First off, I definitely enjoyed listening to this presentation. Many points he raises ring true.
And yet, No, I don't entirely agree with this statement. Its rhetoric is synonymous with the stereotype of Protestant flavored hyper-achievement and, in many cases, that of hyper-capitalism ideals. The issue he presents is not, first and foremost, how cam I be of service to family, community, Nature or the world. That has to be the starting point, or this planet is toast!
Rather, his underlying message is about that aspect of the human 'me', when coupled with hard work, determination and capitalist zeal, that can accomplish big financial goals-just as in his own [very interesting] case, And then, someday, we'll have "made it" and be happy, and can then afford to endow a library, grant scholarships, or feed the homeless on Thanksgiving.
As you know, the great contributors to human society (e.g., great artists of all kinds) and those contributors to Nature Herself (e.g., John Muir; Ansel Adams) functioned by passion, not cerebral calculation; not by living up to some transitory standard that will make them rich, famous and then generous for a while.
Consider inviting Gerald Powell of Rythmia-see the video "Mrs. Moon's Medicine". Or invite David Meltzer who was just interviewed on London Real (December 19, 2019). These guys made it big, although not of the billionaire class. One was philanthropic. Such amazing stories. Very candid and sincere. They got what they wanted, but not what they needed.
The idea that you and I are NOT born as an invaluable person who is perfectly endowed for the life-experience elected in the pre-birth planning stage is a mistake. That we must reject who we are today and become something better, as long as we're willing to pay a big price in health and family, is a Western notion implying the supreme value of materialism and ego satisfaction.

@@higherresolution4490 you are so appreciated! Right off top.... Making it seem as though being born into a tiny village is some hell that needs to be overcome, just....nah. I'm actually visualizing that as where I want and truly need to be! I do think the majority have pure intentions, although I've been wrong before. It just reinforces all the shallow, selfish, narcissism that we are drowning in. It's sad. I must say, I just have an intuitive or gut feeling that just like every other belief system of this genre is about that bottom line. The work harder model has failed since the beginning of time, adding eff bombs and enthusiasm change absolutely nothing. Regurgitating the same old shit. I always think to myself DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE. How many ads have you seen pushing this shit? I swear if you are on UA-cam for an hour you will see this shit at least a dozen times, the best part is how they contradict themselves. There's an ad that plays right before this video and the man is saying how the old work harder, longer, faster idea is complete BULLSHIT and this woman claiming to be an expert in meditation due to her 5 years experience, it would be funny if it weren't so pathetic. Ugh. Thanks for reading my ramblings!💞

@@itswhatyoumakeit6950 I really appreciate everything you wrote. Each point you make also represents my own observations for a long time! The Protestant work ethic is particularly fantastic for those who collect taxes, the healthcare sector, as well as for the social engineers who don't want a thinking public with free time to reflect and analyze what the heck is going in in their community. Thanks again for your comment.
Excellent statement: "... It just reinforces all the shallow, selfish, narcissism that we are drowning in." You bet. Everything is about "me" today. For example, "my achievements", "admiration by others of me", and, of course, "my inordinate capital" [which is all mine].

@@higherresolution4490 When the speaker told us, that every noon he got up to make a sandwich for his girlfriend and the only reason he did it, was shame, I was already done with him. Shouldn't it be rather "out of love", but yeah, I get it: this speech is not about his relationship with others, but to impress others. I could better deal with it, if it was not on Mindvalley, but on a more general plattform like TED talks.

@Jona Thon thoughts about ourself and our situation are just random pieces of mental data crossing our path. We can never really know they are true because our perspective always changes. So think less thoughts about feeling low and more about the incredible mind and body you have that can perform brilliantly. They are our raw materials in which to build our lives of purpose and meaning. We all have capacity to be brilliant in something (s). Life is the journey to find it, refine it and live it. We all have equal value and worth as humans here. Choose to change your internal dialogue with yourself and set yourself free to be your best self.

Lessons I learnt from this priceless talk:
    1. Face the self and outside criticism to let you know what skill is missing and needed for your goals. This will be your motivation in tough times.
    2. Develop those skill sets constantly as that will create a learning attitude in you and get you to creating awe in your fellow men/women and living a life of excellence.
    3. Decide the goal you want and the price you are willing to pay to achieve it in detail.
The whole video was one of the most awe inspiring talks I’ve ever heard.

"Can't Teach an Old Dog New Tricks" - I helped my Dad dispell this around 2001 and he picked up trumpet after a 32 year break and then BECAME BETTER THAN HE'D EVER BEEN. We can DEFY the norms. Really, owning your shit and flaws is the starting point of your transformation. This shit gives you instant clarity of what you truly are and then change happens. I owned my shit, I owned my failures, I owned my irresponsibility and didn't blame anything on anyone. But then I felt from that moment on I could only improve and not the other way around for being honestly real to myself. Stay true to yourself guys. Every fucking day I am getting better at this and so can you.

Everyone should substitute teach in an area of great need (I served in Madera & Fresno for 3 years and then taught full time in Madera for 4 years). When you are attempting to serve thousands of students over several years, the failures compound and you either face despair or your limitations to serve. To serve well, we must focus, limiting the things we give our energy to, and yet see things as they are without emotionally letting ourselves lose our footing. I think I learned more becoming a teacher while being a parent to very young children than anything else in my life. It's likely because the mistakes you make in real-time don't evaporate, they compound.

To get that good is a terrifying journey of self-discovery and confronting WHO you really are!

If I were giving this talk I would say one part differently though. He portrays his younger self as basically a loser and I don't see it that way. I see his younger self was extremely uninspired is all. He described the system he lived in as extremely mechanistic. He's a creative human being. There's the clash. He was brainwashed by the cultural environment in both his immediate environment and the culture at large. His natural youth and naivete left him vulnerable
