No offense meant, but like, really? Do people consider it hard? I just think that it would depend on whether or not the singer is comfortable in the tessitura, since it's not a super broad range. Besides that there's the one "high" note, which isn't very high at all. The only thing that would make that note hard, is if a singer tries to do a pure belt rather than a mix-belt. Not trying to downplay the talent of these women. Just saying that certain songs are easier for certain voice types, and I don't think this song is overly hard for people of the correct voice type.
You can't just look at the notes of a song to determine whether its a difficult sing. So Much Better is written in a way that is constantly building at breakneck pace, on top of the fact that you actually have to act it. LBB puts her heart and soul into it, compromising the total sound of the piece, whilst the Tour Elle from the Tony Awards sounds lovely but is boring to watch because she just has nothing going on. One note does not a hard sing make, but 3 minutes of building upto that one note certainly can be difficult when you take into account everything that goes into a singular show of Legally
Chelsea Checkington I’m a singer, this song (note wise) is well within my range. The difficulty of the song comes from the speed, the constant modulating, the fact that the phrasing makes it difficult to get a breath in and the fact that the final note is about 12 bars long, which is close to the length of a single audition cut. It is a DIFFICULT song. Most Sondheim songs aren’t very “range-y”, either, but they’re still incredibly hard to sing.
This song is perfect for my voice. I know much harder songs. I think this song is hard for people because it has lots of physical activity. Some people are better at holding notes than others.
Can we all take a moment to give props to the ladie who sang the demo version of "So Much Better" Because that was the original key and every other recording was lowered lol
Yep she's the best! Don't get me wrong I love Bailey. I love Annaleigh. I love Becky. I love Kerry. They're all great in their own way. But LBB has my whole heart. Bailey=Forgettable. Annaleigh= Too little. Becky= Not my style. Kerry= A little too mature. LBB= PERFECTION 😊
Vocals aside, LBB is THE Elle Woods. Period. End of story. Nobody has ever been more fitting for a Broadway role. The look, the attitude, the acting, the voice, the vocals. Absolutely perfect. Reese Witherspoon found dead.
They picked the worse performances for LBB and Annaleigh. Those two make this song look easy at their best, these recordings were not the ones I would've chosen.
I was working on Broadway at the time of Legally Blonde's run. It's common knowledge that aside from on the soundtrack & the MTV performance, LBB wasn't able to complete the run at the end of the song for most of her performances. This isn't me throwing shade, but it's still a good performance from her even if she didn't complete the run.
Clara Eke at the end of the run, the key mixed with the high note shredded LBB voice. she had to leave, if not, she could have completely fucked us her voice forever
Lexi's Lifestyle I just think the other girl had a better audition and fit the part so much more. The reason bailey got it was because she's blonde. Not because she was better then the other girl who auditioned (for the life of me I can't remember her name)
She just didn’t have what it takes to play Elle u need the sparkle and superficiality (which she had) but she lacked the wit and intelligence needed and her arc as Elle suffered bc of that
I loved what she did with the second “I am so much better”. LBB, Annaleigh, Kate, Sheridan and another understudy called Rebecca from the most recent UK tour, are my favourites but honestly, she wasn’t half bad.
Kenneth Ho Yeah but like if she knew she probably wouldn't be able to do that note (probably the most important note in the song) she shouldn't have done the song.
broadway stars absolutely DREAD interview performances. they are typically shot in the morning, and that’s very strange for a star’s voice as they are used to having an entire day to warm up and prep. it most likely that she realized halfway, “hey i can’t really hit this note right now and if i do, i might hurt my voice for the show tonight.” she made a smart choice

@@kristen4539 i mean this song is a bloody difficult song to sing if you're putting your all into it like LBB, and she didn't even hold the last note for as long as it was meant to be for the mtv performance. but when you have to exude energy and bounce around on stage while belting your heart out, i'd imagine it's really hard to keep that up especially if you're the main performer and have to do eight shows a week.

LBB will once again forever be my #1 queen she just struggled on the live MTV recording and we all know she can hit that note in her sleep. But I think Haven and Susan sounded fantastic as well!
After LBB, Lauren is one of my favorites, even if she was only Elle for a few weeks. Considering she was 18 during the MTV reality show she was only 19, *maybe* 20 when she did the tour. Crowley deserved better the funny thing is, she hit the note in the original key at the end or something close to it. They didn't need to lower the key of the song that low.
Bradley Vega They chose LBB worst recording for this video she rarely ever takes a breath on that last note. So LBB will always and forever be the best.
Bradley Vega uhhhh, that wasn't even the best video of LBB. not to mention how hard that note is? imagine having to repeat that note every night for a really long time? it's gonna have an effect on her voice...
Wow! I didn't even realise that Sheridan Smith could sing.... with so many of these though I was involuntarily raising my eyebrows hoping that the last note wouldn't be so flat. For me, Kaisa Hammerlund smashed it!
