Buzzsaw - Hyper Aggression Leads To Quick Wins

  • The best defense is a hyper aggressive offense! Buzzsaw is about chaining offensive techniques together, without pause, until you can either capitalize on a mistake your opponent makes or finally land a solid move. Cardio is a requirement, but as someone who takes their BJJ seriously, limiting your technique instead of just working on your cardio sounds very silly.

as someone who is a lazy, non competitive sack of potatoes, I always learn a lot when I watch your videos. they disgust me because it means I'll have to make myself uncomfortable to improve. but it's a good thing.

Guys first mistake was locking hands. I don't know why people do this, but it seems like they do it because they have seen everyone else do it. It's not a good habit to have. You're never taught in wrestling to interlock your hands with your opponent. When people reach out to do that, great, take wrist control and and get in on their legs.

I'm glad that you are honest about the need to push your physicality (cardio, strength, flexibility) in order to be a world-class competitor. When I first started BJJ, the common narrative was that technique was all you needed. When the technical factor is even then the physical factor makes the difference.

Good fighters capitalize on mistakes. Great grapplers make you make mistakes.

Andrew I love your lessons. You are a great teacher. One thing I need help with is hiding my intent to shoot the under hook. I have no problem with my knees and the leg work and sliding across but I have a hard time hiding my intent to get the under hook.

I've watched plenty of instructionals. This is just so much better. Until now, nobody actually tells you what to do. Other instructionals show you technique, but this guy tells you a game plan to use, which is so much better. I wish he was my coach.

Any chance in the future we get any updated Buzzsaw passing?

People tend to compliment my guard, but like you say the hardest opponents are the one that rush you. It doesnt even have to be very good technique and it even works if you know its comming. Atleast in the case of a guardpass, speed always beats me.

So from what I gather this Buzz saw style requires good technique, good cardio and efficient energy usage (keeping wasted movements to a minimum)

Nice video! In the historical sword manuals, I’ve seen this referred to as Type 1. Bold, courageous, aggressive, powerful, seek to take and keep the initiative, to overwhelm your opponent and force them to make mistakes. The other three types mentioned likely have analogies here too… :)

Great stuff, appreciate your videos (and your choice of background music!)
