I think I can help John McMullen better understand where Zander is coming from: think of Marshall Faulk's role in "The Greatest Show on Turf". His proficiency with catching the ball out of the backfield really freed up Holt and Bruce.
I dont think Zander is saying to line him up in the slot. I think hes talking about a screen game or passing to him out of the backfield. Obviously it depends on how the defense is playing us or what the weaknesses of the defense are but to say we have better options so calling plays for Barkley is something to lose your job over is ridiculous. When players start playing near the line of scrimmage you hit them over the top. When they play back you throw it underneath. AJ, Smitty, and Barkley are all #1 options. 1A, 1B and 1C. Goedert is a cut below those guys.
I dont like Johns attitude here and I think he just couldnt understand what Zander was saying cause at the end he was saying to get Barkley matched up on LB's... yes John, thats what he meant by getting Barkley involved in the passing game, not lining him up in the slot or out wide but how every team gets RB's involved in the passing game. Sheesh

John McMullen has no idea what he's talking about! I agree not to only throw to a running back but you should be using Saquon as a dult threat runner. The eagles were at their worst when it was obvious ok this running back runs ok let's put in this running back who only catches. Saquon helps the offense with the fear of being the dual threat rb we need!
John is wrong.. John has never called plays.. so he can't understand how it goes when u are in the heat of the game... Zander is on the right path, definitely.
Think about it.. wat makes John right, Is that the ideologies he talks about is how the Eagles actually call plays, which is why the offense fails when it shouldn't. It's sad, really. P.S. Westbrook lined up In The slot, & motioned to the slot. Also, the 2017 season, we had lesser RBs make huge contributions in the passing game all season to win it all.

Ok. I think we can distinguish a group of passing plays that are in effect spread out running plays. Rather than a handoff, they're technically a forward pass to the running back which is more sideways than forward. They could be a fairly common element of the offense but could be viewed as an extension of the running game.
Any other type of pass to a running back with the Eagles WRs healthy should be a dump off or a counter to a neglectful defense

I get what the great Jhon saying but I think we want to see Saquan used out in the passing game wheel routes Crossing Routes screens Texas route swift scored on in jets game I know hurts likes his legs and his mobility but In year 5 I need hurts to use his check down don’t abandon it use your legs instead of running the play that’s called to Jhon point us fans are expecting Saquan to be used as a multi dimensional RB like Westbrook like Shady that what we envision for are Super Star RB 😊

I’ve never been so annoyed by what his angle was this entire segment. It was way out there. “Use saquan the same as swift and miles sanders” insane
1. Allow Jalen to run the RPO that made him the MVP candidate in 2022. 2. Focus on the RUN first this year, rest the defense, limit turnovers and use play action / RPO to freeze the LB’S thus allowing for open passing windows and better yet running lanes for Barkley. If they did those two things - they would be nearly unstoppable on offense and the defense would be better. Jalen would be comfortable and more confident. Why they make things harder with constant change is a disservice to Jalen and the team.
Good point. Rpo, play action, boot, sprint, move pocket, quick screens, and 5 to 10 strait 5 to 7 step drop back. If he's dropping back into pocket more than that is a crime. He's a good qb but just do him right by play calling.
How many times did we see Hurts do a quick read, bail right and then throw out of bounds. That shit has got to stop. Effective QBs stay in the pocket, slide slightly to an open area and buy that extra second for a late route to come open. If this is what passes for QB mobility you can keep it

I tried to give Johnny-Mc an explicit example of the conditional situations like Zander was saying, & it also EXPLICITLY pertained to having Barkley match up on a LB (Sam), specifically, & yet he still acted as though it’d be dumb to throw to Barkley - even IF they’re playing Cover 3 (a run coverage), w/ 8 man box & then even specified a Buzz (SS/LB swap), & yet he still was like why not Dallas when you’d have Over/Under on him OR the FS if Dallas went vertical into a Center-Closed formation. Zander never said anything about Volume or Numbers, nor did he say lining up in Slot, etc. He said situationally, & I gave even an explicit situation where a QB would almost immediately be eliminating progression routes, like always, based on post-snap movement of the D eliminating them (& opening others - eg, moving the RB progression slides up as “above” are eliminated by formation played & vice versa).

