Hearing a 917 at speed should be a bucket list item for every Porsche person I sat in the bleachers at Laguna Seca at Rennsport V and was mesmerized. And they were Only doing about 140 mph
Amazing sights and sounds. I just cranked this up on a great sound system, and it transported me to my favorite place in the world: anywhere I'm attending a race. Thank you for creating this!
Useless fact nobody asked for: this turbocharged rocket ship is actually the _second_ model to be called the Porsche 917/10. The original 917/10 had much simpler bodywork and a naturally aspirated engine. It looked like a later 908/3 with fins on the tail and a wedge for a nose. It was moderately successful, placing 4th overall in the 1971 Can-Am standings, sponsored by STP and both prepped and driven by Jo Siffert. The monstrosity we see above is a revision of that car. Same 5.0L engine, more extreme bodywork, and a couple of Comically Large Turbochargers™.
Great cars. I like the 10s more than the 30. 60 lb. Chassis. 1100 hp. Twitchy on the throttle.. Very hard to drive fast, but George managed just fine. When the competitions 800 hp. wasn't enough. Can Am was amazing!
Horse power does not matter the machine which delivers it does! 1000hp+ in a Porsche 917/10 is not in the same world as a Veyron. Would take older sport car any day. ^__-
Not sure if I’ve seen that one, I always remember the L+M and the gorgeous blue and yellow Donahue/Sunoco car. Can-Am style cars were the wildest thing to hit track.
Back when racing was all about increasing the displacement and total no of cylinders and also turbocharging. Now motorsports is all about turning race cara into priuses
Swing and a miss. It absolutely is still a Flat-12; what the conjoined rod journals mean is that it is not a _Boxer_ -12. A "180-degree V12" is still architecturally flat, and does not have any V shape at all. Flat-12 yes, Boxer-12 no.
Can Am was such a wild time for motorsports. Love to see these old machines in action
I did. One of the few advantages of being old. That and 60’s rock.

Can-Am was and still is the most creative racing series ever
The BPR Global GT Series was a great era too! Nothing since then though... T__T
Can Am engines were just top level savagery.
The quickest car on the planet back then, an absolute beast of a machine! Balls of steel the one who drove them
Still is bro it’s 1580 hp
@Jay-ii3ix not the quickest car on the planet but fast enough to race against sport prototypes nowdays
The 917/30 was the real weapon
'Intimidating' just proved to be euphemistic. This thing at the limit, feet in its nose, sizzling your back and deafening loud. 😮

Can Am monsters like,like,like
Love how the bump in the front splitter is for the driver's feet 😂

Can Am is criminally underrated 😏
0:07 *from left to right* in this scene EVERYTHING is PERFECT, lol =))))

Official Lexan Body Shell for 1980s R/C nitro cars. Everyone used it for best cooling and aerodynamics effects.
Had the hot wheels version, sounded exactly the same🏁
What a great racing car from porsche😊

Who had the L&M slot car version of this car ?
I had the A/FX version. RC livery.
Not sure if I’ve seen that one, I always remember the L+M and the gorgeous blue and yellow Donahue/Sunoco car. Can-Am style cars were the wildest thing to hit track.
I've got two at the moment. They handled well on the slot track.
CanAm was the best! Run what'cha brung!
Mark Donohue made it the real beast that it is if you can believe; "The Racer's Edge".
The vintage Can AM races are usually dominated by those dam Shadows big block v-8
Bruce Canepa car?
Beautiful car with an amazing growl......... bite as bad as it's bark!!!
Como se fosse um kart grande com 1100HPs 😮...essas merdas não eram pra amadores😂

Yeah you tell them clouds!
😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩
It's a 180 degree V-12, not a flat 12. The opposing piston rods share a crank journal.
