I am a Dinka polyglot living in Canada 🇨🇦 and I loved ❤️ this video idea. I watched The Dinka and Nuer challenge and I admit their are some similarities. 3,4,5 are similar to Dinka, I am a Dinka Bor born and raised in Khartoum.
@K R Actually, the story my elders told us is that we come from Ethiopia because we were fleeing violence, floods and insecurities. I think it is just a myth their is no truth to the story at all.
@@uniquepolyglot2022 Interesting, actually Y-DNA (paternal) tests carried out on groups of Dinka, Shilluk and Nuer did show a Cushitic component (e1b1b) but the sample size was small. Out of a sample size of 26 Dinka men, 15% (4 men) were of Cushitic origin paternally. Similar results were seen among the Shilluk (3/15) and Nuer (2/12) samples. However just testing a random Dinka is not enough since your numerous clans are of mixed origin. The Dinka have absorbed their neighbours just like their neighbours have absorbed them so testing for paternal DNA is pointless unless you do it on clan level. @@uniquepolyglot2022 What is the meaning of "bor" in your mother tongue? If you were Ethiopian there would most likely be remnants of their culture among your people. E.g. the Lango of Uganda still have Ateker clan names despite speaking the Luo language. The word for clan is atekere in their language.
😅😅 I am Alur and both your languages are connected to Luo. In our history (Alur but also Acholi since we're the same but merely separated a while back) its said we were anciently part of the Nuer Kingdom till we left and began migrating southward. Alur and Acoli (at least), were formerly the Luo Atyak group from the Nuer. The claim is that the name comes from King Uluo Atyak who lived/reigned in about 1010 till 1050. If you can ask around, you can try to find out if theres a King called Ngur in the history of the Nuer so we can confirm. Now for the Shilluk, its said they're the ones that led to the name Acoli being used in Uganda. Sir Samuel Baker found the Acoli language remarkably close to the Shilluk language he'd encountered up North in Sudan, and assumed they're the same. Calling them Shuli. Our histories are definitely intertwined. Alur and Acoli also call rain koth (kot for Acoli)
Luo from Kenya, it's nice learn the similarities, hope one day you organize one with communities from Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania etc it will be nice
A little similar to the Wolof that we talk about Senegal in fact we come from the Nile Valley which is the current South Sudan we have many similarities such as the physical some dialects some names and surnames it's impressive
I am Luo from Kenya . I can understand every word in Shilluk and most of Nuer. Amazing some needs to organise a conference for all these communities to interact.
Again, comparing words with strictly Alur as I'm not fluent enough to speak for Acoli and other Luo people, the words for a female depend on the context. A girl is nyaku/nyako. Nya/nyar means "daughter of" and most times, we qualify it with nya-**** mentioning either the parent or the clan or chiefdom. A woman is dhako. But we're normally more specific with saying dha-**** mentioning where she is married. So a girl belonging to the atyak clan shall be called nyar-atyak, while a woman married to a man of the atyak clan is called dha-atyak But then, we have a more specific term for a wife, which, like yours, is ceg. So my wife is cega, his wife is cege. That's where I've found it interesting.
For Rain my folks would say Dem Nhiall, instead of just Nhiall. and lightning I've heard Maar Nhial too. I was taught Maar just means Pop or explode. Like you could say, "Balloon ce maar". The Balloon has popped.
