Whenever my dad would tell us to do something and one of us would say "do we HAVE to"...he would always turn around and say "You don't HAVE to, you GET to" with the implication being that it is a privilege to wash the dishes b/c we are blessed with food to eat, a privilege to clean the house b/c we are blessed with a home to live in, a privilege to help a family member b/c we are blessed with people who love us, a privilege to do homework b/c we are blessed to go to school and learn...

My memory was jogged this morning about more Words of Wisdom from my Daddy when we were planting garden...
"One for the Blackbird, one for the Crow. One for the Cutworm and one to Grow".
He explained to me that gardens are a lot like war grounds and seeds/plants are like soldiers. The seed/plant soldiers are attacked by all different kinds of enemies ( blackbirds, crows, cutworms) at all different times of their lives, and some don't live through the attack. So he said it was best to put enough soldiers in the ground that at least one will survive if we give them the tools they need (water, fertilizer, sunshine, warmth). Our elders are so so wise. Their wisdom is how we will continue to exist as a species.

Our Decoration Day is first Sunday in June every year. Always good to see family and friends each year. Mama, dad, grandmother and aunts and uncles all buried there. Traditions run deep in the South. It's what binds us as family.

👋♥️🙏♥️👋Hello Miss Tipper. My words of wisdom: No one can make you feel bad, you can only make yourself feel so. I hope that makes sense. I once told someone, you make me feel like nothing, then they said to me, I can’t make you feel that way only you can. I’ve remembered this ever since and I try to not blame someone else for my issues. Have a wonderful week Miss Tipper. When the new baby comes give him a little kiss and soft hug for me. I am not close to where my grandson and my 3 great grands live and I truly miss those sweet little guys. Anyway love to y’all and many blessings today and always. Jennifer

My mom used to say, "You've got to eat a little grit before you die," and "What doesn't kill you will make you stronger." The second one, some people may think that's new and it came from a song but I've heard that my whole life. Sympathy was not big in my family when I was growing up. I just remembered another one she said, "Put a little sugar in your words you might have to eat them."

If you notice any bugs or insects on your garden plants, immediately mix up a solution Of Dawn dishwashing liquid and water. The ratio is 1 tablespoon of Dawn to 1 quart of water ( 4-5 tablespoons of Dawn to a gallon of water ) . Spray the solution right on the affected plants to kill the bugs you see crawling around. The Dawn and water will also nourish your plants!

Our little church has 'Memorial' Sunday on the 3rd Sunday in May. That is the day we clean up the cemetery and the church, family members of people buried in the cemetery come with fresh or new flowers and pretty trinkets for the grass around for the graves. We usually have special music, blue grass gospel is most common, then we have dinner on the grounds after the church service, and sometimes after dinner we will have another hour or so of wonderful blue grass gospel! It is a day that is filled with tradition. We work hard to get the church ready for 'Memorial Sunday' nut it so special to see our little church full on that Sunday, to hear the sweet voices blended together in praise to God, and to share in the covered dish dinner on the grounds (or in the bed of one of the many pick-up trucks parked around the church)! Thank you for sharing your Decoration Day with us!

I grew up hearing Decoration Day and it was a good time, even if you are missing a loved one . The preparations started days ahead, then everything ran so nicely. My family women always made arrangements with fresh cut flowers and greenery they would collect. Some of the most beautiful arrangements I’ve ever seen. Of course they used silk arrangements too but the stellar ones were made with special love. Delicious food was a normal, most everyday. But, certain get togethers , always meant special dishes and plenty of food. What a blessing.

At the beginning of this video, I was thinking how pretty your hair looked, and then you said, “Oh, my hair’s a mess!” No, no, Tipper…….it looks beautiful and so do you! I’ve been wondering why you and Matt hardly ever talk about Ira, so it was nice listening to you talk about him this morning. To use your expression, it’s easy to see that you’re “plum crazy” about him! We don’t have little ones in the family anymore and I sure miss those times. There’s just nothing like having babies and toddlers around to rock and cuddle and read to. I hope you have many of those moments with your “little guys”! Hello, Tipper
Your hair is lovely. Your cookbook came in today. It amazes me how much there is in common with KY, my mom’s 29:59 30:03 family was from South Carolina. My paternal grandmother was such a fine Christian woman her values still stick and I will be 65 in July. I loved going to the chicken coop to collect eggs. It wasn’t a quiet walk Maw would be teaching you something example she taught me about tithing, I recall telling her I did not know what that meant..she told me about 10% , she used the example of 10 eggs if she sold all 10 eggs the money of one went to the Church. NEVER did I hear a cuss word from her. She would say “fiddle sticks” “oh sugar “ “oh my goodness “. She was a gentle soul. She never spanked me. Once when I was 19 I cleaned out my car and put all the trash in her burn can. There was a beer can or 2. The next time I went up to the farm. She came out to great me and said Thresa Carol let’s walk and talk, it was about those beer cans… I would have rathered had a beating. She asked me if those were my beer cans, I could not lie. The disappointment was evident on her face and she explained why she felt so strongly about this. Never again. I could talk to her and she listened and good advice. She worked so hard. A woman that I loved and admired her. Thank you for your UA-cam channel. You and your family are just wonderful.
    Thresa

