Rachel How lovely to see that you showed some of Bangor, as you made your way along towards the coastal path. I’m from N Ireland and live in a small coastal village, Ballyhalbert, which is just further along the coast from Bangor. The group I go swimming with is called Burr Point Buoys. Burr Point harbour is actually N Ireland’s most easterly point and you can access the sea from the harbour or using a slipway just beside the harbour. We normally use the slipway. We too have a mixed bunch and you’ll find many swimming groups along the coast. The coast line is called the Ards Peninsula and has the Irish Sea on my side and Strangford Lough on the other, which I’ve also swam in. You commented on how friendly everyone is and anywhere you go in N Ireland you’ll find the same. We are a very friendly bunch and generally the majority of us will always say hello as we pass by strangers. My husband is Scottish and he loves that even young people here will say hello. Lovely to have our part of the UK being shared ❤❤ Karen
Hi Karen, thanks for watching. I know Burr Point harbour at Ballyhalbert, I was there for a few hours on the weekend! Such a beautiful spot, if I'd have had a car and not reliant on a lift I'd have been in for a dip, the water was beautiful. Northern Ireland has so many swimming oppotunities with such gorgeous scenery. I can't wait to come back!
The castle and the walls are part of seacourt which used to be a teacher training location. You passed Jenny Watts cave on the way to Brompton as well. This path was my world as a kid. Anyone who grew up here in the eighties will remember being caught by the Parkie and his dog for riding bikes on the path. Summers were spent in Pickie Pool which was freezing and occasionally jumping off the pier. Long way down when the tide was out….Over to Paul’s chipshop for a chip butty with thousand island to warm up at lunch time. Miss those days, thanks for the memories…..
What a great swimming spot with lovely people. I wish something similar existed around here. Bangor looks extremely neat and those sea bins are very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
I had heard of seabins before, so it was really cool to see one in the marina, in action, maybe! I couldn't believe how many people were etting in the water in both swim spots and the mix of swimmers too. I real breath of fresh air. I hope you're enjoying the water 🏊😀
Rachel… the scenery!! The town, the streets, the church and its chiming bells, the architecture, and a CASTLE!! I’ve never seen anything like it. I cannot believe you went swimming with a castle in view. Like you mentioned, I was impressed with the infrastructure in that particular area to support outdoor swimming. My bestie from my uni days (going way back here) married an Irish dairy farmer and moved to Northern Ireland decades ago. I have never been to visit them… this inspires me!! I need to check out a map as soon as I finish typing this comment. I really look forward to seeing what you come across in Wales. I would go there just to eat Welsh Cakes everyday🤣. Thanks for this great video today. Please keep ‘em coming. Ⓜary💦🏊♀
Hey Mary how cool that you have an NI connection. It is a swimming paradise over there, with a swim spot at every turn. Not having a hire car this time got me out and about on foot to check out the local area. Wales will be lovely, May even fit in a waterfall dip! Hoping you get an early thaw 🌅❄️💦🏊♀️😀
@@EverydayAthleteRach I was hopeful for an early thaw… but on Monday we got a big dump of snow, and today it is currently -25ºc outside. Spring will come eventually… but it is definitely not “just around the corner”. I am looking forward to watching your waterfall dip in Wales. Ⓜary❄
What a great place to swim! And as you say lovely to see the guys swimming too! That sea bin is genius …. I do hope it takes off and is more widely used!
This video just popped up on my UA-cam. Sorry I don’t know who you are, but I’m glad you enjoyed your stay. I live in Bangor and it’s the best wee town. That wasn’t a castle. It was an old manor. Bangor castle was next door to the hotel you were staying at.
Hi Alistair I hope you manage to get in. It's such a friendly atmosphere and such a diverse range of people getting int he water from all of the beaches, it was one of the friendliest places I've ever been. Hope to be back in the not too distant future!
What an absolutely beautiful swim spot, reminded me of the coves in Devon where I used to swim as a child. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a sea bin at Lymington marina? As for places to come for a swim…..🤔 Southbourne beach!
It is a beautiful spot, love that efforts have been made to make sure you can get to swimming depth at all states of the tide too. Southbourne, I'm in. Message me on insta and we'll sort it out!
Great to watch you explore and meet friendly people. What a community of swimmers. I saw my first ever star fish on west coast of Scotland this week on holiday. Much smaller than yours though...
@@EverydayAthleteRach Ardrishaig. I have got to know a few locals who started a daily dip in lockdown. Thry let me join in when I am up there. This week sunrises stunning. If your work gets you west coast Argyll let me know!
I love your videos! I am part of a small Nova Scotia Little Dippers group. We swim off our beautiful coastal Atlantic beaches. is a bit chilly at the moment so they are very quick swims!
Currently using the Ulu which was developed by the Outdoor Swimming Society and the RNLI. At 20L it’s a bit smaller than my trusty Lomo swim run tow float rucksack but both do a great job.
Hi Rachel the swim in Bangor looks amazing.just a query,I went for my second ever swim ,we swim in a organised lake it was 5 degrees on Saturday morning, and I was really pleased with my second swim, with other swimmers, got out dried quickly, then we go get hot drinks, but on both my swims, when I get after about 10 minutes,on both occasions I’ve felt light headed,so wandering if you have any ideas please, whether this is not normal. Chris👍
Hi Chirs, well done on the 2 swims. 10 mins is the maximum I stay in in swimmers at this time of year. I have never experienced light-headedness but quite a few people mention it, so it's definetly a thing! 🏊😀
@@EverydayAthleteRach Hi Rachel hope you are well,I went for my 5th swim and I’m really happy,no light head this time,so I’m very happy ,probably my body is getting used to the cold water, looking forward to your next vlog.👍
@@chrisfigiel1150 that’s great news you’re becoming seasoned! I’ve been working every weekend for quite a stretch but that’s finished for the time being so normal service should return soon!
Thank you for lovely video Rachel and thank you Brompton Belles and Beaux group 🥰🥰🥰🤗🤗🤗
it's impressive how this man swims so comfortably without effort and without feeling the cold which hinders his breathing.!!
He really was impressive in the chilly water. It was great to have a swimterview with him.
Not a better gentleman than Derg to show you about! Lived in Bangor most of my life, great to see you enjoying it!
It was just brilliant spending time with Derg and co in their beloved swim spot. It's a real cracker and I'll be back!
Just watching this video and feeling very jealous. What an incredible area for swimming.
Such a belting location with so many options!
Very nice video ! Showing us the cute city , before your plunge. 💙💦🥶💙🧊
Aw I’m pleased you enjoyed the pre-swim tour!
Rach you're amazing, love your videos! Keep it up!
Thanks James, it's good to hear from you - stay positive and strong!

Goud Rachel ! Ici en Bretagne il y a très peu de gens qui nagent après la Toussaint ... je suis toujours seul sur ma plage,
