God I remember watching him play on an almost weekly basis to a room of no more than 20, imploring him to tour and baffled why the world didn't catch on to how glorious and special he is. Alas, many years later the penny dropped. Couldn't be happier for him. A wonderful warm man
Because, like many great vernacular artists, he is initially abrasive and
'difficult'. Think Dylan and Beefheart for a start.
I honestly think Richard Dawson is one of the most important - yet equally unappreciated - artists of our time. Thanks for the upload, chilling performance.
Richard Dawson style is soo god damn unique with his incredible vocal delivery and song writing!! It's crazy to think how different peasant and 2020 are in atmosphere but they are such incredible companion pieces touching on humanity from medieval and modern times in such a definitive way. I hope to see him live one day and am excited to see where his unique ways gets him ❤
I was not expecting him to open with that. I’ve never seen footage of that piece live and it has absolutely floored me, 5 months after my daughter’s birth. It was the first piece of music she ever heard in the world.
I was hoping to see him in norwich arts centre, on the 9th of May, the day after my birthday. Now, everything's gone pear-shaped. I hope the date gets re-scheduled, assuming we ever come out of this strange, surreal, unsettling time. One really has to see him live, to bear witness. He is one of my all time favourite performers, and quite extraordinary. 🤩
Thank you for uploading this, I cannot get enough of Dawson!
Amazing
God I love this man.
Is that Matthew from Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs? The first time I saw Richard Dawson he was supporting PigsX7 in London. Absolutely mind-blowing show all round.
It is yeah, and the bass player’s in there as well.
shame the mix on this wasn't all over the place, otherwise it might have been a pretty great watch
beggar is a destructive listening experience
I was 10 minutes in before I even noticed this was in 360p.
Speaks for us doesn't he?
Eugene Chadbourne and the great Bailey, as the engine room Captain van Vliet at the helm: I can;t be more complimentary than that..
The Norwich Arts Centre date has been rescheduled, for October. I hope it goes ahead. We are all doomed! ✌️
It's funny, isn't it? Richard's solo performance of 'The Vile Stuff' is perhaps more powerful than this group performance. Maybe he was getting tired of performing it by this point?
probably because the guitar is mixed so low tbh
Don't know what the female backing vocalist was doing on ogre
Uhh have you not heard the original version? She sang it the same way on their
Looking like Gary Oldman in the thumbnail
