- What was Elvis' US Army Rank when Discharged? In what year was Elvis Honorably discharged? My now deceased 1st Cousin was Elvis' Platoon Sergeant during Basic Training. He said did not ask for; nor did Elvis want special privileges. He said Elvis was a fine soldier. This is a family oriented page - if you insist on using profanity, I will delete your comment as quickly as possible.

I have to say this really shows how humble, hard working, kind and sincere he really was.
I think a lot has to do with his southern upbringing. I like Southerners. To me the best Americans by far.
Elvis hadn't even had a chance to eat or relax until they wanted to pick his brain, still Elvis was quiet the Southern gentleman and granted the press what they wanted. He was not only the best looking man ever and the best entertainer of all time but he was also highly intelligent. Elvis always answers everyone so politely and with answers that make sense. I have watched this several times. I miss him so much.
Well he was to keyed up to eat. I remember when I came home from Vietnam I was the same way, I was so happy I couldn’t eat until a day or so later. You have to experience it to understand. So he probably enjoyed talking to the media, to lose tension, remember most big artists like talking about themselves, and someone like E has a lot to talk about.

Now, this not the same Elvis before the army.You can see that sad look on his eyes and a kind of "half speed" in his temper.I guess it is related to the loss of his mother more than with the army discipline or so.It was a great loss for him and came just when he was on top and wanted to share his succes with his family.Educated,humble,respectfull,talented and handsome.We´ll never see such an enterteiner never ever again.
Yes. Elvis just wanted to see his mother, as all servicemen want to do after they serve. She wasn't there anymore and he was sad. SIMPLE. Elvis NEVER changed, though. This is the same Elvis as the 50's, and the same as the 70's.

In fact i love music and listen to all kind of music from Bach to Metallica and in this large "musical trip" i couldn´t find a second Elvis.
He´s second to none,is unique and impossible to get even closer to him as an enterteiner.
I don´t consider myself as a fan of Elvis but from the first time i listened to his music i knew his place is on top of the Olympus where only the gods are allowed to be.

He’s definitely matured from being in the military away from home (which is one of the benefits of joining up, character building) but he’s also got to be freaking exhausted. Coming back from overseas duty is pretty tiring even without all the extra fanfare that he had to get through before he could relax. The sheer amount of questions you have to answer from relatives is enough to make you sleep for several days, let alone reporters too.

Daniela, in 1973, Elvis wanted - and tried - to fire the Colonel. But when the Colonel handed Elvis a bill - outlining what it would cost to get rid of him - Elvis' father almost had a heart attack. Both Vernon and members of Elvis' entourage put all kinds of pressure on Elvis to stay with the Colonel. Elvis relented, and it was downhill from there. That frustration led to Elvis being clinically depressed. He was so unhappy that he said that he'd rather be unconscious than be miserable - which is why he took all the pills.

I heard some people comparing Elvis and Michael Jackson, recently, and I’ll admit Michael was a tremendous performer, but when I see Elvis here it reminds me of his young days and I don’t think there’s any human being in the world that is in his league. Like Col Parker said Elvis you’re a phenomenon.
Micheal was a phenomenon since a child. Folks like to forget The Jackson 5 existed. Elvis is great but Michael is once in a lifetime. I can argue Justin Beiber is bigger than Elvis. Elvis’s music isn’t timeless like Micheals is.

Yeah he did want to, I just watched a show last night that mentioned that. I guess (which is what was reported in the show) he never could because of "The Colonel," his manager. Not sure what shady business the colonel had going on, nor can I recall since I was falling asleep, but they did mention something about his passport and again, some shady business. Also to appease the masses overseas they said that's why the colonel booked Elvis in Hawaii. Guess the colonel could get away with that right? lol. It truely IS a shame tho. :(
+Kelkeenb ThisIsBS Colonel Parker was not a American citizen, he was from the Netherlands. He entered America illegally by jumping ship from his employer's vessel. He was born Andreas Cornelis van Kuijk, but invented the Col.Tom Parker persona to hide the fact he was here illegally. He was afraid that if he left the country he wouldn't be let back in, this is why he wouldn't let Elvis tour out of the country.

If I could meet anyone from the early 1900’s it would be Elvis when he was in Germany. Because he was soooo good looking in that uniform. His hair looks the best like this.
