Rhiannon Silva My context is : I have several chronic diseases which are extremely painful and making me more and more disabled some of which might in the end kill me . people keep telling me that things Will be less painful if I could just look at the bright side and basically what that does is blaiming me for being in pain and blaiming me for not being able to be healthy or not deppressed or both and that’s not ok !!! And def not helpful! honestly I have fucking had it with people telling me to cheer up and telling me to do healthy stuff unless it’s the Ashley version which is not obnoxious it only makes me more deeply depressed - honest self deprecating humor that is the difference for me between killing myself and not . Because I’d you are depressed enough that peppy thing is feeling like mockery and pointing finger at the fact that you just can’t . So I think we need different things for different people the main thing in any case BE HONEST !
Anna Rehbinder I'm also depressed and when I was younger I relied on self deprecation to keep myself sane. Now that I'm older and have been through therapy I know that in the moment it's helpful but in the long run it really isn't helping you take steps forward. I totally understand disliking overly peppy "self care" that's not what I want content creators to promote. Because let's be honest people that promote that type of self care probably don't struggle with depression. But if you truly are depressed the way to help is to take care of yourself. That may mean taking a shower or changing the clothes you've been wearing for a week straight and that's okay. I totally get where you're coming from because I've been there. But just know that just because you don't feel happy doesn't mean you shouldn't at least try. I hope you find your light ❤️
Rhiannon Silva Think We are talking about diffrent things for me it is essential with humour and actually adressing the problems rather than as We say in swedish showing them under the carpet and pretending they dont exist - that actually works quite well with self care , meditation etc what I hate is the dont worry be happy - where people around or media basically tell you you are a failiure for being sick and tell you that if you Think positivly you Will be healthy - that is a total lie ! What is true However is that you need to pragmatically assess which parts of your life can be made better and by what ... that May in many instances mean medication, supplements, training, meditation, building up your self confidence but in order to do that you need to start by identifying im feeling like hell and I havent showered in a week and say ok im sick or deppressed or both and try to laugh with yourself at the status of things rather than add it to the burden of why you are bad and then figure out what the next step is but without humour and avknowledging what is its hard to get anywhere and affect profound Change because the moment you stop spending all your energy to keep up the facade everything crashes is My experience.
