    As a gramma now, I thought birthdays have really gotten out of control for kids. TOO much stimulation, no wonder kids are so hyper, can't focus and feel intitled that all their wants should be given to them. You are doing it right, simple and easy.

    Does anyone here follow, Life with Beans. An Australian family with ten children. They have great, simple birthdays, at home, with a cake of the child’s choice. For gifts they have four gifts; something to wear, something to read, something you need and something you want. Simple, family time. The child also gets to choose an outing they want. Nothing spectacular but just special for them. 👍

      I absolutely love this idea! Birthdays are so big and so expensive and it feels like it takes away from what the child really wants or needs. I like the idea of going back to simple and thoughtful birthdays that are special occasions for family. Thanks for sharing I am eager to check them out.

      I have five kids. I stave birthdays off for as long as possible (🤣), so don’t really celebrate first birthdays - they don’t know, they don’t care - and second birthdays are veeeery minimal. In our house it is three or four gifts, very like the practice you mention, and something special to eat, be it cake, donuts - made or bought - but simple simple simple and nothing really junky ever. We don’t do parties or gatherings unless the child specifically requests such a thing, that has happened once (!), and the day is otherwise low key maybe an outing to a play park or cafe. We have very little money but I find without building birthdays up into some frenzy, they are always very enjoyable and low key and the kids love that! They don’t want anything else and love those special days. One thing we do that is weird to most and I don’t know anyone else who does it, is I always get each other child one small gift on their sibling’s birthday. I early on realised this helps spread the joy and allay jealousy and moodiness and makes the day happier for everyone. Birthdays are much anticipated but very happy and manageable events for us!

    Great Q&A! Thank you! One comment about our Canadian healthcare system (from a HCW)... although we don't pay at point of service for our care, we do pay heavily for it in our high taxes and very long wait times. There's definitely a trade off :)

    • @bingjenn
      @bingjenn 3 місяці тому +7

      I was going to say the same. Your healthcare is definitely NOT free. I’m in the states, and I’d bet Canadians pay way more than I do for services.

      Yes I lived in Canada when I was young and also UK when I was older. My parents much prefer the US health care. Yes it's expensive if something goes wrong but you will be seen right away and the doctors are great! I think if you have 5+ kids it might even out though I'm not sure. But for those with no kids or only a couple it's more expensive in Canada because you are taxed for it.

    • @JoyceMary89
      @JoyceMary89 Місяць тому

      @@bingjenn Even if you deleted it I saw your reply "YOU would prefer to pay more in taxes. Are you everyone? Now that’s the question. Not one person I know pays what you say we pay." First of all when did I say my opinion counted for everyone??? when? You read "I" didnt you??? IIIIIIII !!!!! I didnt say everyone, I said IIIIIIIIIII. Second... now you think that beacuse YOU or anyone YOU know doesnt pay that, means NO ONE pays that??? My brother paid $500 JUST FOR A VISIT with an endocrinologist for his wife... WITH health insurance. He also paid $3000 when his daughter was born, and that didnt count the Doctor's fees, it was only hospital fees. And that was WITH health insurance. In some states like NY you have to pay $1000 JUST FOR AN AMBULANCE!!!!!!!! I'm from Puerto Rico, and even though we're part of USA, healthcare is less expensive here... and I still paid $575 for a PET Scan WITH health insurance!!!!!! DARE TO TELL ME AGAIN people dont pay that... DARE TO SAY IT AGAIN. Before thinking writing this, you shouldnt looked up how much the average person is charged in USA. There are THOUSANDS of people that have healthcare debt because they have to pay by installments. No one, absolutely NO ONE knows when they will be sick. NO ONE is expecting a $500+ bill. But EVERYONE knows you pay taxes once a year and should save money for that one time a year, and that you pay taxes with every thing you buy. Is not the same, paying taxes you already know you have to pay, and have an unexpected $500+ expense. My brother knew of someone who moves to Sweeden and found a lump in her breast... do you know how much a mamography and a CT Scan cost her? 3 fcking dollars. Theres a reason USA is NEVER in the best 10 countries to live in, but Canada and Sweeden are every year. Just dropping that fact for you.

    I appreciate you blurring your kids faces and I hope this message comes across with the intent it is meant (with kindness) - blurring faces is a good step but the people you’re protecting your children from care very little about their faces and much more about their bodies unfortunately. I strongly believe children should be protected in every way and have their privacy. Xx

    • @rebeccaa.3121
      @rebeccaa.3121 14 днів тому

      Don't go overboard. I believe in avoiding extremes. At some point all of your children will go outside and then some pervert will see their faces and bodies. Do you want to hide them in a cellar? Sarah is doing a great job at protecting her kids. But at the end she is a mother and sometimes there will be children in her proximity, which is perfectly ok. This is also not a film set but their living space so it is normal for children to come into the kitchen from time to time.

