She started with blonde and wanted to go dark so I gave her black-gray ombre awhile back. I had to pull all the black out of her hair and it's a severe color correction. Enjoy watching!

I was about to make the same mistake. My hair was a bright red and I have a box of black dye laying around that I was going go ahead and do this weekend, I had no idea it was that difficult to go back from black. This video just saved my ass, lol.

You talking about owning up is SO TRUE! I just had my hair colored recently (I'm a stylist that has been temporarily out of the industry) - I wanted it a darker/steel grey but I had red color in my hair, so she had to lift some of that out. She lifted too much and used a direct dye (in the color I wanted) that turned my hair bright blue instead. I ended up having to fix it myself bc rather than getting me in the next day, she said to wait a week. And instead of saying I'm sorry, I messed up, I was told that it looked awesome. If I wanted blue hair, I would've asked for it. I did end up getting what I wanted but I had to do it myself. And that helped me make my decision to get back into hair. Watching your videos helped me, too. ;)

i do my hair myself because most professionals i've dealt with always try to make something look too natural and are too afraid to do "guy tang" color. i started doing my own hair after wanting to go bleach blond, when no professional would do it for me. they were either too afraid of damage, or just wanted to put in some minor highlights.
i've been doing my own hair for years now. i went from black to blond awhile back at home, but doing it on my own was like at least a 6 month process (as i was trying to do it with as little damage as possible on very NON virgin hair)
it's amazing to see you do this in one day with so little damage! i was able to color correct my own hair with a very similar experience to this, but i had been bleaching/cutting/dying my own hair for over 3 years at that point- and had learned so much on my own from having vivid and pastel colors for so long. it really is something you need experience to do it properly.

Watching your videos has taught me so much. Most importantly patience. You really take the time to dedicate yourself to each individual, you don't just rush you clients out the door so you can fit in as many clients as possible.
I've have two different colorists destroy my hair ( and I only had highlights! ) before I lost complete faith and decided I was going to read and learn everything I can about hair care and coloring on my own. Your videos are my favorite to watch and learn from because their never the same products, results, or techniques. I'm not a professional by any means, I'll stick to my graphic design job, but I now have healthy white blonde hair down to my back, and color all my friends hair ( even if it takes 4 hours! ), and I can say we all thank you for the time and advice you've put into your videos, and all the hair and money you've helped us save.

Thank you very much for putting this up. 5-6 hour color corrections aren't ever easy but if you explain things to your client, they'll be ready for the wait and ride it out.
LOL you goof. This is a fabulous video. Makes me appreciate the process. Especially after a recent visit to a woman who has no business touching peoples hair in the first place. And the worst thing is she KNEW WHO YOU WERE, she heard about your channel and she still managed to screw up my hair. This is exactly what I have been trying to explain to my classmates in hair school. When experimenting with hair color you have to be patient & you can't freak out but you do need to understand the different levels of color hair goes through in order to get to blonde especially coming from black. Plus you make it so much fun!!! You're awesome doll! 😊

***** hello love read your comment and I'm sorry of what happened to your hair i would recommend to give it a rest dont use to much protein use hydrating mask when you see it's starting to get healthy see a hairdresser professional not the one you went before get a few quotes and recommendations see how they treat you and make sure you feel comfortable first before going ahead with the process to fixing your hair you wouldn't want to waste your money again good luck sweety all the best.

Guy I was a black level 1 before and I do know how hard it is to go back blonde it took me a year but I also heard (red) what I am now is 2nd to going black with trying to go back to blonde-is this true? any tips on how to get there quicker? I was thinking of going to a light brown or carmel brown reverse ombre effect and gradually go back blonde?

I love your little monologue about the relationship between the client and the colorist and how we both need to be responsible. Because that is soooo sooo true! I feel lucky that I have gotten a great cutter and colorist that know my hair and know what it should feel like and I am super comfortable with to try new things because I know they listen to me. It sounds like you do the same. Your hair should be fun and make you feel good, but you have to be responsible about it. And having the right people to help you get there is crucial. Subscribed because I have also watched a couple of your vids and I love what you do with hair!
Really, having watched several of your videos on your channel, I love your colour work.I adored the black-grey hombre, that was quite unique and totally unlike anything I have seen before. Alice is sweetie, it must be great to have a friend not only with such trust in your obvious talent but with the hair to play with! I also know that Asian hair is gorgeously straight, strong and thick - I have Northern European fine blonde wispy hair that would NEVER take that amount of processing, it would break, then fray, then literally dissolve... as a friend discovered. So I take vicarious pleasure in watching the "organic process" with Alice's tresses. Keep up the great work - as they say " only a hairdresser can do what a hairdresser can do". How true.

