You should’ve educated the woman about service dog “certificates”, so that it doesn’t happen to anyone else that doesn’t have the email... Anyway, just found your channel and loved the video💕
Henry is a beautiful dog. You have to remember some people are just afraid of dogs in general. It may not have anything to do with his breed, and some people are kind of shocked to see a dog where there aren't supposed to be any. Not everyone knows this but real service dogs aren't aggressive for any reason. There are people who say their dog is a service dog yet he barks or growls at people. Some do that to take their pets with them, but the dog(s) aren't even properly trained to be obedient. That's why some countries have certification for service dogs. I think we should too. I was watching one video where the guy went on a website and ordered a (certificate) for his (service dog.) He was more upset that his girlfriend had gotten the dog's name wrong than the fact that he had just broken a Federal law! Loved the video as I don't have the money to travel anywhere.
I am hoping to go on a cruise with my service dog in the next year. I’ve heard it is easier to get the paperwork for Canada and Mexico versus some of the other countries. I would prefer to go somewhere warm since I already live in an environment that is very much like Alaska. It definitely drives up my anxiety just thinking about getting prepared for a cruise with my girl!
Jessica you are to be congratulated for the work you have put into maintaining Henry's training. He has the perfect temperament for a service dog and he is relaxed in all situations - bless him - and his grin is gorgeous. Regarding toiletting - try him with the baby blankets used in public change areas. They are disposable and can be placed on the floor of any toilet or bathroom that you use and then folded and wrapped in a baggie and popped in a bin.
This is extremely informative! I've had the opportunity to go on many cruises and I've often wondered how exactly the cruise would accommodate a team. Thank you!
Henry's reaction to the seaplane taking off was priceless! Out of curiosity, did you have any trouble getting him accustomed to flying, or was he a natural?
I'm very impressed with Henry's behavior. I have a self-trained Bouvier, Ninja who helps me with my bad knee and CHF/stroke recovery symptoms. He has flown w no trouble but I'd love to bring him on an upcoming cruise except it's 119 days long and stops in many countries where feral dogs and wildlife are present and I worry about disease and problems with the locals in places like India, Egypt and Australia where the quarantine rules are strict. I have a place for him if I don't bring him but I'll sure miss him if I don't bring him. Viking provides a "sandbox" like the one you used you can put on your balcony or room.
One time I was with my dog in a dog friendly store (he isn’t a service dog, simply just a very well trained dog) He wears a vest because he is a therapy dog and I take him into dog friendly places to get him used to people and public. The people behind me apparently didn’t read his vest which clearly says “therapy dog” They though he was a service dog and muttered to themselves. “Why does that girl have a service dog she looks fine, she’s not in a wheelchair” “maybe for emotional support” There are so many things wrong with those 2 sentences. I’m not gonna even name them, they speak for themselves but I got upset because what if I was disabled and what if he was a service dog. People really need to be educated on service dogs, therapy dogs and ESAS.
TYSM for posting this,. I don't have confidence going a lot of places with my SD, mainly because of family shaming me. I had no idea that you could go on a cruise.
So very impressed by Henry! You should be so proud of the work you have done with your boy. Also, the part were he’s off duty running around made my heart happy! I just love y’all! 💕 I did have a question though.. What brand is the leash you use? I am wanting a red OTS leash.
Thank you for this video I really enjoyed it. I hope you had a wonderful time on your Vacation/Cruise 😊 I found your video because I was looking for specific information on traveling with a service dog on a cruise ship and how they handle the dog being able to go potty. Did they set up that little potty area up specifically for you or is that something the ship always has? Henry is so handsome by the way 😍 I also found it incredibly kind and compassionate of the Cruise line to include that message in their flyer about having a service animal on board and educating their guests on how to behave in regards to a service animal being present. The way they made sure to accommodate you and Henry is wonderful and I applaud them for this. Thank you for the wonderful video 😊
There was an accessibility link on their main site, I was required to call them a minimum of 2 weeks prior to sailing. They emailed me documents, requirements and we spoke about my needs via email.
Omg.. i was just talking about taking a cruise.. I have a 9 month old service Dog/SDiT and was wondering about the bathroom situation lol... thax for this video
Usually if the cruise line is let known ahead of time that your going to have your SD or SDit with you then they'll know and can provide that for you, you just have to call them and let them know ahead of time that your going to have your SD or SDit on the cruise with you
I'm glad you got to stop in Victoria!! That's where I live, and it's such a beautiful city. Also, I'm happy that you were well versed in the Canadian service dog laws before coming here, as they are quite different from the ones in the US regarding certification. I've seen some people become quite rude and defensive when they are asked for certification while visiting BC, but it is their responsibility to know the laws beforehand.
I have been taking Requip for restless legs for 15 years, and it has. Helped me tremendously. I also get very anemic and get infusions of iron. Lack f iron also causes the restless leg. I hope this helps you.
I can't believe it took me this long to find your channel. I too have a SDiT and I am so anxious of when the time comes to take him on a plane, but your video gives me hope that its not that bad...haha
I was supposed to go on a cruise with my service dog at the end of the month but they keep saying that they NEEDED paperwork so I had to cancel because even though I kept explaining to them that there’s no such thing they insisted that there was and that they needed it for her to go
