Music video by Pulp performing Lipgloss. (C) 1993 PolyGram Video International
jarvis is 50% pure brilliance, 50% elaborate hand gestures
and those hand gestures are 100% pure brilliance
@@playgirlc Absolutely!
The Last of the Hand Gesturers with Any Brilliance to Speak Of. 😣
And 100% handsome! He’s got “it”!
😂😂😂
"Your stomach looks bigger and your hair is a mess and your eyes are just holes in your face". Great lyrics.
Totally agree amazing lyrics
The Guitar line is great... Kudos to the player, very easily ignored but stellar to the ear.
I wish there was a tab
@@prongs0611 it's not that hard, you can figure it out!
Eleven years after your comment was left, I concur. Jarvis gets all the credit but the musical arrangements, melodies, epic operatic structure and incredible production really need their time in the sun when it comes to exploration and documentation of Pulp's musical genius.
It is sublime musically, as well as lyrics.
Russell senior heh
This vid is so Britpop. I loved that whole aesthetic.
RIP Steve Mackey😢
@whatfitzanity4315 RIP 💟🙏🕯🌿🥀
They are such an underrated band.
+lipgloss1029 They are not underrated lots of people knew about them
lol bloke, almost every person born in the 70/80's knows Pulp, and they're probably the most famous BritPop band after Blur and Oasis, so I think you need to check your info.
Maybe you meant the song is underrated? That would be true.
not here hate
mate lol
They're not so well known in North America (in my corner of it, at least). It seems it's mostly just Oasis and Blur that have endured.
His 'n' Hers is the best album by any artist. FACT.
I love pulp because Jarvis lyrics relate to me so much and don't... It gives me a life I never had... And many of his songs made me stronger and feel better when I'm at my worst even though they're sad lyrics, they help me move on from bad events in my life.. He shows me that I can get through it..
always related more to Jarvis Cocker and Shaun Ryder than the Gallaghers or Blur
I feel exactly the same 💜
The great thing about Pulp is: They're SO hopeful in despear!
Same here man, my life is in shambles at the moment and this band is one of the only things giving me happy feelings
Anyone miss the days when there were no mobile phones or internet and you used to hang out with friends listen to music and get drunk on cheap cider at a house party? Makes me really nostalgic for the mid nineties. :(
i mean i'm a teenager now and with mobile phones and internet i still do all of the things you mentioned
@@parklifedd Lmao yes, funny how people think that we don't see our friends anymore since we have phones ahah
Yeah definetely
Ten years ago Lily...how much has the nostalgia intensified in 2022? If you still feel as passionately as in this old comment then I have to agree with you. I don't envy kids today at all. I'm so grateful that I had my youthful fun before the internet really kicked off.
Even if i born in 2000,and live in 2000’s , but i envy the old era don’t have phone or any social media like facebook,twitter,instagram.. those things just make people nervous and completed😢
I see so many old movie, the era without smart phone is utterly sincerely
Arguably the best band from a proper music city, Sheffield, and also so quintessentially English it's a wonder they have any popularity at all outside of Blighty.
This has always been one of my favorite Pulp songs.
In Uni halls 93/94 ish, going into the kitchen, someone had the telly on, this came on, I was transfixed, it was the start of a love affair with this band.
So you remember the first time.😊👌🏻😎
@@tetsuoshima7385 Far from the the worst time 😜
@@tetsuoshima7385 I was a mature student, I have a few moments in my early teens where were a few WTF have I just heard and where can I hear more.
John Foxx Underpass and The Cure's Hanging Garden are two that stick out.
Annie Nightingales request show running right after the chart show has so much to answer for!
RIP Steve Mackey
Indeed. RIP Steve Mackey
Jarvis and his signature hand choreography
They just don't make music like this anymore & that is an absolute truth and an absolute tragedy
I had such a great time making this record. Lovely People. RIP Steve, they broke the mould.......
I live for the editing at 2:47
x2
This video is so '90s...the swinging camera, the wild, manic editing and saturated colour. It also brings to mind that fisheye lens that every band had PR photos taken through/music videos totally over using. Pulp are genius. I heard the Alice B Toklas tinkly bells ringing simultaneously when I first heard them.
Blur in the morning
Oasis in the afternoon
Pulp in the night!!!!!
Suede?
Suede always
@@jeshkamWe've a few empty slots. Midday, Dawn, Dusk, even breakfast time is free.
