One of my favourite quotations: Cinema is the ONLY thing in the world where people regularly say 'it's meant for kids. It doesn't have to be good." I think it is funny that at least here in Canada, parents are so obsessed that anything else for kids has to be high quality (nutritious food, award winning children's literature, educational toys) but when it comes to movies it's just like "Who cares?" lol Or is that just my family?
I'll tell you what happened to FanboyFlicks' first upload of "Son of the Mask". Some random film company flagged his original video down for copyright infringement. The only problem is, there's a good chance that the company that I'm referring to had nothing to do with the movie in the first place. Fox recently flagged down FanboyFlicks' review of Elektra. I hope we get to see that video again someday. These film reviews are entertaining and they deserve to stay up on this website.
The mask effects people in different ways. Read the comic. While it usually does make one "wacky," this was a poor attempt to imitate Carey, something that the lead actor doesn't come close to doing. The only thing I find interesting about this movie is what the kid will be like when he grows up. He's basically a god and invincible. He could make one HELL of a dictator.
Jim Carrey the Mask 1994 ONLY this movie shouldn't even be made when I read that Jamie Kennedy was playing this movie I didn't see it because I knew it was going to suck bad lol
I'd personally rather watch this, mostly because I don't really care about the source material here. But judging as a standalone movie, son of the mask is probably worse. DBE makes you angry, this just makes you cringe.
Hello! I'm visiting 9 years from when you released this one. If you ever get too complacent in your film making, recognize that you are also operating in a sort of Time Machine. As viewers, we go back and forth through time - in the only, current, feasible way possible. So, that, is pretty cool. Safety Not Guaranteed? ❤
I totally enjoyed Jim Carrey's The Mask and when I heard they were making a sequel, I was excited. I looked at the cover and saw he was not in it but a non-funny actor who replaces him. I watched this movie and now I regret it. WHAT THE HECK DID YOU PEOPLE DO TO THE MASK!?!?!?!?
@@CammyD415 That movie wasn't good in any way, but I didn't think it was that bad. I just thought it was dull not really standing out. The woman who played the scientist saved the movie for me because otherwise I would have been more harsh on it... I watched Suicide Squad not long before so that helped, too, because I really thought this movie sucked way more than the new Ghostbuster! At least the villain got a chuckled out of me once at the end.
8:41-8:48 Did anyone else notice this editing error? During Tim and Loki's public confrontation, there are 2 Black men walking past Tim on his left, and it cuts to Loki, where those 2 men are absent (they should be walking past Loki by this point) and instead, when it returns to Tim, the one with the white shirt and beanie walks past Tim...again.
The Mask comic series was supposed to be gory but The Mask movie starring Jim Carrey was just as successful and entertaining. This sequel is a slap in the face to the fans. Congratufuckyoulations Lawrence Guterman.
I'm surprised there was no mention of how cringe Loki's hair was. This movie must have been at the height of "nu-metal" to even attempt to pull off that level of radio rock douchebaggery.
Producers: " So we wanna to a sequel but Jim Carey says he won't do it what should we do??" Other Producer: " Meh... just call up Jamie Kennedy available .and half the price..."
Producer: "Yeah, and let's have a scene where Jamie Kennedy gets headbutted in the balls by a baby, too! That'll make sure we tank our careers, too, right? And ruin whatever small amount of credibility Jamie Kennedy had leftover from being in the Scream movies, as well, right? Not that he really had any credibility in the first place, but we REALLY need to make the worst sequel of all time here guys!"
Hey, Mark. Just wanted you to know that I sort of feel your pain. I have tried to watch all of your videos, but couldn't bring myself to watch a few of them because they looked so weird or the movies looked TOO stupid. But, now that I have watched all of the others and I was now bored, I decided to go ahead and watch the ones I was putting off. And, just so you know which ones and the TORTURE I went through... I watched these videos, one after another... Space Jam 2, Baby Geniuses, Food fight, Son of the Mask and Garbage Pail Kids. I am sincerely glad you didn't have to write and perform your videos for those movies one after another, no movies in between. It was a mistake to put them off to do all at once... the horror... the horror.. Just a note in Son of the Mask.. the baby peeing scene.. it was not only stupid, pointless and not funny at all, it was staggeringly disgusting watching the main character (or anyone) drenched to the bone in piss. I almost threw up a couple of times seeing the scene.
"Lay off. It's just a kid's movie." Yeah. Jim Henson put that excuse to bed decades ago. He made a whole career out of making movies and TV shows for kids that were well crafted and intelligent.
I liked it. It has a good message about not letting the TV raise your kid, while paying homage to the old "Tom and Jerry" age of cartoons. There are a few great moments, like "Mother!" and Torpedo Turtle. Some people complain that it's doesn't hold a candle to Jim Carrey's role, but the mask took a different body and inherited aspects of a new person. It isn't supposed to be the exact same character. I enjoyed the movie for what it was, and I enjoy it more each time I see it.