Guy Tang! Thank you for sharing this video! i LOVE color correction but after 30 years in the business i STILL sweat bullets when it comes to color correction! Probably because i have NO CLUE how long it's going to take and the price my client will end up paying in the end. I LOVE how you say "i don't know!" and "we will have to see" because with color correction like this it really is a crap shoot! LOVE how "real" you are! thanks again for sharing!

If you guys want to go dark. There are semi permanent browns and black dye. It will bleach out easier than a demi-permanent. I had blonde hair, dyed it black with ion semi dye. And two weeks later bleached it back to platinum in 30 minutes and not much breakage/damage.
I love this look! but I have a real problem with your comment about diy hair... it's not always about time and money, I do my hair myself with no qualifications apart from what I've seen and read from other people and I've always had gorgeous results and never seriously damaged my hair. I honestly wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair, I know everything about it (obviously) and it's limitations and I absolutely wouldn't want anyone to do any colouring to my hair if they didn't know it well as I wouldn't trust them to not push my hair too far and risk damaging beyond a reasonable level and I imagine this is the case for a lot of people who do their own hair! So yeah just don't make assumptions about people who do their own hair.. :)

AMAZING COLOURS , personally i would have used a colour B4 to strip the black as it dosnt damage your hair at all and then lightened if required just to keep the hair a strong as possible

This is by far one of my favorite transformations
Don't be mean about home hair colourists, I CAN and regularly DO achieve this kind of colour using home hair colouring and I'm not the only one. Minimal to no breakage and it doesn't take me 9 HOURS! Also, you say around the 3 minute mark that you hate when stylists say "It's just hair, it grows back" and then at the 9 minute mark you say EXACTLY THAT about your client's hair in regards to breakage as well as the end-result. You should probably also know the difference between evening out colour when it's different tones and just lightening up the lot (you said you did the first but just did the second).
If I had to choose between letting you touch my hair and shaving my head, I would choose bald.
I put up the comments that I did, because in my personal opinion and experience, following the information in this video could cause a lot of people to waste time and money on their hair so I'm offering a counter opinion. While the personal attack against Guy Tang wasn't as noble, I just wanted to remove a little credibility to encourage critical thinking. My comments aren't going to put Guy Tang out of business, so it's not too much to worry about
Sarah Leach He said at the beginning to not do it at home. Relax, he's just stating his opinion in a stylist's and client's point of view which is nice because I barely know any hairdressers that actually listen. The model's hair was first colored blonde and then black. Black dye is hard to actually fix, you have to seriously go to a professional. Here, he didn't rash things and did it in a way that it won't destroy her hair ya know because as I said black dye is hard to fix. It's not like he's nagging his model why she colored her hair platinum. Also, it's not like the model is unwilling and uncomfortable in the whole video through the process because she probably knows how hard it is. So yeah if it is so easy then put yourself in his shoes, what would you do?

I can totally appreciate your thoughts on respect and a relationship. As a long hair gal (My hair is about 3ft long and well maintained. I love to do elaborate braided up dos and get mega fancy sometimes.) I like to work with people who respect my decision to stay long. I once saw a fantastic colorist a few times and the last time I saw her I just... refused to go back.
My hair is long, but far from boring. I have the tips dyed a vibrant red and I love the way the color weaves in between the dark and how it pops in the braids and twists I do. Her dismissive 'well, if it doesn't work out or you get tired of it, you can chop it off. ' just incensed me. Gurl, did you forget I want long hair without extensions? (I have no patience for upkeep)
The offhanded commentary just upset me. And its not like I was going from like blonde to blue to black and to purple. I simply was changing the color placement to an all over versus the peekaboo. :(

A lot of people don't know this... you can use the barbel for a nipple piercing. They are considerably smaller, you don't have any rubbing or discomfort. However, some people's tongues are too big for the smaller barbell, so it isn't always recommended. I had mine pierced for 3 years and just took it out last month! I had zero damage to my teeth and gums.
Maybe you can get it pierced again after you heal!! :)
I managed to go from a natural 2-3, to a bleached level 10, then dyed it jet black, then bleached it back to level 10 (regrowth went from a 2-3 to a 11)... hearing you say it's impossible makes me think that greek hair must be hella strong for me to still have my full head of hair left
I think as a stylist myself that the color looks awesome even knowing how colors are with that type of lighting but it is very awesome that you do mention to the viewers on here that PLEASE DON'T TRY this at HOME it could be a very bad decision. Thank you very much for sharing all of your tips of the trade with me(us). My clients here at home in MN have loved the photos from some of your colors and want to try them and I am very excited to get down with the fun hair activity. :)

You know what's up. I'm not a professional, but I understand this as an avid hair color enthusiast hoping to be a hair color specialist. That's how I get a solid neon hair color without weird gross tones :P I take about a week to get my desired shade of blonde when I head for platinum. Just so I don't get too much breakage..