Suede always x2
Supergrass
pulp songs are the dreamiest of all
but,...the hand gestures are pure brilliance
The best years of my life have Pulp in them.
'...and your eyes are just holes in your face...' Know that feeling...
the beginning reminds me of the tunnels in the old mcdonalds play area... no?
Duuude, totally. Woah, you just revived some of my old memories hahaha
omg true
Maybe they did film this in their local McDonalds
@@KnowYoutheDukeofArgyll1841they dont have maccie play areas in the UK
i was about 20 when this came out and think i was lucky to be that age and have so many groups like pulp, blur, oasis, massive attack, tricky, portishead and orbital at their peak.
love listening to these lyrics...Jarvis is a genius..and they cut it live.
Had the strange position of getting to know Pulp better through my first love, them becoming one of my favourite bands, and then being unable to listen to His n' Hers ever since.
I walked into an indie record shop recently in Bangor, NI and bought the LP
It sounds FANTASTIC.
I played Pulp all the afternoon !
I DO LOVE THIS MAN!
Russel is so aesthetic
Classic line-up of the band that kicked ass. Pulp is the greatest band of the 90-s.
A quintessence of pop sensibilities within a British phrase in time. These songs helped me driving through stoned foggy blackout motorways between my beloved and my love often via Leipzig
2:46 cool af
1993...Seems Like yesterday...Stay Alive in 1995...
The albums his & hers and different class shaped my life a little bit..
great is that
Man, the grainy, overexposed aesthetic of this vid and some others from the same time period is so beautiful. I'd kill to learn if that look could be replicated today
I believe the visuals for this music video were a homage to a scene from the 1970s sci-fi movie "The Final Programme".
Of course it can be replicated. You need the right lighting, the right stage design and the right post production software filters.
to be honest, even if the quality/premice/style of the video seems gaudy, it's all part of the sheer novelty. between the garish fashion and sporatic camerawork, it's all just very nostalgic.
True art and gesture!
It makes me so mad that I've only discovered Pulp in 2020.
Girl same. 😂 I want to write them a
Letter and maybe they’ll actually read it....Bc time.
I've debated writing to them for forever they're just so iconic
better late than never :)
@Anna Nikole And I'm sad that I never saw Pulp live.
At least I followed Pulp's development via our FM4 station and waited for every new album. ❤🔥
I have everything that could be bought in Austria.
@@browninhosteven8271 As a long term Pulp enjoyer (saw them live just after Javis mooned Michael Jackson) this makes me very happy. Please, spread the word of the great JC.
Pulp is the best thing to come out of the 80's
90's
Nope 80's got famous in the 90's but they are basically an 80's band
ultrablaster3000 Ahhh, but what about The Smiths??
They formed as Arabicus Pulp in 1978 and had plenty of play on John Peel's show on BBC One, before hitting the big time with the single 'Babies' and the album "His N Hers", which prompted Jarvis to say that they were "the longest running overnight sensation"
So they are basically a 70s band. Just kidding. If all your relevant stuff was made in the 90s, you are a 90s band.
Watching Pulp videos now makes me a little sad. It's really depressing to know how they were kind of not as well appreciated because of the whole Blur Vs. Oasis shite.
Lana Howard that is what makes them even more perfect, only the chosen ones know how great they were
Yes them and Suede.
In Blur vs. Oasis, I was always Pulp
Same destiny for Verve
Oasis, Pulp, Suede and Stone roses were miles ahead of blur. I dont know how blur even entered that conversation
Jarvis would be awesome to trip with as he does all those finger magics.
rip Steve
Descansa Steve 🥺
he is a GOD
Definitely Pulp's best song. Genius.
Jarvis is perfect ♥
you're not bad your self x
Ahaha smoothe that lad
best intro to a song, awesome
Do you know I was more dance obsessed back then, but now I honestly can appreciate how amazing Pulp is! Better than Blur and Oasis and the rest by far! They did pretty good in the charts back in the day but they are still underrated! Those guitar riffs are awesome each track aswell
Jarvis is the Nostrildamus of Nostalgia.
Rate this a 7.7
Only band that matters.
OMG!!!! They were brilliant in Primavera Sound in Barcelona!!!! Bravo!!!! You're the best!!! I was waiting 15 years.
A classic tune, classic Jarvis.
that bouncy castle thing there in i went in at a fair once. No one believed me thought id been on the shrooms again. now i have proof nice one pulp
Yes, it was called Eggopolis, made by a Nottingham company called Architects of Air, who are still going strong today.
