SHORTCUT:
look at all exponents of x, if they are all odd then its odd, if they are all even its even, if they are both its neither.
example: f(x)=-5x^6-4x^4-7x^2 this is an even function,
*remember a stand alone number has an exponent of 0 which is even, and a stand alone variable (x) has an exponent of 1 which is odd.*

now thats what i call an explination, so basically if all x's has an even exponents, then its an even function and vice-versa with odd functions? With the exception of whether or not there are -1s in the equation.