Actually I liked the Lucie Jones rendition towards the end; the hottest was Barbara Obermeier from Vienna; the Blonde Wig Award, however, goes to the one from Manila - that was a sight to behold.
StevenLee I went to see that tour, but her understudy, Rebecca Stenhouser was on instead, and honestly, she’s up there with LBB for this song, and the entire show. Phenomenal.
tbh LBB will always be the superior elle to me. she just exudes energy and puts her all into the role all the while having heart problems and belting the hell out of this song eight shows a week. i honestly really wish they would do a reunion with the original cast.
I have to give mad props (pun intended) to Laura. She sang that last part without taking a breath, and Laura has heart problems. After this song, she would run offstage a breath from an oxygen mask in order to recover from singing. Love u LBB!!!
Don't get me wrong, I love me some Laura Bell Bundy, but she was really straining a lot of the time she sung this and you could hear how tired her voice was. I do think that there were some really good ones in here, Haven Burton, Amy Lennox, Ashley Moniz, Emma Bateman, etc. Anyway, I definitely don't think she was the best at this song, but the best at the role overall👍
Christian Demetrius Kidd you also have to think about her health in general, she has a heart condition i believe. She probably gets exhausted because it can be strenuous....
0:36 Laura bell Bundy (1st place) 1:59 bailey Hanks(2nd best in my opinion) 2:21 Kate Rockwell cause she's one of my favorite musical Theater actors and she slayed the note like yess
Will forever love LBB, even out of character she truly perfectly embodies Elle. Also, I love Bailey, but I still think that it should have been her and Lauren as the final two. With those vocals to this day I don't know why Rhiannon made it so far in the competition.
Laura Bell Bundy will forever be the best Elle

Faye Brooks: I thought she did good! I thought her twist she put on the ending made her stand out
Kasia Hammarlaund: I was suprised! She did good, Up there with Laura, Haven, Laruen, Madelon and Susan
Gemma Sutton: She was ok, nothing that made me like her more than others
Sarah Daniel: Her run was good, I just think the audio was a little unfortunate, cant blame her
Sophie Isaacs: I thought she was good, A clean performance
Erin Sullivan: Nothing new we havent seen before
Emma Degerstedt: Same with Erin, nothing new
Leigh Emery: I cant decide, the raspiness kinda kills me, and that band
Maggie Taylor: Clean peformance, again, too nasally
Lucy Durack: If Britney Spears was Elle Woods, I picture this. I didnt like it
Taylor Tracey: Nothing we seen before, her sustained note was a little pitchy and she kinda gave up in the end
Jung Eun-Ji: She was ok
Barbara Obermiester: Shes up there with the favs! She had lots of power and energy
Juile Baird: There where moments I liked and stuff I didnt, Overall she was ok, but she had lots of energy and was a good actor, I can tell her breath support isnt the best (but hey, mines isnt either, so I understand)
Alyssa Gorgone: The fact they where perfoming in a mall with basic mics, I thought she did great!
Leanine Smith: She was so good! Those couple of tweaks made her really stand out and made the performance great
Lucie Jones: She was good, she was on time with the music.. Thats about it
Favs: LBB, Haven Lauren, Ashley, Madeolen Faye, Kasia, Susan, Barbra, Leanine
Hates: Lucy, Nikki, Rhiannon, Bailey
Julie though at 17:40 "THAan BEeeee FOOoorreeeeeeee"
Oo, Nikki.. Girl... You aren't supposed to sing that low hun.
Like, I understand it probably wasn't in her vocal range but.. It's Elle Woods. Those high notes are part of the reason why it's so good.
Crowley deserved better it's not even that high...
Crowley deserved better the funny thing is, she hit the note in the original key at the end or something close to it. They didn't need to lower the key of the song that low.
Ikr
her breathing technique is very bad, she breathes almost every word she speaks, she's more of a popstar than a theater actress for me
so many people who went on to be in kinky boots here omg
jordan k a lot of Lauren's!
I personally loved Lauren Zakrin and Laura Bell and basically all the Understudys! All the u/s literally killed it!
Susan McFadden is soooooo good! Probably the closest sounding voice compared to LBB.
except with the clarity and perfection on the ending note every time ;p
Bradley Vega They chose LBB worst recording for this video she rarely ever takes a breath on that last note. So LBB will always and forever be the best.
LBB has to take a breath. She has heart problems so she's required to take breaths.
Bradley Vega uhhhh, that wasn't even the best video of LBB. not to mention how hard that note is? imagine having to repeat that note every night for a really long time? it's gonna have an effect on her voice...
Her acting seems quite bad
Wow! I didn't even realise that Sheridan Smith could sing.... with so many of these though I was involuntarily raising my eyebrows hoping that the last note wouldn't be so flat. For me, Kaisa Hammerlund smashed it!
Marachinocherrypop you should see her in Cilla - a tv show about Cilla Black. She's sings all the songs and really nails it :)
I’m so proud of the Netherlands! The Dutch girls both killed it! So underrated
UK understudies are amazing!
Lol this was posted the opening night of my run as Elle in Salem, MA, USA.