When I went on a cruise we had this safety briefing thing for emergencies so we'd know what to do. I wasn't on Norwegian but I wondered if you went through that and how it was with Henry
I’m in Canada (Ontario) and there’s no license for service animals here but you must have a doctors note stating that you need the animal to help your disability(s)
It's infuriating when people ask for a certification for a service dog. There's NO SUCH THING. It's scammers that do "service dog certifications" it's horrible.
I have two questions regarding documentation. First is, does the rabies tag count when proving current vaccination? Papers are hard for me to keep on my person because they get ruined so easily and stuff like that, and I always have my SD wearing her rabies tag anyway. Second question was, what is a “health certificate” and how do I get one? Obviously it has to come from a vet but does it involve doing a lot of expensive testing? My dog isn’t for mobility, she’s too small compared to me, so I went without seeing a veterinary orthopedic surgeon for joint testing as it’s way outside of my budget (I have no income for myself and have to rely on others to help me pay for vets and food, and nobody’s made of money...) and I’m not needing her to be peak joint health for mobility tasking anyway (I know healthy joints are still needed but hers are definitely good enough for just walking by my side through stores). I don’t currently have plans to travel (again no income lol) but if I ever did I want to know exactly what I need. If I’m unprepared for something it throws my mental health WAY off which also affects my physical health, so I make it a habit to always if anything be overprepared so that any situation that gets thrown my way I can be ready for.
Not sure if you still needed answers, but you definitely need to have the rabies certificate from the vet for proof of rabies vaccine. You can't actually tell any information from the tag (it could be years out of date and no one would know), so you always need to have the updated paperwork. If you can't keep track of the papers, I suggest uploading it to Google Drive so that you can access it on a phone or computer literally anywhere. Then whenever you need a physical copy for travel or something, you can just print one off, but will always have a backup online. Health certificate could be two things. I believe when traveling in country you can probably just get an "all clear" from the vet saying your pet is in good health and is updated on all vaccines. I don't think it requires any special tests, just a general exam. If you're traveling out of country, there is an International Health Certificate that you can ask your vet about. It would probably be more expensive, but I'm not sure. Depending on mode of travel and company you're using, they may require different things so always check the company's requirements!
Lynxie Hey there 👋 a health certificate is obtained by your veterinarian. It’s basically like a once over/basic check up to make sure your dog is up to date on rabies vaccination and generally in good health. Kinda like how people see the doctor for an annual well visit or physical. They are sometimes required for travel, boarding, activities where there may be a lot of other dogs around to keep everyone healthy (nobody has time for a classic case of the kennel cough because that one guy decided to bring Fido out when he shouldn’t) and the most popular reason to need a health certificate is when a dog is being re-homed/adopted out to a new family or sold by a breeder. Legally, you can not charge anyone an adoption/re-homing fee unless you obtain one. Registered 501c3 animals rescues are the exception to this rule as they are considered a charity and exempt from needing to provide one. Health certificates are only valid for 30 days, must be signed and conducted by a licensed veterinarian, and cost anywhere from $25-$200 depending on where you go to get it. Typically, if you are an established, regular patient at your vets office, it shouldn’t cost you an arm and a leg. The reason for it being so costly at times is because the doctor is taking a gamble by signing this, he/she can be held liable if the dog is in face NOT healthy (within reason) and this can possibly open them up to law suits and possibly even tarnish their integrity. So with that being said, if the doctor knows your dog and feels confident that the pup in optimal health, it can be less of a cost to you. When scheduling the appointment, I suggest you tell them that you need the health certificate for travel (as opposed to you selling the dog). You don’t have to, but it seems to cost less in most cases. Side note, I keep my doctors note “prescribing me my service dog”, emergency contact #s and my basic/need to know medical info Incase something happens to me, my dog, or god forbid we are ever separated in crisis safe in a ziplock bag inside her vest zipper pocket. To balance it out, I carry ADA cards in the other side to educate the public. I know I don’t need to, but it makes me feel better knowing it’s all in there. Just an idea for you for when you might be carrying a health certificate, just remember to use a ziplock to make it water proof😉
The USDA Health Certificate info... www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/pet-travel/pet-travel-info-and-guidance-document/steps-to-obtain-intl-health-certificate What tests are needed will depend on what country you are going into (for Canada, I think you just need vacs, which you should be up to date on anyway).
The first time I did pa with hazel a little boy looked at her and screamed “it’s a big wolf. It’s going to bite me”. Like Hazel (@service.dog.hazel.grace on insta) is the sweetest dog ever. Everyone who sees her jumps back. We are the only sd team in my area
You know how little kids always point and go "Mom! A doggie!" (usually you just ignore it), well I had one time where someone pointed and said "Mom! A Coyote!" (and I cracked up laughing). :)
In almost all other countries other than US, service animals are certified usually to Assistance Dogs International Standards or the Guide Dog equivalent.
Rabies and Health Certificates are the only legal certificates for a service dog, its basically showing they had their rabies shot for the year and their healthy enough to go on the cruise
I am legally blind, and have a guide dog. I just want to say I love the relationship you have with your service dog. Very important to have.
Henry’s head tilt as the little plane takes off ❤️

