Most of the music from the Weather channel back then was good but it is gone. But the one you hear in this evening weather channel coverage of Charley actually lasted all the way till recently because they played it during Harvey.
History repeated itself last week, and then some. The one last week was much larger in diameter. But they both were Category 4's with max winds of 150 mph. Charley didn't have the same type of storm surge, however.
Awesome video. Do you have any Frances Ivan or Jeanne coverage you can upload as well as anything from the 2005 season? I would love to see some new stuff
My family and I were in Punta Gorda in our laundry room in the eyewall the entire time. We could hear our house being torn apart. I had large limbs in my bed and our boys room was decimated after the AC unit picked up and slammed into their window. Everything was sucked out the window. We lost everything. People asked why we didn’t leave. Emergency Management told us to not evacuate because they evacuated Tampa because it was expected to hit there. It turned into Charlotte Harbor 3 miles from our house. Our youngest son develop diagnosed PTSD. My understanding is many children were studied by a FL University for the cases of PTSD. We are also the reason for the “cone of probability” because they got it so wrong.
Was Charley worse than Irma that hit about 18 months ago? And you're right, the forecast was wrong. I was visiting my grandparents in Bonita Springs at the time and yes, they said it was going to hit Tampa. But it didn't hit Tampa, it hit SW Florida. The WINK tv meteorologist Jim Farrell, however, was skeptical of the NHC's forecast and he nailed it! He went with his gut feeling that it would turn to the NE and make landfall in Lee or Charlotte County. Yes, Punta Gorda was like Homestead was after Andrew in 1992. Panama City, same thing after Hurricane Michael last October. That thing (Charley) wreaked havoc all the way to Orlando!

I wish John Hope had lived to see the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons.
I so vividly remember TWC looking like this back in my childhood haha
This is the hurricane that keyed the phrase hunker down
Nice to see you back!
Aww, thank you! Great to be back!

A rare hurricane charley coverage ad.
With the guy who later did the voiceover for Storm Alert promos from 2006-08. Most promos from 2004 would have Sean Caldwell's voice.
I survived Charlie!
