Edie Brickell's name is pronounced "Eedy Brick-kell" lol. The sample and message were the best thing about this song. One of the few hip songs I liked back then.
This is the joint I always think of first when someone mentions Brand Nubian. The sax is my favorite thing about the production, the sample is secondary, although still dope AF. Classic.
Sometimes when a reactors says "first time hearing" im just shocked...lol....makes me feel ancient....JJ you being a hiphop head amazes me you never heard this 1990 CLASSIC....this is not only probably this group's biggest hit but probably a top 100 hiphop song of the 90s....Great reaction
Sadat X is one of the most underrated MCs of all time. Edit: also. It’s not a completely positive message. “I’ll smack you with a hose filled with sand” ain’t great. It’s pretty misogynistic. They’re painting females with a brush as golddiggers. Still love this song. But you gotta recognize that shit too.
Shawn CT once again thank you. Now I can cross ❌ it off the list. This is my song right here SLOW DOWN....... SLOW DOWN I love me some BRAND NUBIAN 💯🔥👏🏿👌🏿👍🏿
The sample is edie brickell and the new bohemians, what I am. it Came out in 1988. When crack was ravishing our community Rappers came out to denounce crack. Unlike today's rappers where violence and drugs is glorified, My generation said it was not cool to be a crackhead. That's why groups like brand nubian and Public Enemy Had to be destroyed. That's why rap is now criminalized Buy the music industry. They wanted to put our children on the wrong path, and they have succeeded🤷🏿
@@Shagyamum My elders called your people devils. The nation of Islam called white people devils. Because of the devilish things you guys have done To human beings all around the world. You guys have a lot to answer for. So brand nubian did not have to preach hate, you guys earn it🤔
The music on the album is much tighter and this is the clean version so it’s not the one I know. House pain had two different first albums. Mainly their song Shamrocks and Shenanigans the one that was released and the one used in the video is weak compared to the remix. That was added to the album. I don’t think you reacted to that one. It became the second big song from that album. It’s funny. I’m still hoping you get a chance to react to the Hilltop Hoods song Live and Let Go. Cosby Sweater is probably their most popular song. Higher, 1955 and I Love it but check out Live and Let go. Even if it’s just you but they’re the OG’s of Australian hip hop. Peace Brother.

You’re knowledgeable about old school music I didn’t realize the sample for all these years

The Pete Rock remix is much better. It's the same song, but the mix/beat/sampling just pushes the song to a whole new level, I think.
Yes yes you’ll! It’s got that flow.
Now that's what I'm talking about
Wow, this takes me waaay back. Check out the track “punks jump up to get beat down”.
This was my jam in NYC. Love me some brand nubians. Listen to lords of the underground and coolihigh by Camp lo.

Movie: Action Jackson starring Carl Weathers ("Apollo Creed") 1988
Can’t go wrong with anything from this classic album ✊🏽
Always loved they sampled her, and a song that came out only 3 years prior. Btw she pronounces her name like eeeedie brick-elle. ✌

Maybe brand nubian had to be destroyed cos they preached hate against whites
