I love making clocks, lots of fun.
I get inspired with everything you do and show us thank you
love that glass
You are a star! I used to have my Dremel in a stand screwed into my workbench with a big tray of water. I can't do that in my new studio so had given up projects that needed holes. I never thought of making clay wells!!! I can now make the clocks I had planned . You have made a happy start to the New Year !
Awesome clock! Thanks for making the video!
This is really cool.
Cool clock, Jamaison! I've made a bunch of them, some 2 layers, some 1. Fun.
Couple things:
-- I used to use my big DeWalt corded drill to drill the holes, and had a tough time keeping the bit from "traveling" before it bit into the glass... until I discovered that if I went "full tilt boogie" (highest speed possible) and just went straight into the glass, everything went fine. That's a little nerve wracking, though.
-- I always "come up for air"... in other words, if you continuously drill until you've completed the hole, the glass will overheat even with cooling water surrounding it. So, best to drill a little, lift the bit up for a second or two, then drill a little more, etc.
-- I finally got a Dremel AND a drill press. What a difference. I put the Dremel in the drill press, load it into a big plastic bin, put that in my kitchen sink, and add water until it's just above the top of the glass. The drill press makes it so easy... I set the speed to about halfway, then lower the drill bit into the glass, drill for a little bit then lift, etc. Perfect holes every time.
-- I buy clockworks from a different company, but I'll give your link a go. In terms of the shaft length, you'll note in their 4th photo that they explain the 3 shaft length options, and you're able to buy from them clockworks with 5/8, 3/4 and 7/8 inch shafts, depending on the depth of your glass.
Thanks for your videos, Jamaison. I always enjoy them and usually learn something. Much appreciated.
Thanks for all the tips! I agree that in some additional practice, I found going full power straight on did better. And I love the “come up for air” which I was also doing but hard to tell in the time lapse. I have the dremel and drill press. I just need to use it more often. But these bits don’t fit in my dremel. 😟
great idea with clay, thank you
Awesome job meeting your fear head on!
Happy New Year, you had me laughing, thank you for always sharing
I used to make clocks from picture discs. I found that the hanger that came with the clockworks never seemed to hang well so I added 3 rubber stoppers so it was stable against the wall.
Love the clay idea for small drilling projects. Thanks!
So many helpful ideas here. Thanks, Jamaison!
Love this clock very pretty !
Great job drilling! I was watching it and getting anxiety as I didn’t see you holding onto the glass. I was hoping it wouldn’t start spinning and fly off your table once it went through. Whew! 😄 I have some clock works in my stash and still haven’t tried this. Thanks for the inspiration! Super cute design!
I’ve used water like that for drilling also. I’ve also used cutting oil or grinder coolant with the clay. Great video Jamaison. Thanks for sharing. Happy New Year
Happy New Years!! Perfect time for a clock!!
Happy New Year Jamaison! That looks really, really nice! Drilling holes in glass accurately comes with tons of practice. It's always a nail biter, but eventually it becomes second nature. That glass is stunning!. I loved this project and I am sure your boss will love it too! Oh, in case I missed it if you mentioned it, nearly all strengths of rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab will easily remove black sharpie for sure and I THINK other colors as well. Gorgeous project! Thanks for sharing ❣
What a great video to start the new year! Happy New Year! 🥂
Hi Jamaison - I’d love to see how your cane cutting contraption operates!

I never thought of using something like clay to make the water well. I have a drill press, but it spins water everywhere! I was trying to drill lots of holes in the center of kaleidoscope wheels with a small piece of wood (that wanted to float) on the bottom. My pan was oversized and I had about 1/2" of water. As you noted, even with a hand drill, everything shakes! Very messy! I am going to rethink just creating a little well and your clay is a great idea starter! Thanks!
Gorgeous! I want one - no inside jokes necessary. 😄
