Best explanation of "over the top" I've seen, nice work. Would be great if you could do something similar with getting the angle of attack with irons into negative numbers. I feel like I'm sweeping too much and haven't taken a divot in months.
Matt, Thank you! This is the first video I've seen that has taken my over the top swing problem and provided a simple drill to correct the problem. Fantastic and so simple the "Stop and Drop" drill is the first time I have actually felt the motion I am supposed to have. Genius.
One of the best described fixes I have seen, started to watch this video at the drive range, and will take this out on the course next week, thanks Matt, excellent tip.
Went out today after a few weeks off due to injury. No expectations just using the drills and feeling in pre shot routine. And went from weak high slice to straight edging on a babey draw. Cheers Matt
This was exactly what I needed! I had been shanking about 1/2 of my shots. Back pain makes me subconsciously stop moving my lower body independent of upper body (because it hurts so much). This drill, although painful, fixed my shanks in a matter of minutes! I went from hitting 0 - 2 greens per round back to hitting 6 - 10 greens. Thanks!!!
Thanks Matt. Great feel this. Have battled with being 'over the top' for ages and finally feel like I am starting to crack it. Worked on this stop-and-drop drill on the range today and took it out onto the course... had my best ball-striking round ever. Great feeling. Thanks for the lesson
Will definitely be practicing this at the range, thanks Mat. Could you do a lesson on how to not slide under the ball when chipping from 60/70yrds please.
Love the videos I struggle with over the top all the time I get it from trying to kill the ball I will give this drill I try this weekend tha KS for the tips
I was told I come over the top every since I started playing. I never truly understood what people meant. Something subtle I noticed. When coming over the top… the club passes by the head. Sometimes on the take away and then again on the down swing. Eye opening for me. Don’t let the club cross my head. It’s made an instant improvement in my swing.
Cigar, red wine got it ! I believe this drill is exactly what I’ve been looking for I’m very excited to get out there and fix my over the top syndrome. Thank you.
Thanks Matt , this is me yes , also my other problems are over-swing and swaying on backswing , trail leg bending back not staying straight and also my head position lifting from address position , 🙏 no pressure , cheers Matt
Great video, something I need to implement in my game, I'm also struggling with bunker shots, however this may be due to our bunkers not having a lot of sand and also being really heavy, any tips would be great, keep up the good work.
Matt I really enjoy your videos so much. I’m 71 years old and really playing consistently for 2 years still having trouble with consistently bring a 100. My swing speed is about 75 to 80 mph. I think by biggest problem is my short game, within a 100 years and to many 3 putts. Again Thank you for your videos.
Great video and drills. I am currently struggling with those in between lengths. Seem to always hit short when attempting a 'chippy' iron or a 3/4 iron into a green.
Matt, this video has helped me out so much. I’ve been coming over the top for about 2 years. I could see it in videos I took of my swing and during practice swings I would feel like I was dropping and not coming over the top but couldn’t translate it to hitting a ball. This video has helped me get back on plane and helped me not over swing as well. Great content.
Thanks Matt, I've been struggling with this for a while but I'm getting there with shallowing the downswing. The other thing I struggle with is keeping a straight lead arm at the top. Tend to stray across the line and lose width. Coaching has been to try to swing 3/4's but it just feels like there is no power stored. Any hints and tips on this one?
This is elite content. You wasted zero time getting to the point and on top of that, the demonstration’s/explanation’s, I thought, were executed to a tee. Appreciate ya!
Great video. I’ve been working on this a lot at the moment but I find that I keep fatting most of my shots when using anything lower than a 7i. Any ideas how to eliminate that one?
Matt; first time viewing. Like your suggestions. Ive avoided dropping down and coming from the inside because I hit lots of hooks. Maybe I thinking about this wrong? Coming more from the inside is the solution and not the reason for a hook? Let me know. Mark
Hi Matt, I feel that I get my right shoulder ahead of the club, then my hands try to sort it out, leading a crap strike, but if I keep that shoulder behind me, I hit it well. It's similar to your tip, but I like the explanation ❤
I can get the club to drop in the slot but for some reason now the clubface is open and I am experiencing these huge pushes and push fades. Maybe I need to strengthen the grip? Roll wrists over sooner?
hello matt great tips ❤ I'm a disabled golfer I have cerebral palsy in my arms and legs I have a really short back swing is there anything I can try to fix this?
I am in the process of trying to keep my right hand out of the swing by trying to keep the right hand grip pressure so light it just rides along.. when it does get involved I roll the wrist and jerk the shots left.
Had my 1st round yesterday in a few years. My 1st driver on the 1st tee was bang down the middle of the fairway . the 1st time I'd ever used a driver on a course, always used irons. I was very inconsistent with it though as expected, mainly huge slices over the 18 holes, but 3 or 4 straight down the middle maybe 200 or so, yards. Loved the feeling of getting back out there. Score card wasn't great, to be honest. Par 71 and I did 115 with 2 pars, 1 on a 3 and 1 on a 5, Need a bit of practice 😂
I have been struggling with this for about 2 years. I have tried to correct it but it feels as tho I’m goner hit the ball 90’ to the right and eventually go back to my old ways. So I shall give this feeling ago and see what happens if not any chance of a lesson 😊
I was driving well but now am hitting everything to the left. it started all of a sudden and have loads of swing thoughts and can't get rid of them. I was a straight (but fairly short) hitter off the tee but once I tried to gain distance (ball at my left heel, tilt my body slightly and hit up on the ball) I find everything is pulling left. Very frustrating so I've started using my hybrid off the tee which is going about 165 yards but straight. I want to get back to the driver again but I have no confidence. Any advice ??
I'm struggling to adapting my swing to a ball position more centered in the stance. When I learned to golf it was all from the front heel. This has been a problem recently when I bought some new clubs. Now I'm able to play draw, fade, hook and slice pretty much at will but the strikes are really inconsitent. It seems to me that the technique I learned is out of date. However when I do find middle it's all great shots. The old technique I'm refering to is Arnold palmer/Ben hogan-esque setup. It's a topic not talked about that much on youtube.
Alright Matt here's one for you I'm naturally left handed but play right handed. Had a bad slice so developed a strong grip. Recently had a custom fit and was hitting a lovely baby fade but it's turned into a duck hook/pull and been given a small lesson and have to open the club face to one o'clock and take my normal grip to get it back to square. Any help would be appreciated many thanks in advance. Cheers Steven
I'm curious ... If a right handed golfer comes over the top out to in .. is that not what a left hander does in his swing in to out ?? .. sounds to me that a right hander has a left hander swing path ..
I consistently hit my 4 iron good the. Bad then good. It is a love hate relationship. Sometimes I chosen hybrid rather than a 4 even though I know 4 is what I should play
Struggling with a bad back, stay with me here, it is caused by not getting through the swing and I end up playing off the back foot, all my weight is on the back foot not the front at impact. I know this shot causes me back pain, I don’t do it on every shot, but when I do I end up hitting the ball very ‘thin’ so quite often it is a complete ‘top’ that goes nowhere or at best gets 12 feet of the ground and then has loads of top spin. The big problem is that bad swing hurts my back more and I seem to be more prone to make that swing when my back is hurting…
I fear this is me. My whole body shifts left. I can top the ball and the ball will bury in the ground. I don’t hang back I get to far ahead. Will this help with that? As if I don’t top it I can hit left and low, high right and then shots that just drop out the air like it’s a broken ball
Best explanation of "over the top" I've seen, nice work. Would be great if you could do something similar with getting the angle of attack with irons into negative numbers. I feel like I'm sweeping too much and haven't taken a divot in months.
Excellent advise … u hit the nail on the head !!!😂
I was one of the folks who requested this lesson, so thanks so much! Great tips and I can't wait to try them on the range and the course.
Awesome video!! One of the best drills/lessons ever. Also, it's great to have something to take to the course!!
Clear steps and helpful tips. I’m hopping to see improvements in my own swing after following these advice.
Thanks to Matt for sharing this..
Took this on the course yesterday Matt, and shot my best round of the year, massive thank you 👍
This is exactly what I'm struggling with. Great tips Matt, I can't wait to get to the range to try them and see if it makes a difference
Matt,
Thank you! This is the first video I've seen that has taken my over the top swing problem and provided a simple drill to correct the problem. Fantastic and so simple the "Stop and Drop" drill is the first time I have actually felt the motion I am supposed to have. Genius.
Love the table top analogy with the practice swing....this triggered an instant understanding in my minds eye. Thanks. Will take to the range later
That stop and drop work like a dream thank you matt saved my driver.
One of the best described fixes I have seen, started to watch this video at the drive range, and will take this out on the course next week, thanks Matt, excellent tip.
Best Driver tip on UA-cam...
Looks great Matt. Can't wait to try this next time I'm out.
what a fantastic drill to practice down the range. thanks Matt
Went out today after a few weeks off due to injury. No expectations just using the drills and feeling in pre shot routine. And went from weak high slice to straight edging on a babey draw. Cheers Matt

