Thanks so much guys for one of the best videos I have seen on youtube, I have had three X1/9s over the years and am looking at another, the most fun car I have ever had, you can not drive a Ferrari with this much fun because it requires higher speeds to get the same thrill. I live in paradise San Diego California and the car only adds to the experience. Thanks again.
Australian Christmas in shorts and flipflops.... That featured road is amazing and with the top off the X1/9 you can just smell the eucalyptus as you effortlessly carve through those sweepers. It's nice to see someone actually revving the motor through the entire power range. The tough little engines like to rev and to tap those 75 ponys you need to stay between 4 and 6,000.
Brilliant stuff fellas. Back in the early 90's i had an X19 for a few years. it was so much fun and watching this brings it all back. My was a mk2 1500cc but i think i know prefer the look of the early 1300's. i would love one now as a Sunday car.
Thanks for taking me back. I had a US spec 78 X1/9 with the huge bumpers. It didn't have the power of the European X1/9's, but was just a wonderful driving car. I later bought an 85 with the 1.5 liter and FI and 5-speed. A better car overall but I loved them both in their own way. Your shots of the car negotiating the turns are what the X1/9 is all about. The car had no power assist, brakes or steering, and people today will just never get to appreciate how connected the driver was with the road in this car.
That is sad. My '78 was rustproofed (Ziebart) but the '85 wasn't (except by the factory). I know there were rust issues on the '85 in the hidden area behind the front bumper. I had no rust issues on the '78. It cost $500 to Ziebart the $5,200 '78 X1/9. I must have read something that made me do it!
I'm really surprised to see these kind of cars (I mean like this one and the 206/164) in Australia, since I'm French, I didn't knew that they were popular in your country ;) Even more surprised the time when I saw the 164, cause I had a black QV (you can see this one on my channel ;) ). I like your videos and will continue to follow them. Thank you!!
Had three X-1/9's You CAN do fast in, just takes a little skill. Understeer on the brakes gently!! transition off the brakes to rotate the car. It isn't twitchy, it doesn't snap quickly. little sideways, then takes a set going out. One of the best handling mid engine cars with just slight suspension mods. Yours is lovely. I have many track hours in stock, slightly modified and track X's Still one of my favorite cars. Drove one on the street for 10 years.
I also had an X1/9 for years. A fantastic car. Lovely with an open roof. Too bad I no longer have a car because of my age, 87.
Greetings from Holland.
The sound of the 1300 revving is addictive :)
... so nice this sleepy eyes - and wonderfull fresh air - summer and winter. My BIG LOVE. And the motor sound around the ears - WOW.

This video is under rated. You South Australian's have your mark.
One can tell South Australia was free settled.
It came together really well! I want to go drive Lobethal Road again now.

I had a 1500cc in 1980. What an experience! Brilliant car. Unfortunately they were made with Russian steel and by 1985 it was as rotten as a pear...

Same car as 850 Spider!
I know, right? To my ears it almost sounded like a motorbike engine in those hills.
this green is the original fiat color?
+bravoumbus Looks similar to an original colour, yes! www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/first-drives/reviews/a8540/archive-dive-1973-fiat-x19/
Is that the 1300 or 1500cc?

Hi guys. Are you interested in selling your x1/9? I'm in Adelaide too.
Hi Tony - I'm fairly certain this particular X1/9 isn't for sale - thanks for your interest though!
