hunters will be extinct in 10 years, we get charged an annual fee whilst the government shoots all what we pay for. Miss management of public ground and more and more under threat to turn everything into national park or handing back to Aboriginal people who then again lock the ground up. 😢

Then when that happens, most of us will be really pissed off and will think to themselves, this country isn't worth fighting for anymore, when the Chinese & the Russians come to invade us!!

Definitely confirms what I have been seeing in 2022/23 , less deer around dargo and Howitt plains area. Also the regrowth around corryong has ruined a lot of spots. I still have a few good spots to go, however they are generally all backpack access only.

I agree. After a childhood apprenticeship hunting rabbits's and fox, I started my sambar hunting in 1982. Mainly up on the Moroka river area before it became National Park. The country was superb. Then a few devastating fires turned so much of that country around Licola into thick hard to hunt rubbish. You could spend days up there and not see a soul. How it's all changed. I travel a long way now to hunt good open country, but even there now over the last three years that's even getting hammered. A local farmer told me a dog crew went through it and took 48 deer in one weekend. Think ive been lucky starting so long ago and lived the best times.

Mate, i don't even know what to say about this stuff anymore. Never have i felt like i need to protect my hunting spots more from these thermal cullers that call themselves hunters. Advances in technology does not help. I loved those younger years where we worked hard just to see a deer, and when we got one, it was like we won tattslotto and a wonderful memory burned into our minds forever. What memory can a thermal long distace hunter tell his mates or kids? "Dad, can you tell me the story of how you s shot that deer on the wall?"
Fact is that GMA want the thermal usage stopped, Parks don't, and want the deer gone. That's what i believe from what im seeing.
All you and I can do is stick to our true art of hunting techniques and keep showing the world it can be done,
Good luck in NZ brother. 🦌

Like you said the deer got smashed hard with the fires and choppers, but I reckon even right now the effectiveness of the choppers is reducing with the re growth.
I’m hoping in 5 or so years the deer will bounce back strong in those area’s cause of the re-growth & those honest hunters that put the K’s in will be rewarded like before.
Keep ticking along with the vids man, I’ve been subbed even before I started this channel cause your vids & no BS hunting style & thoughts about deer management have always been on point. Good to see you posting the patreon vids too 🍻

100% agree mate, everywhere is getting flogged out and it is definitely not like it used to be... even hunting in SA has changed big time, quality of stags is no where near as good and the pressure from poachers, hunters, torchers and choppers is really showing effects now!

Recon your right about the lack of prestige now for a good set of antlers. Too easy for any dumbass to get with the thermal optics. All that really counts to me is when I look at them antlers on my wall, I remember the hunt in great detail and know I beat that animal fair and square.
Cheers for getting this information, out there.

Culls, the huge influx of thermal, pet foot/meat sales has dropped numbers but also it's been wet as hell they have little need to move around so aren't being seen as often.
Still quite a few getting around Just need to put bit more hours into it

Yeah I’ve gone back to predominantly private property hunting as well since the fires. Biggest factor that I’ve noticed has been the culling programs that came from the post fire programs. 1 deer taken on public land in two years (and not for a lack of effort or trying) just goes to show the pressure and lack of numbers. It really does drain the motivation to get out and hunt but thankfully I’ve had good success on the private side of things so I’ll just stick to that. It is sad to see public land hunting go down the drain like this and other hunters having the same problems

All good points! Too many urban cowboys from the cities all hell bent on antlers armed with thermal and dogs to get instant results and not to mention, status. Big trend now these days im noticing more than ever is a lot of movie star wonnabes and influencer types since hunting is very big on social media today. With the culling, thermal, fires, cowboys, dog crews, increased social media types. Any wonder people lose faith... Just my thoughts. All the best for the new year.

Agree with your views mate been caught out before with uninvited hunters working over private areas I had access to and ruining it for everyone.
These thermals might have a role in pest eradication but are bullshit for those who call themselves hunters

Well not much has changed for me.. I’m always in the thick shit 😂
Well spoken but quite sad to reflect on..
On the upside once the weekend warriors get Jack of this “phase” or “fad” it may mean we see bigger antler in the next 7-10 years.. but ya can’t eat antler..so there’s that..
Maybe Bourkes old saying “if you’re on their face you’re in their face” will be one to remember for future times.. plenty of walking and shorter barrels..
    Bring on the wap!

Good day HD, last year was an all time low for me as hunting goes, what with one thing and another the inspiration just disappeared for me, but watching this vid of your views I thought na I ain't going to give it away, there are still areas that haven't been hammered up my way, only a few k's from my place the deer are still thick, I get requests from friends to come and shoot the deer that are decimating their gardens, unfortunately they are mostly to close to town, maybe the deer in my area are getting smarter and realise that being close to town they are safer, don't know but we have the same fucking ratbags fucking it for the real people that hunt as it should be done, fortunately the local coppers are right onto it ,and seem to be making an effort to get these cowboys for their illegal hunting shit. Any way mate I must say I was a little disappointed to see that this has maybe taken a little bit of the spark out of your enthusiasm for hunting, you have been a real inspiration for a lot of guys starting out and for some of us old timers as well, its a sad situation when we see how huntings is being fucked by the cowboys , but mate I'd hate to think that you would ever consider throwing in the towel, happy hunting in Fiordland brother, NZ the last frontier mate.

Mate , bloody heaps of us feel the same bro and after all the thermals and culls most of us just get our little spots and keep them private. Your channel needs heaps more bloody coverage especially educating the younger ones coming through. And the million sambar numbers was just created to justify the culls both on the ground and in the sky…..? Keep up the good work and content bruz I for one will be waiting for the NZ content , warm barrels mate 🤙🏻🤙🏻

Thermals are only legal on property so any one who sees someone using them in the bush should report them. The helicopter hunting is also illegal as it breaches the firearms act about shooting from a moving vehicle so it has me stuffed how they get away with it.