Out of curiosity, did you have any trouble getting him accustomed to flying, or was he a natural?
Henry is so handsome!! I can’t wait for you to post more because i love these kinds of videos!
i am enjoying this so much, ty for sharing your trip with us and Henry was such a good boy!!!
I'm very impressed with Henry's behavior. I have a self-trained Bouvier, Ninja who helps me with my bad knee and CHF/stroke recovery symptoms. I've been cruising for 10 years and only ever seen a service dog on one of them. 4 service dogs at the same time? Wow!

youre so confident vlogging! i never like to vlog in public haha
TYSM for posting this,. I don't have confidence going a lot of places with my SD, mainly because of family shaming me. I had no idea that you could go on a cruise.
Great to see you are continually working with him and you were able to cruise with him! I look forward to cruising with my SD one day!
So very impressed by Henry! You should be so proud of the work you have done with your boy. Also, the part were he’s off duty running around made my heart happy! I just love y’all! 💕
I did have a question though.. What brand is the leash you use? I am wanting a red OTS leash.
Ruffwear Flat Out leash :)))
@@JessicaPaulsen Yours is so red! We accidentally ordered the half red half orange leash. Oops
Thank you for this video I really enjoyed it. I hope you had a wonderful time on your Vacation/Cruise 😊

What did they need from you before they sent the email saying your service dog was cleared?
There was an accessibility link on their main site, I was required to call them a minimum of 2 weeks prior to sailing. They emailed me documents, requirements and we spoke about my needs via email.

I love how henry reacted to the room

Such a sweet video! It looks like Henry did amazing, and I’m glad y’all had fun! :)
Great video! Great channel! Keep up the good work!
I can't believe it took me this long to find your channel. I too have a SDiT and I am so anxious of when the time comes to take him on a plane, but your video gives me hope that its not that bad...haha
It's so nice to hear about other people's experiences with their dogs. Great job!
BC has a provincial license for all service dogs :) not all provinces have them, I'm hoping that changes soon! So many face SD and pets in stores
My service dogs name is Henry he is a German Shepard
*Shepherd
Mine is a chocolate labrador, and Henry seems to have the same exact personality!
I was supposed to go on a cruise with my service dog at the end of the month but they keep saying that they NEEDED paperwork so I had to cancel because even though I kept explaining to them that there’s no such thing they insisted that there was and that they needed it for her to go
Hi! I'm new to this channel! I have a service dog prospect who will start training in 6 months. I love this channel so much!!!
Was there a substantial difference in the SD laws at the different ports you visited? Henry is adorable!
When I went on a cruise we had this safety briefing thing for emergencies so we'd know what to do. I wasn't on Norwegian but I wondered if you went through that and how it was with Henry
I went on that same cruise to Alaska and B.C Canada. It was so great
It's the quinine in the tonic water that helps your legs.
Can I use his vest design for a vest I'm getting? I love Henry's vest so much
I’m just now seeing this. I was on a Norwegian Cruise to Alaska during their last week last year as well! But I went in the pearl instead of the bliss
Thank you for the video and good job Henry!
You were in Victoria? Ahhhhhh, I live in Vancouver, BC🤪 So close yet so far
and fyi, i love your wedding ring, so pretty!!!
Can I have a medical alert dog for my anxiety??
Falling on my face is something i would do. I fell up stair in front of people before.
This is amazinggg
Elsie my service dog goes on Royal Caribbean & put it in their daily paper. We have had employees scared of my girl.
Don’t know if I’ve even said it but I love that vest. And your makeup is 11/10. Gorgeous.
I’m in Canada (Ontario) and there’s no license for service animals here but you must have a doctors note stating that you need the animal to help your disability(s)
What camera, editing software and computer do you use?
How is the place for him to go potty? Viking said I could bring my 120 boy but the sandbox they offer is way too small.
It's infuriating when people ask for a certification for a service dog. There's NO SUCH THING. It's scammers that do "service dog certifications" it's horrible.
How did you exercise him on the cruise?, if you don’t mind me asking.
Where’d you get Henry from?
Great! 😄

Where did you get the leash? :)
Found it in another video of you: ruffwear!
Ok I’ll send spoons (jk) 😂😂😂😂😂
Then some people are just afraid of dogs, even in America lol.
Where did you get his vest?
PatienceAndLove143 on Etsy :D

Your doing all the talking why isn't the guy with you saying anything
There is no such thing as a certificate.
Denene Neufeld depends on the country
Denene Neufeld not in the USA, but in other countries yes. You have to remember a cruise line is dealing with passengers from many countries.
