    My face when the heat sinks fell out of the bin and made that beautiful ringing sound! I have a 1950's cast aluminum sauce pan with a domed drip lid that sounds like a prayer bell at a Buddhist temple.

    These vids are the best, so good seeing you cash in and get that well earned dollars for the work you do 💵👍🏽. Also thanks for the little tips and tricks you throw in, I’m just a very very low key (mainly wire and copper) scrapper but iam starting to get what I feel rather efficient and earning a few extra easy dollars for myself. I’m up Sydney and on the weekend I cashed I had low grade insulated @$2.30, copper #1@$6.80 and lead @$1.60 prices were nearly back to pre Covid so happy days 👍🏽

    Dang Ben pretty good prices what we get here in USA is different and not sure how the exchange difference is in Australia. But I am in the State of West Virginia and best I ever got for clean #2 insulated is $0.60 a pound and right now it's going for $0.40. My scrap yard won't give me extruded price either for heat syncs they only paid me cast price. If that don't change I expect I am going to make casting out of mine and try and market it to machine shops as machineable aluminum. Because right now it's under $0.20 a pound so prices are very depressed which is why I am stock piling everything. I live out in the country and have 5 acres of land. So room isn't an issue for me I can stack it pretty high then cash in when prices make it worth while.

  • @tjsource
    @tjsource 4 роки тому +1

    Your right it is extruded aluminium. I work for sims metal in the uk and something that small we wouldnt be able to bale as we bale longer lengths the small pieces would just fall out through the banding wire. We would have to sell it differently, we would still give you the same price. The forklift driver was just explaining that I think.

    The scrapyard I took a swathe of crushed aluminium cans to a few years back never even bailed the haul. It was all simply poured into 3 wool bags for loading onto a big rig with any other freight. Totally filled 3 wool bags with it. Then they just briquetted the relatively minor surplus of that with any other residual cannage. They could just fill up the rest of that very metal container with other chunky bits of extruded and away she goes by big rig to the docks. Its a case of, " I dunno about any crushing and bailing, but that is full on extruded, you fools. ".

    • @kenjett2434
      @kenjett2434 4 роки тому +1

      Not sure how Ben does it but I have a vise that I clamp my plugs in and grip the brass with a pair of vicegrips and just pry them out. They don't pull out that hard once cut from the cords. Often you will get a short piece of copper wire come out with the brass. You can trim that and put it with clean #2 copper.

    • @sharonknust5873
      @sharonknust5873 4 роки тому +1

    • @kenjett2434
      @kenjett2434 4 роки тому +2

      @@sharonknust5873 you can avoid using a vise that way but that adds a extra process and alot of time boiling. A vise doesn't cost much at Harbor Freight that works plenty good for electronic scrapping. The brass pulls out quite easy unheated with the male plugs. The female ends are more difficult tried freezing and breaking but easiest i found for female plug ends is clamp in vice and take a sharp wood chisel and just split them open. The chisel will slice right through the pvc insulation to recover the brass. A vice is a great tool for scrapping and not exspensive.

    • @kenjett2434
      @kenjett2434 4 роки тому +2

      @@sharonknust5873 I use a $40 folding table from Wal-Mart works great. I have it set up in my living room as I am disabled and scrapping electronics gives me something I can stay busy with. It really doesn't take much I gave $60 for my vice and mentioned the table. The rest is just mostly simple hand tools a cheap set of wood chisel also HF a set of pliers needlenose, cutters and channel lock from HF a pair of vicegrip pliers a shop hammer and a good bit driver set that has all your torxs, hex, Phillips, flathead, and security style bits. Those are pretty much the basics and if you had to get it all from scratch would be under $150 unless you went for higher price brands. Other than table you can find everything at Harbor Freight. Scrap safe and scrap smart but most of all have fun scrapping. Oh at some point I would recommend getting a decent heat gun. This can be a big help when depopulating parts off of circuit boards that you may want to salvage. Like by bga chips, ic chips and heat syncs and copper bearing items.

  • @scrapman502
    @scrapman502 4 роки тому

    you know you can drill some small holes in the bottom of your bins to let the water run out. Since you're just using these bins for recycling and not gooey smelly garbage, there would be no reason not to do it. Large dumpsters have drain plugs in them to drain out the water and gooey mess, most people don't realize they are there for that purpose.
    I worked for a TV repair shop once in a parking lot recessed on a slope. the only means of water escaping was a small drainpipe at the bottom of the lot. It got clogged once with large plastic bags and the entire lot filled up with water after a downpour and the dumpsters started floating. The only way to put them down and keep them down was to remove the drainplugs. problem Solved. I took off my shoes and socks, walked over to the pipe and pulled out the bags. That sure was fun. Water was about 2 1/2 feet deep.