Thanks Matt I’ll try this at the range.
I kind of look like I’m casting and coming across the ball most of the time.
Brilliant! Sometimes I get a little quick on the down swing which produces that over the top some time. This is so good
Thanks Matt. Great feel this. Have battled with being 'over the top' for ages and finally feel like I am starting to crack it. Worked on this stop-and-drop drill on the range today and took it out onto the course... had my best ball-striking round ever. Great feeling. Thanks for the lesson
Super tips as always Matt… I’m playing all weekend so will give it a bash.. Cheers
Looks good, so I will give it a try next time I am on the range. Thanks
I like the over the top lesson very simple swing change to fix it. Thanks
Thank for the video. For you what could cause back pain while back swinging?
Yes this is what i'm struggling with! i will definitely use this soon as the weather clears up.
Cant wait to try this drill. Thanks
Very interest tips. If it wasn't midnight I'd try it outside in my net. Roll on tomorrow to give them a go! Thanks.
Thank you Matt , really helped.
Best explanation of over the top I've seen 👍
Will definitely be practicing this at the range, thanks Mat.
Could you do a lesson on how to not slide under the ball when chipping from 60/70yrds please.
Love the videos I struggle with over the top all the time I get it from trying to kill the ball I will give this drill I try this weekend tha KS for the tips
This is good stuff! Thank you, I'll try it out tomrrow on the range! 🙏👍
cant wait to try it ...thanks Matt