This is exactly my situation too haha so happy right now
oh this song, thank you britain 90's
камешек Brit Pop and Seattle bands had the best music in the 90s. I miss living in a time when you didn't need to look to the past to find great music, it was happening in the present.
Thank you for the memories❤
You have been my favourite band!
First time I saw you in Brighton and the last was in Athens some weeks ago❤
Criminally underrated
In a hundred years time, all music videos on UA-cam will be a record of all the band member’s deaths.
30 people that disagree with a britpop masterpiece? BLASPHEMY!
No wonder you're looking thin
When all that you live on is lipgloss and cigarettes
And scraps at the end of the day
When he's given the rest to someone with long black hair
All those nights in, making such a mess of the bed
Oh, you never ever want to go home
And he wants you so you may as well hang around for a while
Call your dad on the phone, oh
[Pre-Chorus]
He changed his mind last Monday
So you've gotta leave by Sunday, yeah
[Chorus I]
Oh, you've lost your lipgloss, honey
Oh yeah
Now nothing you do can turn him on
There's something wrong
You had it once but now it's gone
[Verse II]
Oh, and you feel such a fool
For laughing at bad jokes and putting up with all of his friends
And kissing in public
What are they gonna say when they run into you again?
That your stomach looks bigger and your hair is a mess
And your eyes are just holes in your face
And it rains every day and when it doesn’t
The sun makes you feel worse anyway, oh
[Pre-Chorus]
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
Though you knew there was no way it was gonna last forever
It still shook you when he told you in a letter
That he didn't wanna see you
You nearly lost your mind, oh yeah
[Chorus II]
Oh, you've lost your lipgloss, honey
Oh yeah
Now nothing you do can turn him on
There's something wrong
You had it once but now it's gone, oh yeah
Oh, you've lost your lipgloss, honey
Oh yeah
Now nothing you do can turn him on
There's something wrong
You had it once but now it's gone
[Outro]
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Oh, ooh
Oh yeah
Every now and then I go down the UA-cam rabbit warren of music from my youth. Mostly I skip past the sing half way through, but Pulp tracks always get played right to the end.
BobElHat when I was little, my mom would always play pulp, so i got the chance of not being my classmates who listen to shit artists/bands
When I forget what was so great about Jarvis Cocker and Pulp I watch this
How could you forget?(:
aquí en cuarentena, una profe de inglés planificando sus clases, en compañía de la nostalgia brit-pop!
can't wait to see them live this summer :)
The Best
Wonderfully, evocative, shimmering intro and even tho Cockers half-demented squeals cannot detract from the song
A totally original tune from the mid 90's
God I love Jarvis!
pulp is the best!!!!!
What a photogenic bunch they were. Best dressed member of Pulp...?
Russ
Jarvis
Quanto è bella questa canzone....?
How beautiful is this song?
Beh sono stati un gruppo fondamentale nel rock inglese degli anni 90. Poi avere un front man come mr. Jarvis Cocker, che scriveva dei testi favolosi, li ha spinti ad emergere dalla massa.
Is this how an acid trip feels
sorta
Pulp Tour - Summer 2011... YES!!!
Jarvis is the coolest
Brilliant.....genius......sublime....pop song.
Great video for pretty much zero budget!
Agreed on the song. Less said about the video the better I think!
I need his shirt...
lol vevo put an ad for lipgloss beside the video?!
Well done, vevo, well done!
Genius.
I guess you all miss the 90's too, uh?
Genuinely curious... in all these videos there are jaw-dropping gorgeous lasses. Did they work in more than one Pulp video?
Great style and so good😎😍let's celebrate this good music-timeless💖🌹
a fckin great band, and one of the best songs ever
Looove this song!!!!
jarvis come to chile soon 🇨🇱🎉
2017...wow!
FAB
Gawd, why do the verses have to be 3000% better than the chorus?
'no wonder you're looking thin, when all you live on is lipgloss and cigarettes'
amazing son!! brother simplemnete epoka genial la de los 90'tas
Not that they're not both great songs, but is anyone else noticing a common theme between this and "Razzmatazz?" That idea of "Honey, don't get mad at *ME*, you did this to yourself"?
Right, what's with this theme of the dumb girly that deserves being ditched?
Simplemente los mejores del mundo
Fantastic
Jarvis was good when he was presenting the NME awards, very witty :)
fml i really thought is was 'laughing at badgers' not 'laughing at bad jokes' i feel a fool now
Luuuuv it
