  • Today, I brought the A9III from the field into the studio for Christmas mini-sessions. I wanted to test how it would perform in the studio with OCF (off-camera flash). It held up pretty well with the AD300Pro. I did both normal sync at shutter speed 1/500 and tested the flash timing sync at 1/5000. I find it wild that I can remove all the ambient light with just shutter speed instead of using the aperture as well!
    **Warning**
Do not use auto-white balance when using the FTS (Flash Timing Setting). Please set the white balance to flash or use a grey card. Leaving the camera on auto-white balance will expose it to the scene without flash, resulting in cold images.
    Normal Sync Specs:
    1/500
    f/5.6
    ISO 125
    AD300 Power 1/4
    Flash Timing Specs:
    1/5000
    f/2.8
    ISO 250
    AD300 Power 1/32
    FTS (Flash Timing Setting): 760-780
    Gear Used:
    A9III
    AD300Pro
    Godox 65" Silver Umbrella

Thank you! I'm the polar opposite of a gatekeeper. I can't wait to open my doors and start giving classes.

Thanks a lot for sharing the BTS.
Question about the angle of your camera; at the beginning for the kids you shoot from a higher point tilting your camera towards the floor (just a bit of course), and the last few shots you keep the camera parallel to the floor.
When do you choose one angle vs the other?

The arch on the backdrop is the reason. It is more pronounced with the little ones than with the adults in the picture. I was hoping that when they printed this backdrop, the arch would be a little higher than it was. It was all about the composition with the arch on the backdrop. Next year, if I do an arch backdrop, I will make sure the arch is on top of the backdrop and not closer to the middle.

@@justinhatchvisuals thanks, that makes sense. I've never used a printed backdrop, I always add the background in Photoshop so I didn't think about that. I usually have the camera on the tripod at eye level and shoot with the camera perpendicular to the ground

I’m new to Godox and noticing some color inconsistency. Has this been an issue for you?

I normally use a white balance card prior to my sessions for the day. I haven't had any inconsistencies with my flashes, other than maybe one out of maybe 200 images my flash not trigger.

    Hey! thanks for the video!
What lens did you used?, i have a christmas mini sessions for church and My gear at the moment is Sony A7iii with Tamron 28-75 2.8 G1. Also i have my Canon 6D with Canon 24-105 L as backup. Any tips or recommendations?
this will be my first shooting, and im a begginer

@joserosado3329 are you using any flash? If not, the biggest tip is to make sure you have adequate lighting and have fun! I would definitely use the A7III with the 28-75. If you plan on keeping it at 2.8, make sure you stand far enough to ensure everyone is in the same focal plane. If you plan on using Flash, let me know!
      I used a 24-70 mm and a 70-200 mm, both 2.8.

@@justinhatchvisuals I'm basically new on photography, mostly I do wild life photo for fun, this time my pastors aske me if i could do some mini session to do some fund raising and I said yes,
I've never used flash before , i can used one if necessary, the space we got available is a room 13feet x 10feet, we have the church area that is bigger, maybe like 20feet x15feet but we have to take all chairs and instrument out.
The lightning inside the church is not the best, and at the moment I don't have the budget to purchase any good lightning set up, maybe a Amazon flash on the 60$ budget price
      Thanks

Hey, did you use any fill light? what iso are you pointing at? whats the distace of the reflector?

    • @justinhatchvisuals
      @justinhatchvisuals  28 днів тому

@damarophotography just the umbrella and the ad300pro. If you use a large enough umbrella, you won't need a fill light.