Cheers mate will give that drill a go.
Great coach.
Excellent golf tip Matt! I’m 6’6” tall so I’m always coming over the top so I’m going to the driving range to practice your awesome golf tips! Cheers!
Matt please don't think I am blowing smoke up your arris but that is the best teaching vid I have seen on the tinternet.....
Great vid can't wait to try this out!
Great advice Matt, that i need to work at. Any advice at those 3 to 5 foot putts that dont seem to go in.
That baseball comment makes perfect sense they wouldn’t hit down on it!!!!
great video
Thanks Matt, this has opened my eyes to how I can make some progress! 😁
I'm also struggling recently with ball below the feet lies. Especially in bunkers where it seems to produce a horrible shanky slice!
Cigar, red wine got it ! I believe this drill is exactly what I’ve been looking for I’m very excited to get out there and fix my over the top syndrome. Thank you.
Great video.
Great Lesson, Thanks!
Great tip. I like the stop and drop thought!
Thanks Matt , this is me yes , also my other problems are over-swing and swaying on backswing , trail leg bending back not staying straight and also my head position lifting from address position , 🙏 no pressure , cheers Matt
Great video! What about reducing spin with driver?
Great video, something I need to implement in my game, I'm also struggling with bunker shots, however this may be due to our bunkers not having a lot of sand and also being really heavy, any tips would be great, keep up the good work.
Love this Matt. I often do this with my irons!
This doesn't make you hit your iron shots fat?
Matt I really enjoy your videos so much. I’m 71 years old and really playing consistently for 2 years still having trouble with consistently bring a 100. My swing speed is about 75 to 80 mph. I think by biggest problem is my short game, within a 100 years and to many 3 putts.
Again Thank you for your videos.
Great video this! Can’t wait to put it into practice on the range 🤙🏽
It works. Might take up to 6 months however to incorporate and takes lotsa practice.
Great video and drills. I am currently struggling with those in between lengths. Seem to always hit short when attempting a 'chippy' iron or a 3/4 iron into a green.

