The ladies are air hostesses of Sri Lankan Airlines cabin crew. They are wearing what we call "Kandyan saree" with motifs of the peacock feather. The logo of Sri Lankan Airlines is the peacock. The attire combines the hues of the peacock feather, the sky and the sea around the island. In Sinhala language we call this type of saree "osariya"

I'd love to hear your reactions to my beautiful country, the island where life began on Earth. We have a written history of 2500 years and an undiscovered history of over 5000 years. Our country is the only one with two monsoon seasons in the world. Unfortunately, nowadays we are facing very difficult situations as a country. But Sri Lanka is the most beautiful country on Earth, so beautiful that even gods and goddesses would want to live here.
You can see all the religions, Buddhism ,Hindu, Islam, Christians..ethnic groups too, Sinhalese 75% majority who are mainly Buddhists , then Tamils who are Hindus, you can see a tamil home and their culture as well, we havent forget to include our minority who are tamil to include in this video as well, and their are muslims too. And christians as well(there are a christians from two ethnicities, Sinhalese Christians and Tamil Christians), Sri Lanka is diversed.. The Sinhalese Buddhist culture (majority) is very different and unique to Sri Lanka, and the sinhalese language is Indo Aryan language (same group as North Indian languages), and Tamil is Dravidian language, see in a small country how much diversity we have, BTW Sri Lanka in area wise not very small, its an big island, different climates in different areas, its the twice size of Taiwan.. And population density is high as well.. Its has the highest HDI and highest GDP per capita in South Asian region. And highest literacy rate too.. Its not as small as u think bro...

Yes, the blue saree (it's called an *osariya* actually, and it is a bit different from a saree - it has a frill-like thing around the waist, which makes the dress look like it has two separate parts (top and bottom), normal sarees don't have that) is the Sri Lankan Airlines uniform. The uniform has peacock feathers on it because the Sri Lankan Airlines logo is a peacock.
The osariya is unique to the Sinhalese people of Sri Lanka, you won't be able to find it in any other country that wears sarees.
6:46 - yes, they're fishing while sitting on bamboo sticks! This kind of fishing is unique to Sri Lanka, and it's called *stilt fishing*. A lot of travel magazines and websites use pictures of these fishermen to represent Sri Lanka.
8:54 - sorry, you're wrong! That's a Sri Lankan martial art called *Angampora* . Angampora was practised in Sri Lanka for thousands and thousands of years, (ancient Sri Lankan kings had to learn this art, the king's warriors used it, etc) until the British colonisers banned people from practising Angampora because they thought it was a threat to the British rulers. The art is now being revived in Sri Lanka.
*From Wikipedia* : The British administration prohibited its practice due to the dangers posed by a civilian populace versed in a martial art, burning down any angam madu (practice huts devoted to the martial art) found: flouting of the law was punished by a gunshot to the knee, effectively crippling practitioners; Angampora nevertheless survived within a few families, allowing it to emerge into mainstream Sri Lankan culture post-independence.
About the size of Sri Lanka, yeah it is small, especially compared to its neighbouring countries, but it has beautiful attractions, culture, history, food, nature and people to rival huge countries. In 1293, Marco Polo said "for its actual size, [Sri Lanka] is better circumstanced than any other island in the world.". I actually love the fact that Sri Lanka is a relatively small country!

During Kandiyan kingdome due to the culture effect of Waduga royal family of Thelugu's and relations of Kerala Sinhala ladies started to where this Saree. In Sinhala we call it "Kandiyan Sari/Osari" but base of it is Kerala.
That martial arts is Unique to Sri Lanka and I didn't understand the word you said, might be a South Indian word that we Sinhalese do not understand, BTW its called "Angampora" in Sinhalese, and the saree is Unique to Sri Lanka, only worn by Sinhalese majority, its called Kandyan Saree, In Sinhalese its called Osariya.. Sri Lanka has a written history for 2500 years, with all the names of the kings and ruling periods.. You can see some reservoirs in this video too which were built 2000 years ago by Sri lankan Sinhalese Kings..

I believe Sri Lanka is the only nation in the world that undertakes this type of fishing. I am not too sure of the name of this type of
fishing; this may be called "still fishing"? The white thin tower with the stairs that you saw will test how high you can climb in a
narrow space without getting dizzy.