    hi sarah. i know this video is older now and i don’t share a lot of the same views as you but that’s okay, i just wanted to say that so many of the words you shared in this video, that i believe stem from your personal religious beliefs, helped me so so much. i am in a place where my life has gone to nothing. i’m 24, i can’t take care of myself, i’ve been abused my whole life in various ways and now suddenly everything i had to live for and loved has all been taken away from me in the space of 2 months. it just keeps getting worse and i have been so frustrated at myself for being unable to take care of myself. to do the things i need to. to not be able to support the few people i have left in my life let alone myself. and so many of your words have been amazing reminders, sent to me i believe personally by the Universe, or God, or whatever you believe in or want to call your higher power. i needed to hear these things today. and although i’m not a christian i do have spiritual beliefs and this was a reminder to trust in them, and that i’m exactly where i need to be right now. and although i may not understand the reason right now, one day i will be happy again and will be able to see because i believe everything happens for a reason, including me coming back across your channel today and binge watching your videos while crying. so thank you and God bless

    I appreciate your comment towards sacrifice in intimacy. There is a strange cultural drive in men to not use condoms (especially with some Christian men!!) and I think this point is often overlooked. Women sacrificing our health with hormones shouldn't be the norm ✌🏻

    • @kitty19254
      @kitty19254 3 місяці тому +36

      I actually understood something different. Very euphemistic for sure (I definitely understand maintaining personal privacy but I think advocating for healthier pregnancy prevention is really helpful!), but I thought she was referencing something more like FAM (fertility awareness method) which requires knowing and tracking your cycle and not having sex during ovulation. Could be both/either! Totally agree about the injustice of women's hormonal birth control being the norm. Not a new idea, but I'm totally convinced it's a derivative of our historically (and in many ways currently) sexist, patriarchal medical field....not about it.

    • @kitty19254
      @kitty19254 3 місяці тому +12

      For anyone unaware, FAM is often vilified as being the same thing as the "rhythm method" (even still described as such on Planned Parenthood's and others website). It definitely isn't! It's based off an intimate knowledge (and testing if necessary) of your own unique cycle, not the arbitrary 28-day standard cycle of the RM which also relies on past information to predict future fertility as opposed to treating each cycle as it's own discrete function. :)

    • @isbllaechannel5561
      @isbllaechannel5561 3 місяці тому +23

      I'm pretty sure she didn't mean wearing condoms and she relies on God deciding if she will get pregnant or not. I might be wrong but that's what I understood. I respect her view but I also think that in 2024 we should give to science and prevention more credibility than "God's choice". That's just my opinion.

    You should move to New Brunswick! It is much more affordable to buy a home and you are allowed to have chickens within city limits. We have a wonderful Catholic community in Saint John!

    What do you do to encourage independent play from a young age? My daughter is about to be 1 and she goes through phases of playing independently really well and not, and I worry that I’m going to disrupt that, or let a little bit of a regression be a setback!

      I heard her talk about this on a podcast, but she said basically she makes sure to spend some focused one on one time with her kids before starting her chores around the house so they aren't as hungry for her attention and can play more happily on their own.

    When it comes to healthcare with Canada vs the US. As someone who has 2 chronic illnesses, I would prefer the US's healthcare, we don't have shortages in health providers, and I can be seen within 1-2 days or at worst a couple weeks out. This is important for someone like me. It's an expensive system, but at least I don't have to wait months, or years to be seen or to have a surgical procedure.

    You seem to have a beautiful surrendering to God's will! May I ask why you have not considered the Catholic Church since it is the church that Jesus himself established (Mt 16:18 + writings related Saint Paul and Saint Peter)? Denominations and such notions are very late in the Church tradition. What is understood as the Catholic Church is the source of the books in the bible, of Desert father teachings and many many miracles as well as apparitions from Jesus himself (Saint Faustine) and Mary. Saying this in all openness and admiration of your love of service and truth. God bless you!

      You can definitely carry a healthy baby while being skinny, you just have to focus on a nutrient dense diet so you don't become deficient, because the baby is drawing from your personal stores to grow. So you can end up with a very healthy baby and a very undernourished, exhausted mama. Lily Nichols' book "real food for pregnancy" is a great place to start if you have any concerns about your pregnancy nutrition.

    Can someone please tell me why birth control is bad? I thought it just stopped your body from ovulating.

    • @juliequates9529

      Our bodies are meant to ovulate and BC can negatively impact hormones. Lots online about negative side effects. The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility is very informative, every woman should read! ❤❤

      You need to ovulate to make progesterone, which is a very important hormone for female health. The Innate Wisdom podcast, the Fully Nourished podcast, and the Are You Menstrual? podcast all have informative episodes discussing the negative impacts of hormonal birth control.

      Birth control pill affects different people differently. I've been on it for over 10 years and have had zero side effects. Other people have horrible hormonal reactions. It just depends.

    • @jamiebrinkman9034
      @jamiebrinkman9034 3 місяці тому +1

      @rsartore12 I feel like her reasoning for being against birth control is deeper like she thinks it's killing life somehow. I don't think she is not okay with people taking it because it can affect there hormones. I took it for years as well with no side effects. Iv been off of it for years too and we are having baby #2 now we were just careful and planned everything for when we were ready.

    We have 2 children. An 18 month old boy and a 6 week old girl. We want 1 more when the Lord wills it, if it IS His will. However, we will have as many as the Lord wants us to have, whether that is 2, 3, or even 5 children.