The Mask movies are for kids. The reason why the first movie was rated PG-13 is because of the violence. If you look at the pie chart, violence is the majority.
I completely understand. I had a good idea for once and didn’t see this in the theater. To this day the only movie I’ve walked out on was “Howard the Duck”. I actually complained about it’s quality (or lack thereof) to the manager and he refunded my ticket price.
@@HEDGE1011 You got to see Howard the duck in theaters? How old were you if you don't mind me asking? HTD came out when I was only 3 and I remember my mom renting it for my siblings and I when it came out on home video. I admit I enjoyed it at the time. I see now why someone who was older would hate it but always was curious about how moviegoers reacted to it in theaters. Did a lot of people walk out? Were people visibly annoyed with it? I enjoy it now for the nostalgia while as a child I thought it was funny, weird and even a little disturbing (the scenes with Jeffrey Jones as the dark overlord were jarring in comparison to the first half of the film.
This is Jim Carey's fault. After he refused to make The Mask 2. I hope one day they make a reboot of The Mask animated series, these series where good. Completely agree. I thought this was his prequel story, but this is somehow WORSE than twilight. Oh, yeah, I went there. I'm ACTUALLY defending Twilight over Son of The Mask. Someone, either shoot me or pinch me to make sure I'm not dreaming and I didn't just say all that out loud, and punch a baby in the face for me, please, sir/madam. Because I've seen this horror of a movie more than once and I ACTUALLY thought it was a GOOD movie when I was a kid, back in 2005, when I saw it on TV the first time and, I also thought Jamie Kennedy did a good job in this movie, at that time. I must've been either a dumbass, or must've been high back then... because I loved The Mask with Jim Carrey. He made the character work well, despite the comic book series being gory, and bloody, which sounds like a better idea for a movie, but Jim made the character his own, despite all that. Because that's what he does, he takes a character, and makes it his own, and yet STILL people try and make crappy sequels without him. But at least, he'll be reprising his role as Dr. Eggman in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog sequel. Even with the absurd mustache and suit Eggman's always wearing. That's the magic of Jim Carrey. Don't take his movies characters and do sequels without him. Like if they tried to make a sequel to The Truman Show without him, it would be a failure immediately. But whenever he returns to his characters, in sequels, it's usually better than making crappy sequels without him. Like making a sequel to Dumb & Dumber after 20 years, and reuniting Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, worked out well, in my opinion. Sorry if this was a bit too long or seemed like an essay; I'm just a HUGE fan of both Jim Carrey as an actor, and I'm a HUGE fan of The Mask, BECAUSE of Jim Carrey's perfect personality and performance In the role, as Stanley Ipkiss, because it's why I'm a fan of his work even to this day, well that and Dumb & Dumber, and even The Cable Guy, and even Batman Forever, as The Riddler. There's no role Jim Carrey can't pull off, even in a bad movie. Again, sorry if this was a bit too long.
@@shawnfields2369 No problem that it's long, might want to put some spaces between the paragraphs. Yeah, we all have a garbage movie we liked as kids. I liked Baby's Day Out, don't know what I ever saw in the awful movie.
@@Bopperann Ah, ok. Thanks for the criticism. I agree, everyone's got a terrible movie that we liked as kids, or even now. I had a few. I hated movies like Twilight or High School Musical, or Twilight, or 50 Shades of Dogshit(as Jeremy Jahns called it), or 50 Shades of Grey, which makes me want to puke, just mentioning it. Same with Son of The Mask. Or pretty much anything Jamie Kennedy is in. Never saw or heard of Baby's Day Out, but I'm sorry you liked a terrible sounding movie like that. I liked Kangaroo Jack, Master of Disguise, and even Zoom as a kid. 3 movies BionicPIG himself has reviewed, and 3 of the main reasons why I subscribed to his channel. I also enjoyed Norbit, the awful, somewhat racist Eddie Murphy movie. Don't know why though... I'm Asian myself, and I don't know why I thought Eddie Murphy's racist portrayals of Chinese people were hilarious back then. I mean, it was only 2007, so I was 14 or 15 at the time. I just mainly liked his movies. It's definitely fine to like crappy kid movies, or crappy movies, even as a kid, but you don't need to be a movie critic to enjoy certain movies. Even crap like Twilight, which every girl and their mothers at the time wouldn't stop talking about, which I definitely had heard enough about, and I'm a dude. Maybe I was a bit angry because I'm still single but since the main guy from those awful movies has redeemed himself and shown he can be a good actor, I'm actually looking forward to his performance as Batman next month. The trailers make him look like he's literally bulletproof. And yeah; I sometimes forget to put spaces between paragraphs, sorry. But you're right, we all have terrible movies/games/songs, whatever, that we enjoy, whether ironically or unironically.