Rubbish… you would’ve had to implement this video at the range within 2 hours of its release. I don’t believe you.
@@-TheDevilsAdvocate you’re entitled to your opinion 👍
Impeccable timing Matt, this is something I'm currently working on with my local PGA pro. Also, have you benched the Mizuno?
Thanks Matt, I've been struggling with this for a while but I'm getting there with shallowing the downswing. The other thing I struggle with is keeping a straight lead arm at the top. This worked for me today 🎉

i will try this tomorrow and let you know thanks
Great video. I’ve been working on this a lot at the moment but I find that I keep fatting most of my shots when using anything lower than a 7i. Any ideas how to eliminate that one?
Great video Matt
Hi Matt, great video! Can you give advice how to cure too much backswing?
Great video.. Really struggle to read putts so a video on that would be great
Helpful!
Great tip!
I need your tips on how to stop thinning chip shots - Im 17 HCP but thin chips let me down - great vid btw
Thanks!
Yeah, this is exactly my problem. Just had a lesson with my local pro and trying to fix it.
Matt; first time viewing. Like your suggestions. Ive avoided dropping down and coming from the inside because I hit lots of hooks. Maybe I thinking about this wrong? Coming more from the inside is the solution and not the reason for a hook? Let me know.

hello matt great tips ❤ I'm a disabled golfer I have cerebral palsy in my arms and legs I have a really short back swing is there anything I can try to fix this?
I would like to see a video on how the body moves before the downswing.. What it takes to position the body to create the perfect rhythm in a swing??
I am in the process of trying to keep my right hand out of the swing by trying to keep the right hand grip pressure so light it just rides along.. when it does get involved I roll the wrist and jerk the shots left.

Any advice for a golfer that hits driver great but irons poorly one day but next time I hit irons good and driver is lousy
Hi Matt, hip turn feeling / drills please
I have been struggling with this for about 2 years. I have tried to correct it but it feels as tho I’m goner hit the ball 90’ to the right and eventually go back to my old ways.
So I shall give this feeling ago and see what happens if not any chance of a lesson 😊
At the range now using this

I want it hit the ball crisp how to position of the golf ball for the irons.
I have problems with pulls left. It goes the right distance, just straight right. Mainly with short irons
I'm curious ... If a right handed golfer comes over the top out to in .. is that not what a left hander does in his swing in to out ?? .. sounds to me that a right hander has a left hander swing path ..
Easy! 😊😂
Matt, i know your brother Air. Good lad 👍
I consistently hit my 4 iron good the. Bad then good. It is a love hate relationship. Sometimes I chosen hybrid rather than a 4 even though I know 4 is what I should play
I've been struggling with fatting the shit out of my driver lately because it's been so so steep! Thank you! Can't wait to try this!
Hi Matt, what about those of us that are doing this too much. Sort out my hooky action please. Need more high right shoulder and no release please!
Struggling with a bad back, stay with me here, it is caused by not getting through the swing and I end up playing off the back foot, all my weight is on the back foot not the front at impact. How do you fix an over the top girlfriend? "Why didn't you answer the phone last night, who does that underwear belong to" etc..
Weird
Black bag and a canal
You need to watch Fred Couples's swing and he has a flying elbow just like Jack Nicklaus
I fear this is me. My whole body shifts left. I can top the ball and the ball will bury in the ground. I don’t hang back I get to far ahead. Will this help with that? As if I don’t top it I can hit left and low, high right and then shots that just drop out the air like it’s a broken ball
When I do this I struggle to shift my weight onto my left side and feel like my weight is all on the right.
The famous "chicken wing"!
Excellent 😊
I smash my driver, but struggle terribly with leaky irons. Pull fade has become my shot because my shoulders can’t wait for my hands to drop.