I live a few miles from Berea, Ky and Everyone I know pronounces Cecil like you do. I know in England they say "Sessil" for Cecil, but maybe that's just the way the person you mentioned wants their name pronounced.
My Mom was born in 1913 in Clark County, Ky. and she had many sayings that I grew up hearing, but people younger than me wouldn't have any idea what they mean. One that comes to mind is "At least they didn't ruin two houses". (It refers to a couple who were both unlikeable people.) She believed in doing things the right, so she often said "If you're not going to do it the right way, don't do it at all". We always went to the cemeteries to decorate graves on "Decoration Day". I miss it, and it doesn't seem right to me not to do it, but I can't get anyone in my family to go.

My nanny always said all them old sayings to me and I say them all the time. I work with the youth at our church and they just look at me strange or laugh anytime I pull one out. Lol! Most of them have good meaning. There are so many i cant think of all of them and you may of said some. One I tend to live by is
●"There's more then one way to skin a cat" 😂 there's always more then one way to do something.
●"That's more useless then tits on a boar hog"
●" I'm Finer then frog hair split three ways" instead of just saying I'm fine, or that's fine.
●" Six to one, half a dozen another" meaning either way its still the same
●"That'll fire up a wet log"
There are so many more it's hard to think of them on the spot but I still say them all quit often and I hope my kids pick up on them and carry it on keeping the wisdom of the old ways alive!

Most of my flower garden is native plants and I grow most of them from seed because it's more affordable (including jack-in-the-pulpit). However, that plant takes about 4-5 years from seed to blossom. I definitely recommend finding a grower that has plants already established. I found a couple NC mountain native nurseries that would be worth calling to see if they have what you're looking for: Sandy Mush Herb Nursery and Natural Selections Nursery. They would definitely be able to help you decide what to get for a shady spot. Have fun!

Just getting to see your Monday morning video. Love the words of wisdom. Dad always gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and would say. If you speak to the king inside the man, the king will come out

Tipper, try this for pest control in your garden. Take a stick or a stake about 10" , wrap (like a coil) of copper wire around each stick and put the sticks in the ground around the plants in your garden. I didn't believe this would work, but it does. My garden is pest free since I did this. No chemicals, no spraying! I have used the same method for 2 years now.

Hi Tipper, Thank You for sharing the words of wisdom they are always good to hear and sometimes hard to follow.
I think its a nice idea to possibly have a small native flower/plant garden and it could be a good learning tool for your grandsons to watch them grow.
    I hope Y'all have a Wonderful Day!😊❤🙏🏻

My sister & I grew up in the country. Our grandmother would take us with her to town to deliver eggs she sold. Returning home on a very muddy, bumpy road, her old pickup would tend to feel like a bucking horse! She had a crippled right hand & would extend her arm out in front of us saying: “Sit steady in the boat, girls! Sit steady in the boat!” There are times in life I find myself saying the same. Just as Jesus calmed the storm we can sit steady as our storms pass by. 🩵

Binx, Olive Make The Videos So Sweet. I Hope You Find Granny's Flower For Her. She's A Blessing. My Daddy Always Said Can't Never Could. You Can Take A Horse To The Water But You Can't Make It Drink. Close The Door Your letting The Flies In. He's Dumb As A Stump. Before Going Into The House We Had To Wipe Our Shoes Off On The Door Matt. He's So Bright,They Have To Put A Bucket On His Head To Keep The Sun From Shining On Him.... 😂

When I sit too long and need to get busy I say, well, this ain’t getting the porch painted. We have had a gully washer last night and today. Also hailed at least 3 times, I’m hoping my tomatoes and peppers aren’t shredded. I need to plant pumpkins too! When someone is trying to pull something on me, I like to say, I may have been born at night but I wasn’t born LAST night. 😂. Your hair looks really nice today I think. Katie is looking so healthy and happy ❤. That Binx is a handsome boy. I love black kitties. Have a great week. TeresaSue