The only good thing that came out of this movie was the documentary heckler in which Jamie Kennedy explores how critics operate and their relationship with artists.
It appears as if Jim Carrey made the right decision when he refused to star in this movie. If you can't get the original cast back for a sequel or a spinoff to "The Mask" then you shouldn't make a sequel or a spinoff to "The Mask". This is one of worst movies ever made and for good reason. It's not funny, the characters were miscast, and the story is just a jumbled and convoluted mess.
I'm pretty sure that the cancelled "The Mask 2" has nothing to do with "Son of the Mask". From imdb: "Son of the Mask" itself was adapted from an original screenplay by Lance Khazei titled "Baby Formula." "Baby Formula" was never intended to be a sequel to the Mask nor was it originally intended to be a kid's movie. "Baby Formula" has been described as having been inspired by "Rosemary's Baby" and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and originally intended for a more adult audience.
I think its biggest problem is that, the kind of humor and the over all over the top things works in kids cartoons, just doesn't transfer over to real life movies (whatever the correct term for that might be.)
This movie should be studied by CGI artists as what not to do in CGI.
SuperArmus this and the star wars prequels

The people who worked in this movie are ILM which is a proffesional GCI crew

Speaking of Carrey-less follow up flops, could you please review Evan Almighty so I don't have to sit through that one as well?
Dean's Girl that fucking sequel sucked sweaty unshaved balls
He's done Ace Ventura 2, Dumb and Dumberer so hopefully Jim Carrey will give us the sequel we really need
I remember having this being played constantly at a daycare I went to, I think it was the reason why I get scared very easily
Yikes. That’s straight-up child abuse. I’m not kidding.
I could swear that you already reviewed this movie.
Also, I can't believe the scene with the Mask-sperm. This is supposed to be a kids movie?
He already did. It got taken down, so he reuploaded it
Davis Productions Oh, well that's stupid. This qualifies under "Fair use."
How could the director/writer and the rest of the production team sit down in a meeting room and discuss this!? And I thought Little Man was wrong!
I don't even remember that sequence. Where was NC on A Family Picture when that happened.
Jamie Kennedy and Jim Carrey should both reprise their roles in one film and call it "Mask vs Mask"
Fired Up Pranks Well, that's not a bad idea
carrey would wear him as a fur coat.. no contest.
Carrey wouldn't make it, consider fighting is "violence" (as Kick-Ass 2) and violence creates school shooters 🙄
They should call it “The Mask-arade”
It would be pretty one sided. Jamie Kennedy is trash.
Jim Carrey the Mask 1994 ONLY
this movie shouldn't even be made
when I read that Jamie Kennedy was playing this movie
I didn't see it because I knew it was going to suck bad lol
I'd rather watch Dragonball: Evolution than this.
That says a lot.
I agree and I agree....again... this is the central scrutiniz.. oh sorry, wrong video :P
I'd rather watch dragon evolution bloopers
I'd personally rather watch this, mostly because I don't really care about the source material here. But judging as a standalone movie, son of the mask is probably worse. DBE makes you angry, this just makes you cringe.
Did cris stuckmann watch this movie yet?
A lot a lot
The new ghostbusters will be the son of the mask for the ghostbusters franchise
At least that was....
It wasn't fucking son of the mask there's at least that.
DAY-V Entertainment™ yall just jumping on the bandwagon to hate the movie its not even that bad
@@fantasydesiree96 the new Ghostbusters doesn't fucking exist, it's pure unfunny dogshit
5:53 "Bombing in the worst way possible". Have you seen Jamie Kennedy's stand-up lol? More bombings than Dresden.
The headbutt to the balls being a good representation of sitting through the movie. haha That is freaking hilarious. best line of the video
I watched the mask when I was like 7. I watched the second one and I thought it was bad at 8. I loved any movie at 8 except that one
I am looking forward to seeing Son of the Son of the Mask in 2018.
fuck you
How's That Thing Niece of the Mask
thanos of the mask
how much you want to bet that he becomes a sperm donor?
Yes you are lol
The Mask comic series was supposed to be gory but The Mask movie starring Jim Carrey was just as successful and entertaining. This sequel is a slap in the face to the fans. Congratufuckyoulations Lawrence Guterman.
passiflora incarnata 😂😂😂😂 that congrats tho hehehe
5:50 you mean like Jamie Kennedy??
I'm surprised there was no mention of how cringe Loki's hair was. This movie must have been at the height of "nu-metal" to even attempt to pull off that level of radio rock douchebaggery.
Look at this photograph 🌉
Producers: " So we wanna to a sequel but Jim Carey says he won't do it what should we do??"
Other Producer: " Meh... just call up Jamie Kennedy available .and half the price..."
Oh hi mark !!
lol banter Ha-ha what a story Mark!
