      @@HermanHitstheRoad Yes I did, planned to cycle there from Devizes site, but that didn't go well. I ended up driving there in what will be my camper, no problem parking, but it is only a SWB Peugeot Expert.

    Very interesting! They were ‘man’ spanners according to Slaw 😂 Lovely weather you had too. Thanks for sharing 🚍☀️

    What an interesting place. The canal system with all the locks, lifts, pumps and tunnels is quite an engineering marvel.

    Wasn't aware of that place so great heads up. Just need to time a visit with their steam dates.

    I loved that video. We used to have a canal boat on the Grand Union canal so I love anything related to the canals but I also love steam engines and engineering. That display screen was food for thought! My son is a software engineer and my grandfather was a fireman on a steam train. It it made me think about how things have changed and you can sit in your office and write code to assess and manage performance whereas my grandfather would use his knowledge and experience in the engine to assess the situation. I always fancied having a traditional narrowboat with a vintage engine, beautiful polished brass and a manual gear system, the sound they make as they travel the canal is lovely. They really are a labour of love. Thanks for sharing another interesting video.

    I wish that the Steeplejack that installed the Chimney Bands has lined them up, I bet Fred Dibnah would have them all in alignment from the top band to the bottom band.
    If you liked Crofton Beam Engine, you will love the Black Country Working Museum, if you haven't already been. I really want to go to Beamish, but Kids and Dogs are putting a stop to it at the moment.
    You can't beat the smell of steam engines working, in whatever form they take one.

      Hahaha, I spotted that too, @DiggerBuckett. Beamish looks great, I may have to plan a trip up to County Durham 👍👍

      @@HermanHitstheRoadif you like this sort of thing and you get up to Durham to see Beamish, swing by the Killhope Lead Mining museum. It's in the middle of North Pennines AONB but worth the drive if you're staying near there. It's free to get in too!

    hi Ads and Zoe ,i know this is a little off topic but what engine is in Herman its just that me and a friend are servicing his hymer today and his is a 2.5 td 1998 year so id guess same running gear has Herman

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad  Рік тому +1

      Hi Drexel Spivey, Herman is a 1998 Fiat Ducato with a 2.5 diesel engine. Non turbo. The running gear maybe the same as yours but I think ours was built in a change over year meaning it could have parts from new and older models.

      @@HermanHitstheRoad Thanks for the reply ,one of the reasons for me asking is that your recent 5th gear problems encouraged me to get a friend to top up gearbox oil but, there appears to be no gearbox dip stick on his ,but thanks for the great video s you Zoe and Chas do ,also this is another friends hymer who had the same rear brakes has herman , im a member of a great group over here in ireland Irish Hymers and we tinker on each others vans some times
