✨ ABOUT ME
My name is Duncan and I am a Maths Graduate in Scotland with a passion for maths and relaxation! I am an ASMR UA-camr and plan to go on to teach maths at high school level in the coming years. I am very enthusiastic about teaching and to help me improve and get practice before entering the world of work I have created this channel to help people learn about mathematics at all levels all whilst having a good night's sleep.

Interesting to see an overwhelming amount of comments regarding this question as "easy". I personally find it about reasonable for the standard of maths in Scotland. You have to remember particular areas of maths is taught differently around the world!
Hi if you see this could you make a video on angles and protractors because I’m struggling with it in school
In Romania this question could be at an exam at the admission for highschool (the kid is around 14y old) and a lot of them would get it right
In Romania you’re also incredibly poor
@@MynameisTMP-wtf does that have to do with what he said?
@@walidelbouhssaini6999 we’re both talking about Romania that’s the relevance pal
@@walidelbouhssaini6999 cuz he can't still solve basic algebra today lmao
How has this question caused a petition? This is literally a standard easy gcse question that is only about 3 marks😂
I have to be honest, I’m quite surprised that this is the question that caused a petition. I’ve looked at Scottish papers in the past and I feel like there have been much harder problems than this. The trickiest questions tend to be the ones which test more than one skill but this question was only using one maths technique. I’ve looked at the specification and unless it’s been updated, this is actually explicitly mentioned on there. I think there are worse questions that examiners have set, not undermining this one though. I hope I haven’t made anyone feel bad.
Btw as someone from Scotland N5 isnt actually sat by 16 -17 year olds typically, its more likely to be 15 year olds, i know its not much of a difference but it does count as a reason why students struggled
Your maths ASMR videos are perfect for me to sleep to, because I have no idea what you’re talking about so I don’t get distracted by recognisable words 😂
Dido you motivate me to do better in math man keep doin ur thing 💪
I think looking at the 2015 Higher optimisation question would be quite iconic haha
I cant remember which year, but back in my final year of Secondary education, 6th year, i resat higher maths due to failing it the previous year. I studied harder, 100percented most of the unit tests and in the final exam? The test was deemed so difficult the pass-mark was lowered from 50percent down to THIRTY FIVE. i had scored 39, over half the exam were units we hadnt been taught (In the first couple months of 6th year i had began to learn Advanced-higher, THAT wasnt as difficult_
I cant believe this cause a petition. I solved it while you were taking the notes lol
This was actually one of the easier questions on the paper, but all of them seemed ridiculously easy? I am American so I took the SAT at 16 and I remember the math being more challenging than this.
In the Netherlands we learned this at about 15-16 years old. You could also just use logic if you’ve learnt Pythagoras theorem. First do one diagonal and then that diagonal with the remaining side
Is this a joke? How is a grade 4 pythagros question seen as this difficult?
my thoughts exactly
Seriously. And this question doesn't even need a calculator, given that the final square root is a trivial one
@@TheDarkSide11891 In Bavaria for the Abitur, this type of question could be asked in the part where you aren't allowed to use a calculator, but most points will be on the "explain your solution part" where you need to explain what you are doing and why it works (yes, you need to explain how and why the Pythagoras theorem works in 3 dimensions).
And even then it wouldn't be considered one of the harder questions.
I am actually shocked that this question caused such outrage. It’s something I learnt when I was roughly 13-14.
Heya, would you consider doing a video explaining the difference between pointwise and uniform convergence?
Saturday, 4th may for me! One day off the when the paper was done
I think it would be cool if you taught the in depth trig you mentioned in your previous trig video, i’d love that
as a student in Singapore, i feel like this question isn't hard, i managed to work it out without any paper just by applying pythagoras' theorem. we learnt this at 14 yrs old. i think this question just requires the Scottish students to think more critically in a three dimensional plane but overall it is not hard.
Completely agree as soon as I saw the question I was wondering how on earth this got to being on a petition for “being too hard”
New trigger word unlocked: petition
Hey Dido, I have a question, can you do the are of a pentagon as I saw it and my brain became mush
Was the “justified popcorn” question harder? This is literally something you could teach a 7 year old in an hour?
Bro this is so easy and I’m recently just got out of school for summer break. I’m in 7th grade I legit did it with my phone calculator and got it right
Im fine with you saying "maths" instead of math because i find it more tingly lol
Wait i imagine people didn’t get it cause they weren’t reached “pythagora in 3 dimension” but if they got the lessons it’s fairly trivial id say
this cant have caused a petition, ive got my maths exam tomorrow and theres been way harder questions than this in all the past papers
I wish all the best with it! I assume you’re from Scotland given you said it’s tomorrow? Any last-minute topics you need help with? lol
It’s literally not difficult at all (a little bit of Pythagoras and u’re done). They didn’t even need complex knowledge of formulas
Can you go over sin cos and tan?
As a thirteen year old.. I just answered this in 30 seconds.. I could have when I was 9 (I taught myself early).. IT'S BASIC PYTHAGORAS!! HUH?!?!
I hate math, I'm jealous of other people's ability to not fall asleep when someone talks about math
@@Ihatetheentirehumanraceohh you are so unique!!
A more fun version of this question can be:
If the umbrella is held at point M then at what height from base will the umbrella perfectly fit.
OR
At what length(dioganally) from opposite corner will it perfectly fit when held from P.
OR
Assuming displacement from both points P and M what are the first distances(from N/Opposite base corner) at which the umbrella will perfectly fit.
These ideas are great! Have you written questions in the past or something because these sound pretty much professional? haha
@@Harvey1211 Thanks for the compliment.
I am learning cs, and half of the problem solving is defining problems well, so that's probably why they sound professional.
@@fzlagges5849 CS meaning Computer Science, right? How's that going? Thanks for replying by the way.
@@Harvey1211 For now we are learning common engineering courses(cs is part of engineering degree in our country) after finals of first year we would finally start cs.
@@fzlagges5849 oh wow, you're at degree level! That's amazing! I hope I'm not interrupting your studies. You must obviously be intelligent then.
For a video you could read the letters of pi until u can’t no more
i love asmr but hate math in other hand-
HE IS SCOTTISH
bro aint no way this question caused a petition 💀💀💀. Solved it under two mins
Love looking to the comments and seeing everyone saying “wow this was so easy I could solve this when I was 2 in 0.5 seconds, smh”
I do agree that it is a simple question, and petitioning it was ridiculous, but there’s no need for that
No way he mad a channel about math bro what
Im sorry this is hard?
this was discussed in one of my lectures😂😂scottish unis take math very seriously hahaha

Ur so cool
This comnent section is so rude
it’s the easiest question 💀💀

@@gamer_boy9971 what were people saying that was rude? im genuinely intrigued
@@gamer_boy9971They’re not being rude, they’re confused as to why such a simple question caused an outrage.
