Keep it up, Popatrao. I came in Dec 2011 to see the progress. The video did not mention that there 42 Rupee millionaires in the village. Mostly due to onions. I first came in September 2003 after meeting Anna Hazare in Ralegoan Siddhi (a distance of 30 km). I invited Popatrao to be the main speaker at the Pan IIT 2008 conference in IIT Madras - in the Rural transformation track.
This video needs to spread far and wide! And the distinction between Gram Sabha Raj and Panchayat Raj needs to be spelled out correctly : Decentralization does NOT mean some sarpanch or small group of influential people become the absolute rulers of the village / mohalla. People keep citing horror stories like gangrape-as-punishment, honor killing etc as examples of decentralization of power : THAT IS NOT DECENTRALIZATION. It means putting a permanent stop to the very practice of allowing one person to rule over many. In a decentralized model, ALL THE ADULTS in an area together take all the decisions affecting them. They don't elect any one person to take all their decisions : they themselves take the decisions. And that includes the women. If half of your decision-making body consists of women whose children's lives are at stake, then how can such a body ever do the kinds of gory horror things that we see being reported from villages?
I wish ALL Villages in MY Country turn Like This ...and FOCUS on - * WATER Management, Waste Mgmt, SOLAR Energy, WIND Energy, BIO-GAS, Fruits TREES, Hospitals and HIGH Schools..... and 1-Child POLICY..... INDIA Need 1-Child Policy now.
