a way to haunt me, though they're so small Just walk away Renee You won't see me follow you back home The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same You're not to blame
Vonda invests so much emotion in her music. She is unquestionably one of the finest SOUL singers alive today. Her interpretation of this Four Tops classic is just superb.
I loved the original and I love this version too. It reminds me of my late sister, her nickname was Reenie (Maureen), but this song invokes memories of her. She is now a sweet angel.
Had insomnia tonight and went looking for a music video of Walk Away Renee and then proceeded through all the covers. This version is the only one I heard through to the end. Well, and the 4skins version too. I absolutely love the original. I grew up on it.
For me, without a doubt, the best version of this romantic song !!! The voice and intonation of Vonda Shepard add a certain feeling of despair at the loss of that love.
I'm in tears, I went back to the years when I was barely 8, my mom was obsessed with Ally McBeal and we used to cuddle in the sofa and binge watch the seasons on DVD, we cried, laughed and fuck I'm so nostalgic rn.
One of my favorite songs!!! Different covers...doesnt matter. Love the instinctive harmonies. I do love the earthiness of this version...great job....thanks!
That unmistakable voice *instantly* sends me back to AllyMcBeal, a show that had a huge impact on me (was supposed to be a "girl" thing, so I didn't tell too many people how much I loved it... ;-) ) When I saw Vonda did a cover of this, I had my doubts - I'm not that much of a fan - but I'm quite impressed. She sounds more authentic here than in many of the AllyMcBeal covers or her own songs written for the show. This is a true performer doing a convincing, soulful and original cover of what has been rendered by so many great artists. She pulls it off, and makes me want to listen to more of her solo work! Great upload, thanks!

Has ANY television show since "Ally McBeal" used music so effectively, and made it an integral part of the show? Any? Any? I think not. "Ally McBeal" was a masterpiece, due in a great part to Vonda Shepard.
Yeah only one I guess : Cold Case. The use of music in this show is just spectacular, so fitting. I often surprise myself recalling part of the series when listening to some songs. So incredible. Part of the fact that the series didn't come out in DVD, songs credits prices would have been too high or they would have had to remove them, losing all substance in the storyline.
@@fredericroussel4217 -- Hey Frederic, thanks for responding to my comment FROM 2012! Wow! However, you are incorrect about the DVDs. I don't know when they were released, but I own the entire Box Set of the entire "Ally McBeal" series. And it contains all the music. Love it! Also, I own 2 CDs of music from the series: one CD of regular music used in the series, and one Christmas Album with music from the 5 (?) Christmas episodes. Mainly Vonda singing on the CDs, but others too. There might even be more CDs from the series than two; music was just so important to this show. 😊👍🎶

+Thomas L. Vicevich Actually Left Banke was not the original that was done by Sylvie Vartan and it was known as Quand un Amour Renee and was tucked away on a French EP early 1966

Bella canción. La oi primera vez en 1969 y aún sigue siendo de mis muy favoritas. Linda versión de su original por Left Bankee. Desde Costa Rica, saludos.
I would say that this cover sounds better than the original. However, It might be because I have listened to the original so many times because it is such a great song, that this version gives it a refreshing appeal.
I love Vonda Shepard's vocals and her original work is fantastic. This tune has been covered by a number of artists. While the Left Banke original is truly great, my favorite cover is by Southside Johnny. It's on UA-cam, but the studio version on "At Least We Got Shoes" is best. This was an import album, only available on vinyl, as far as I know. That version has great piano and tenor sax solos.
