You'd think, but it would cost about as much by the time you buy all the lumber (beech in this case) the vise costs about $450 each and there's 2 of them, and then hardware and your time. Unfortunately the Sjoberg bench my boss bought for me to use 23 years ago was lost in the fire we had in June that destroyed the 4 buildings and everything in them, I was the only one in the shop who had a new commercial bench like this, I'll never have another Sjoberg bench again unless I pay for it myself and I don't want to spend the money for something to use at work that I know others will be horning in and using the vice and work surface when I'm not. It was a good solid bench, with the cabinets and drawers under it which costs extra.

Get a couple cheap blockwood beech worktops, rip em up, glue em up and make your own for less than a quarter the price