I just realize that Karen from Mean Girls was once Elle Woods. She was pretty good. But LLB is the forever Elle.
laura lell bundy?
@@lauren7564 yes
Actually I liked the Lucie Jones rendition towards the end; the hottest was Barbara Obermeier from Vienna; the Blonde Wig Award, however, goes to the one from Manila - that was a sight to behold.
StevenLee I went to see that tour, but her understudy, Rebecca Stenhouser was on instead, and honestly, she’s up there with LBB for this song, and the entire show. Phenomenal.
Kerry Butler has played every single character in every broadway show
wait...Kerry Butler sang the Demo recording? I didn't know, THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!
I saw Amy Lennox in London and OMIGOD she was amazing! My personal fave😘
yaaaas Annaleigh as Elle!! 😍
I love all but especially Kerry, she always sounds so healthy and flawless
Ooo also Kate and Becky💚💚
cm1727 where's Kerry at in this?
OfficiallyNats she's first in the video (demo recording) and she killed it, especially considering it's higher than the official ending.
tbh LBB will always be the superior elle to me. she just exudes energy and puts her all into the role all the while having heart problems and belting the hell out of this song eight shows a week. i honestly really wish they would do a reunion with the original cast.
I have to give mad props (pun intended) to Laura. She sang that last part without taking a breath, and Laura has heart problems. After this song, she would run offstage a breath from an oxygen mask in order to recover from singing. Love u LBB!!!
Haven Burton and Becky Gulsvig were already my favorites and from this video I was also wowed by Susan McFadden and Barbara Obermeier
Laura Bundy's got it man. But the Vienna girl was surprisingly remarkable as well.
Nikki Gil was miscasted.
Ur so right
I'm 78% that was just a performance for tv not really a theater thing. Cause that was a disgrace of a performance.
Christian Demetrius Kidd she has a heart condition and actually needs to inhale oxygen between songs during live performances i believe
I think she was the best at the rest of the song, because so much of it relies on the acting, but I agree that others could do the note better.
It was her 3rd show that day so... I get it
0:36 Laura bell Bundy (1st place) 1:59 bailey Hanks(2nd best in my opinion) 2:21 Kate Rockwell cause she's one of my favorite musical Theater actors and she slayed the note like yess
Ikr! Kate is awesome! I got to see her as Glinda in Wicked last year!
Laura will always be the best
Love how all the rejects from “The Next Elle Woods” showed up lol
Am I the only one who thinks havens was LITERALLY HEAVENLY? Like omg
My favourites.....♥️
Susan McFadden, Leanne Smith, Sophie Isaacs, Nicola Brazil, Ashley Moniz, Becky gulsvig, Amy Lennox, Emma Bateman and Lucie Jones
I absolutely love Kerry and Annaleigh💗
3:35 good for Lauren--- you know if you’ve seen the search for Elle woods show (mtv) I haven’t finished it yet
Susan McFadden, you better sing!
im sorry but the us national tour actresses from before 2010 were basically singing out of their noses :/// they sounded so nasally aaaah
WHAT I LOVE KERRY HOW DID I NOT KNOW SHE DID THIS
edit: SAME WITH KATE ROCKWELL
I KNOW! QUEENS
Lauren Zakrin is actually my favorite Elle actress when she sings
Paulismyhero777 same🌸
Nah LBB honey
@@kidkrowtaylor.ৎ people can have different opinions i actually like laurens voice more than LBB.
@@journeyxgabi2208 I mean Lauren is nice just forgettable
I saw Lucie Jones live and she’s phenomenal. All respect and praise to the others, but Lucie Jones holds a special place in my heart
same!
My top 3 are definitely Laura Bell Bundy, Susan McFadden and Lucy Durack (Australian pride :3)
Will forever love LBB, even out of character she truly perfectly embodies Elle.
Also, I love Bailey, but I still think that it should have been her and Lauren as the final two. With those vocals to this day I don't know why Rhiannon made it so far in the competition.
Laura Bella Bundy is the queen of legally blonde
Broadway wise everyone was so much better than Bailey, seems the ensemble overpowered her.
tomgallowitz omg stop she is on a broadway stage I’m sure she could do better that you she has to be amazing to do a role like that and she is!
they were just statin' their opinion, you don't have t' be so rude.
delaney rose; its called saying
Kerry, Laura, Annaleigh, Sheridan ,Rhiannon ,Emma did good job on their solo So much better great job guys you made your song go fly so years ago.
I saw Kerry Butler in Beetlejuice in 2019
Am I the only one who didnt like Becky? Great voice but acting sucked
I appreciate the understudies being excited about getting to perform and really going for that last note.
Quite seriously what has Kerry Butler NOT done? She is my absolute idol.
Sheridan Smith is my all time favourite Elle 💕
I think she was able to get a perfect balance between Laura’s energy and singing pitch perfect.
I’m so glad they lowered it omg
8:13 that's so cute they had an Emmet and Elle scene and a new handshake 🥺🥺
