Intentionally done to save West Pakistani Establishment and Politicians who were not ready to accept the Mandate of the Public. Gen sb well narrated. Another commission was needed to know the " Facts n Reasons of separation of East Pakistan" Sh Mujib was allowed to contest elections on his 6 points. Elctns held in Dec1970 , immediately after notifctn of returned MNAs , asmbly session shud hv been summoned. But aftr much delay it was called in early March. Then started the real game plane. A leader frm W.Pak who had only 82 seats in NA started pressurising n threatening Yaya khan to postpone the session nd demanded Mujib, whose seats in NA were double than his , to had a power sharing agreement wid him ?? . A general poltcl consensus was definitely appreciable for framing new constitution , but majority cudnt be denied to come in power. What were the reasons or compulsions of yahya to postpone NA session, without fixing a new date ? Didn't he know what wud be it's consequences ? If Bhutto or any other W.Pak leader had been in the position of Mujib , what wud hv been his reaction in such situation ? What a little bit I hv studied, it was a well thought plan of w.pak bureaucracy, industrialists, capitalists, politcians to get rid of Bengalis . They all hate them. Poltcl leadership of both wings lacked vision, courage nd sencerety , so they cudnt come to a solution by dialogue. Hence military was made Scapegoat ?? Even a lay man knew that 2 ,3 divs Pak army was miserably insufficient to defend all its border wid India nd for internal security as well. Air force was non existent /made ineffective .It was totally land lock territory. The Bengalis had revolted , Indian trained n backed Mukti Bahni was in action through out the E. Pak. Our air corridor to E.Pak over India had been blocked. So there was no chance to fight n win. Now Q is why our Pol leadership n ruluing janta cudnt apprehended this situation nd come to a solution nd settlement wid Bengalis ?. Why we failed to get support in UNSC and why we delayed n wasted time to get ceasrfire resolution ? And whatsoever the resolution was passed, why didn't we accept that nd preferred to surrender ??!!!!!

General SB, agreed that Hamood-ur-Rehman commission had a limited scope with bias towards the military. But it's just one side of the picture. The truth is that politicians (Bhutto, Mujeeb), Generals, civil administration, they all are responsible for Dhaka fall. It didn't happen overnight and there's a history of injustice and deprivation of equal chances to people of East Pakistan that lead to this tragedy. Army should start holding their leaders accountable for their wrongdoing. For instance, what happened to General Durrani after he wrote that controversial book?

I as an Indian senior citizen find the General's argument that Indian soldiers fifhting besides the Mukhti Bahini killed the intellectuals appaling,unbelievable and ridiculous. The killings would have taken place much before the10th of Dec.1971. Will have to check other sources

Manekeshaw himself said after the war that Pak army (34000 personnel by number in Dhaka during 1971 war) fight extra ordinarily, but could not stop Indian advance towards Dhaka due to huge personnel number of Indian army (about 450000 & 200000 armed mukhti bahani ), total blockade of air, sea & land routes enforced by India prior to war, geographical isolation of East Pakistan & fighting in a totally hostile environment, managing 4700 kms of open border with enemy india. What ever happened in Pakistan during the last 75 years, that was only due to the mistakes of self centred & immature polititions. Where as Pak army is made scapegoat in every failed manouveranility affair.

Sir the other day I happened to see a DW report on northern Pakistan part occupied by India in 1971 war, my feeling is this is failure on 2 fronts, political and military why please let me explain,in 1965 reportedly large area of occupied Kashmir was liberated but same was handed back on political table, in 1971 as reported by DW large part of Pakistani Kashmir was lost to India and it was not solved on 1965 rules and on political table too it was conceded to India, common denominator of this episode is only one person who was present on both events.what is your take on this, and were we so poorly organized in 1971 that we have nothing to show compared to 1965

Intentionally done to save West Pakistani Establishment and Politicians who were not ready to accept the Mandate of the Public. The Mandate was clearly in favour of Sheikh Mujeeb ur Rahman who never wanted the Break up.

