Wow, now this is how you explain algebra material. To many teachers want to throw in advanced math jargon leaving us novice once more confused than a chameleon in a bag of skittles.
Awesome explanation! My "teacher" gave me a packet of homework with some of these but he never taught us anything about it... This really helped me understand, thank you! Keep making move videos please.
You teach this better than math teacher Mr.P he only answer ,"With what do you think the answer is."( and) "How do you know if that is correct."He makes every one in the class second guess themselves.( and its annoying as all get out!!!!)
thank you ever so much! great video and explanation- I have been 100% wrong in how I did this- getting the opposite of the right answer everytime. I believe your explanation will change that! Thanks! Hoooray for Piecrust!
SHORTCUT: look at all exponents of x, if they are all odd then its odd, if they are all even its even, if they are both its neither. example: f(x)=-5x^6-4x^4-7x^2 this is an even function, *remember a stand alone number has an exponent of 0 which is even, and a stand alone variable (x) has an exponent of 1 which is odd.*
The video moved along a little slowly because of how long it took to explain the arithmetic (which really I didn't need to see) but overall really helpful, thanks!
now thats what i call an explination, so basically if all x's has an even exponents, then its an even function and vice-versa with odd functions? With the exception of whether or not there are -1s in the equation.

Thank you for the reply. As a math instructor, I require my students to prove a functions is even or odd, not just state it.
Awesome explanation, thanks for being so methodical!
