why didn't you focus?
Love your videos. I’ve decided to buy my fist telescope and have found tour videos to be super helpful. I was thinking evolution 8. Use case is for a house I have in the Caribbean on an island with under 300 people so no light pollution. Nearest street light is over a mile from my house. Anything you would recommend I look at instead? Thanks for any thoughts.
Very cool, thank you for the video!
great video mike. getting my asi plus today. wish me luck!
Amazing, I'll wish you clear skies too! We all know new astronomy gear comes packed in with clouds ☁️ 😉
Mike can you tell us what camera you used in this video?
It’s an ASI294MC. The uncooled version. EAA doesn’t require additional cooling.
MIke - somewhere in one of your vids, you showed (I think) a MacBook hooked to your iPad. What was that for? Images? (BTW, thanks SO much for all your help - moving me along slowly! ASI Air on order now. You should setup a "Thanks $" button for more tangible thanks!
I just use my MacBook to record my iPad’s screen to share here :)
My MacBook is an Intel Pro - will that share pics from (old) iPad Pro?@@MikeLikesChannel
You make it look too easy! Thanks for the videos. In this video, is the ASI providing tracking input, or just the Celestron mount by itself? I've asked my SO for a ASI Mini for Xmas.
Great ? So ASI Air doesn't do any tracking computations, the mount handles all that... ASI Air just asks the mount to track at the sidereal (or lunar) rate.
hey mike what kind of finderscope bracket your using to hold the asi air onto the telescope and where did you get it? I bought one from ebay but its abit to big for my asi plus's mounting base to slide in.
agenaastro.com/agena-cross-slot-dovetail-mounting-base-finder-xfurb.html this is the one, doesn't include the mounting screws though... I seem to remember buying some metric ones for it locally.
The stars and uranus have a black circle in the middle , is that from hyperstar or focus or something else?
I may have to pick your brain in the next few weeks. I ordered an 8” Evolution Edge HD for the family for Christmas. It’s been waiting in its packaging in the closet since before Thanksgiving.
Awesome, feel free to join us on Reddit at /r/telescopes or CloudyNights too! That's gonna be awesome, fantastic scope!
@@MikeLikesChannel I found out UA-cam is automatically deleting my comments. Did you happen to see that meteor tonight?
hey make do you get any delays slewing from left to right and vice versa using the evo mount? I have a slight delay with mines. I wonder if im having an issue with backlash.
I haven't noticed that, but yeah sometimes the weighting plays a factor. I like to position my scope in the vixen plate where if I set the altitude clutch free, the scope stays level without sinking. Doesn't always work depending on what accessories I've got installed, but usually "close"
So once you’ve focused do you have to re-focus?
Generally not, but for a particularly long session where ambient (and your mirror) temperatures are rapidly falling, sometimes it does become necessary.
@@randallpatrickc with a Bahtinov mask focused on a bright star, yes.
Did you use “flats” and “darks” ? If so how?
Yep, ASI Air software includes that routine to capture bias, flats, darks. Helps some.
Im falling in love with this scope. Ive not owned a telescope since i was much younger. I really like how simple the setup is with built in battery etc. Thanks for showing us all the add ons you've got and taking us through those images. It looks like its got a lot of potential. Certainly enough for my desires.
So glad to hear it. I've owned a lot of telescopes... and yeah, the C8 is my fave by far. In a single night, I've done Hyperstar EAA, visual on the moon with my kids, and some f/6.3 photos of the moon too!
Schmidt-cassegrains are the most flexible of all telescopes. And it fits in my car with both my kids, unlike my Dob.
@@MikeLikesChannel sounds good. I'd like to be able to view all sorts so sounds like the C8 will be a good choice. Thanks for the feedback 👍