I’ve never in my life heard so much BS around whether the QB that saved this franchise, that veterans extended their careers bc he was taking snaps, who’s made every offensive player he’s played with have their best, most productive seasons, who again had the rug pulled out with a different OC, who was completely out of his depth but after breaking records and outplaying PM in SB 57 and was robbed by refs of the chance to win, even though D didn’t produce one sack or TO & both OC & DC got HC jobs bc of Hurts!! And everyone assuming there’d be a SB hangover, which KC looked like they were hungover, carries the team to 10 wins of first 11 games and s/h beaten Jets. Broke records with AJ Brown for rec w/ 125 + yds for 6 straight games, yet Smitty still gets over 1K , Swift still rushed over1K and was top ten offense in league while defense was trash and beat 13 straight teams with winning records, again beat PM & Reid off a bye in their bldg!!! Beat Dallas & Allen in OT with no help from D during the toughest stretch of 6 games in the NFL last year. You don’t say anything about 1st rd QBs who’ve been paid more and done way less, you don’t deserve Hurts. He’s been successful everywhere he’s played despite no consistent OC play calling but the minute he gets one they go to playoffs & then SB, he plays hurt all last season, no credit, puts up top ten numbers with no help, no credit and you start making up stories about lockerroom fractions and his turnovers when Allen & PM had plenty of TOs and how many of JH TOs (Jets) led to losses they were 11-6 after 14-3, your ridiculous and it’s got to stop! Wake me when Herbert, Allen, Lawrence, Jackson, Tua, Cousins, Prescott, Goff (57.9 passer rating, 229 yds 1INT SB) Baker, Carr, Jones, Love, Stroud, hell Rodgers hasn’t been to a SB in 15 yrs, when they’ve done what Jalen has in his short career. And let’s see who earns their big contract, Burrow can’t stay on field and s/h lost to Ravens backup on 1 yd line. Get a grip and get some context, he was clearly best QB in 22 & was able to not play two games bc he was so good but s/h won MVP. Check PMs SB #s, they’re avg at best & if Hurts ever had a beat down like 15 took vs Tampa you’d pack his bags for him. Can’t recall one signature pass PM has thrown in 4 SBs, except the punt return that Hill caught on 3rd & 15 after a couple of INTs. Painful having to listen to you guys and I hope Moore’s good but two quality teams moved off of him, so jury’s out but asking if Jalen can make the plays, off-script, audibles, what are you asking him to do, be the OC as well??! Guys are a joke, I thought Sileo was bad…and he is but listen to yourselves and look at what he’s produced! If you’d rather have Purdy or Dak or Goff or Love, please do & leave educated fans alone!

So yes we need to be able to utilize Saquan and all of our weapons so we can keep defenses unable to scheme to one or 2 specific players. Zander is simply saying we need plays that utilize Saquan in the passing game at times. Not every time but in key situations. On 3rd or 4th & 3 vs a defense that has a lockdown corner and a strong supporting secondary we need to be able to say hey they have an LB that can’t cover our RB and get him the ball. PERIOD!
SAQUON is the best player/ athlete on the offense. YAC would be the highest on the team if they use him right! New age new game Johnny boy!

Hurts looked like he might have lost a step last year hes going to have to learn how to be more of a passer then hes been in his young career he can still run fast but his first two steps just wasnt the same last year an it was from the beginning not just after he got hurt

Why do you assume that Jalen will be able to seamlessly absorb and implement Moore's new offense when he's NEVER shown the ability to run anything other than the RPO?
You can blame the coaches all you want, but the issue was that Jalen makes predictable decisions and is very slow at processing what is in front of him. He didn't even set his own protections last year, or any other year, Kelce did it.
What you need to understand is that Jurgens is not Kelce, so Hurts will be tasked with setting his own protections, making more than one read, and having to deal with defenses intentionally disguising their coverages. At BEST, it will be a learning process. At worst, he crumbles, and Pickett gets the start.

Why do fans want to see the Eagles throw to running backs?
So when Todd Bowles blitzes Jalen Hurts under the table with a cover 0, Jalen can dump the ball off to the running back, the same way Tom Brady did in the 04-05 Superbowl when they had Jim Johnsons spy gate call. Any Eagles fan old enough to watch that game knows this, guess Jmac was still covering the Vikings back then.
It's a blitz beater against an all out blitz, and clearly this team needs more designed blitz beaters.