A leader frm W.Pak who had only 82 seats in NA started pressurising n threatening Yaya khan to postpone the session nd demanded Mujib, whose seats in NA were double than his , to had a power sharing agreement wid him ?? . A general poltcl consensus was definitely appreciable for framing new constitution , but majority cudnt be denied to come in power. What were the reasons or compulsions of yahya to postpone NA session, without fixing a new date ? Didn't he know what wud be it's consequences ? If Bhutto or any other W.Pak leader had been in the position of Mujib , what wud hv been his reaction in such situation ? What a little bit I hv studied, it was a well thought plan of w.pak bureaucracy, industrialists, capitalists, politcians to get rid of Bengalis . They all hate them. Poltcl leadership of both wings lacked vision, courage nd sencerety , so they cudnt
come to a solution by dialogue. Hence military was made Scapegoat ?? Even a lay man knew that 2 ,3 divs Pak army was miserably insufficient to defend all its border wid India nd for internal security as well. جنرل صاحب حمودالرحمن رپورٹ کا تجزیہ قابلِ قبول ہے لیکن عرض کریں گےکہ ملک پاکستان کو شروع سے اب تک ( 2023ء) قابل ،صاحب بصیرت، معاملہ فہم سیاسی ،فوجی ،سویلین قیادت نہ مل سکی، نا اہل سیاستدان،نا اہل فوجی کمان،بد عنوان سول قیادت،نتیجہ آج تک ہمارے سامنے ہے اس وقت بھی ملک انتہائی بحرانی کیفیت میں ہے۔قیادت کی اہلیت مشکل حالات ہی میں سامنے آتی ہے جب بھی مشکل صورتحال پیش آئی قیادتی فیصلے تباہ کن ثابت ہوے،خواہ1971ء ہو یا سیاچن ،کارگل معاملہ ہو،روس کا افغانستان پر،بعد میں امیریکہ کا افغانستان پر چڑھ دوڑنا یا اس وقت موجودہ صورت حال ہر جگہ ملک کے ہر شعبے کی قیادت ناکام ہے۔قیادت کی کامیابی برطانیہ میں دیکھی جا سکتی ہے ۔دوسری جنگ عظیم میں برطانوی سیاسی اور فوجی قیادت نے کیسے تباہ کن حالات میں اپنی قوم اور ملک کو Crisis سے نکالا ۔برطانوی قیادت نے پوری دنیا پر اپنی برتری ثابت کی جب انہوں نے دنیا کے ایک بڑے حصے پر قبضہ کر لیا۔اسی برطانوی قیادت کو اس وقت امیریکیوں نے شکست دی جبکہ ھندوستان کی نااہل قیادت برطانویوں کے سامنے ڈھیر ہو گئی ۔اہل قیادت کسی قوم کے لئے اللّٰہ کی بڑی نعمت ہے ۔

General SB, agreed that Hamood-ur-Rehman commission had a limited scope with bias towards the military. But it's just one side of the picture. The truth is that politicians (Bhutto, Mujeeb), Generals, civil administration, they all are responsible for Dhaka fall. It didn't happen overnight and there's a history of injustice and deprivation of equal chances to people of East Pakistan that lead to this tragedy. Army should start holding their leaders accountable for their wrongdoing. For instance, what happened to General Durrani after he wrote that controversial book?

The commission did a good job describing Lt Gen Aqleem Akhtar Rani and her brigade that marched to Gen Yahya drummer
Field martial gen. Manekeshaw himself said after the war that Pak army (34000 personnel by number in Dhaka during 1971 war) fight extra ordinarily, but could not stop Indian advance towards Dhaka due to huge personnel number of Indian army (about 450000 & 200000 armed mukhti bahani ), total blockade of air, sea & land routes enforced by India prior to war, geographical isolation of East Pakistan & fighting in a totally hostile environment, managing 4700 kms of open border with enemy india. What ever happened in Pakistan during the last 75 years, that was only due to the mistakes of self centred & immature polititions. Where as Pak army is made scapegoat in every failed manouveranility affair.
Yahaya Khan was responsible for the poor planning. The poor planning left the soldiers with no option other than surrendering. Niazi was stupid and coward. Salute to the soldiers who offered the toughest possible resistance.

1. The Pak Army, in E/Pak, Fought Very Gallantly. But they had no chance.
2. They were Thousand Miles away from their base.
3. I had 8 or 9 months to make my preparations.
4. I almost had a superiority of almost 50 (or 15 due sound issue) to 1. They just had no chance. But they Fought Very Gallantly.
5. And for the first 5 days India was losing (Despite all odds).
Ironically FM Maniksha, the most informed person of E/Pak, in his 23 minutes at BBC, not even mentioned a single atrocity by E/Pak Army. On the contrary, he praised E/Pak Army.

Sir the other day I happened to see a DW report on northern Pakistan part occupied by India in 1971 war, my feeling is this is failure on 2 fronts, political and military why please let me explain,in 1965 reportedly large area of occupied Kashmir was liberated but same was handed back on political table, in 1971 as reported by DW large part of Pakistani Kashmir was lost to India and it was not solved on 1965 rules and on political table too it was conceded to India, common denominator of this episode is only one person who was present on both events.what is your take on this, and were we so poorly organized in 1971 that we have nothing to show compared to 1965