Anyway how's your sex life
RadarFilms Can't talk about it :).
Sorry Alex DeLarge
RadarFilms Uhm what do yah mean?
I don't remember the Mask sperm scene. Was it deleted?
That scene wasn't in america
captaintaco2345 I haven't seen the sperm scene either.
It was deleted hah
This is the worse film ever. I can't watch all of it.
then don't
it is a joke of film. i’d rather watch someone get a flushot than this shit
"Lay off. It's just a kid's movie."
Yeah. Jim Henson put that excuse to bed decades ago. He made a whole career out of making movies and TV shows for kids that were well crafted and intelligent.
Thank God we didnt get Son of MASK here in South Africa!
Ages ago they talked about a Mask sequel on the Jim Carrey Online forums and yet..the actual sequel we got was THIS?
the mask first form in the original movie was awesome, now we have *sighs* this
Yup in this sequel I was like oh dear god.
I enjoyed the movie for what it was, and I enjoy it more each time I see it.
any actors who think they can substitute Jim Carrey have no clue what the hell they are doing.
I actually had to pause this review half way through and go watch The Mask with Jim Carrey. I then came back and finished the review.
I salute whoever watched this movie all the way through, I couldn't make it past the Ben Stine scene.
Wish there was an R-Rated Mask movie.
read the comics
I thought you died on the Death Star!?
Emperor Palpatine How are you still alive?
Son of the mask should get a X rating and then promptly destroyed that way nobody can see it.
The Mask movies are for kids. The reason why the first movie was rated PG-13 is because of the violence. If you look at the pie chart, violence is the majority.
Nonsense, Son of the Mask aka Fils Du Masque is the greatest American motion picture in history.
U have problems
@@jordonlee9162 MOTION PICTURES.not a movie
Still u have problems
This was the first movie I ever legitimately wanted to walk out of!
@@winterlynn9012 at least that movie has marty mc fly mom in it
Im genuinely sorry that you paid for this abomination
God. I remember foolishly watching this money grab when I was younger. I think that's why I'm so mentally FUBAR.
Zak Stokes So i'm not alone.
This is Jim Carey's fault. After he refused to make The Mask 2.
I hope one day they make a reboot of The Mask animated series, these series where good. After watching the entires series, and The Mask movie, I wanted more... I was considering watching this movie... But well, I guess I don't want to now...
@@AnAverageGoblin xD
I watched this when I was a kid, and I found this film highly nonsensical and just bad.
the review could have stopped at 0:03, perfectly done! :D
I watched this film once and I never laughed. I found it purely boring and not worth while to watch.
I think when The Mask came out it got a lot of praise it didn't deserve because CGI was a new thing.
10:52 My mom runs a costume shop, and I can tell you that this single Jamie Kennedy mask has been hanging on the wall, for sale, since this movie came out.
That's just sad....
So this has to be the worst comic book movie ever made right?
Holy crap you're right. I forgot this was a comic.
I don't feel bad for Loki since he's became a beloved fixture in the MCU.
Yeah, but having Nightcrawler play Loki first, not as a good idea, and I like the actor who played Loki in this, but clearly, Nightcrawler was the better role for him.
This is the part where you boogie this is the part where you dance
yknow. I didn't hate his mask character. I actually thought he was pretty entertaining. but the fact that he only showed up twice is what's bullshit. and everything in between was also bullshit
somehow, I never seen the sperm scene.
That scene wasn't in the American version
"I'd rather punch 'baby geniuses' in the face, than watch this movie again."
i love how they already had a kid(the headbutting one) and hes just NEVER seen again? like was he abducted? run away? what happened to their other kid?
Your description is right on! Absolutely perfect!
"How bad is Son of the Mask?"
Me: Yes
"Yes"? I just sat through a video of a horrible movie. I don't need to be reading retarded comments.
And don't even tell me that shit of the Yes being what's cool or trendy because that's bs
@@clinton7846 what the hell is ur problem asshole
I remember watching this as a kid. And I HATED IT. Yes at the age when I loved crap like the star wars prequels and Godzilla 98....I hated this peice of shit
Me too! I first saw it when I was 10, and it fucking SCARRED ME FOR LIFE!!!!!! It haunted my dreams so much!
I still love Godzilla
I absolutely loved this movie as a child, and still do
My condolences
He said that.
It's like if the "baby" from twilight went on a rampage.
Seriously were the filmmakers and cast really that super high on drugs making this utter fucked up movie??!!
I know it sucked that Jim Carey wasn't in it. But still I loved the movie
From imdb:
"Son of the Mask" itself was adapted from an original screenplay by Lance Khazei titled "Baby Formula." "Baby Formula" was never intended to be a sequel to the Mask nor was it originally intended to be a kid's movie.
The CGI baby and the dog were the most fleshed out characters in this movie. That's says it all.
