Hey Julia! 🌸 Love the ongoing scoliosis updates! The pro of having a normal body is definitely the biggest one for me as well.. even though they couldn't get my spine completely straight (also had weekly dance classes my entire life but my spine just said NOPE lol). I had 2 surgeries at 14 and 17 years old, had a 92 degree top curve and ended up with a 26 degree curve post op. The pain I experienced before surgery was excruciating, that pain is significantly less and I grew a few 5cm, which I'm very grateful for! My torso is longer and looks normal from the front so my outfits fit much better, but because I still have a back hump, beaches and swimming pools still trigger my insecurities. Most chairs hurt without a pillow in the back, laying down on a flat service (like a yoga mat) hurts, and because my spine is fused at an angle still, I'm left with pain for probably the rest of my life. The (now chronic) scoliosis has an effect on my gut-microbiome and my pelvic floor which causes all kind of pains and strange symptoms in my nervous system.. and if the scoliosis is chronic, these other symptoms most definitely are too, which sucks. Surely I realise I had no other option and I'm truly grateful for my doctors doing everything in their power to get my spine straight, but I don't think I'm as happy with the end results as you are for example, like I don't feel that 'closure' you're talking about.. even though my regular check ups in the hospital have ended 5 years ago. I truly hope future research will have some solutions for patients who came out of surgery still having scoliosis! Your doctors did an amazing job with your surgeries Julia, and that scar is truly something to be proud of, I feel the exact same way about mine! Also the fact we're able to feel the rods inside of our backs still creeps me out too.. I remember the first time sitting up in the hospital post op I panicked and lifted myself off of the bed with my hands, like I was hovering above the bed, but ofcourse that's not allowed so soon after surgery.. I literally cried when I sat down, it felt like those rods we're going to pierce out of the back of my neck 😭😂 Anyways thank you for making scoliosis content still, don't recall any content creators raising awareness for scoliosis so your video's are a blessing! Much love 💖
