I am certainly in the "obsessed with cotton candy randy" camp!
But on a serious note, I think this was a much-needed podcast as I too have seen so many comments where people criticize CCR or Josh or even Rhett as people for the characters they play on GMM.
While everyone wants to feel connected to Rhett and Link, and like they know them, it's still a comedy show that does bits for comedic purposes. If everything was unscripted there wouldn't be the same flow, and if everything was all the same type of humour day in and day out then it would stop being as funny.
We've been lucky enough to see Rhett and Link, and GMM, grow over the years and evolve and with it the humour has always changed. One of the things I love most as an older viewer (30 years old), is that there is a lot of fun, clean, family-friendly jokes as well as more adult, sly points. There is also so much of the content that is silly and immature and wacky, but that balances perfectly with the more cynical, dark aspects.
When Rhett mentioned that the comments make him feel like his participation and role in the show is unwanted, that was hard to hear. It should be obvious that it is a bit. They have a friendship that has lasted a lifetime, and clearly, they know each other and play off of each other in order to create this mythical world.

Not much of a smart boi comment here, but thanks for saying what was (probably) on a lot of mythical beasts' minds. I'm only 18 so I've practically grown with GMM since season 4, and have always thought something like this needed to be said.

Rhett is the kind of person I'd be friends with IRL. He's witty, funny, sarcastic, introspective, sardonic, calm, collected, and interpersonally effective. I see him being the popular guy in the room that everyone likes, because he's so cool and laidback.
Link is silly and goofy. He's also very intelligent. He's a planner, and seems a lot more organized and calculated IRL than Rhett. He cleans and organizes for fun, for God's sake! He's probably more anxious and uptight IRL than Rhett. So, I love the both. They remind me of different tidbits of myself.

Been a mythical beast since 2013, and this hour+ conversation is one of my favorite pieces of content you've made. As someone who routinely analyzes your content just as a hobby (not through commenting online, I just mean in my head throughout the day) hearing a candid conversation about the patterns in GMM was not only insightful, but also rewarding! Just the other day I was thinking about why Rhett is always the one who hosts the information segments, I find things like that fascinating. I met you guys at a meet and greet at Vidcon Amsterdam in 2017 (I was the crier from Wisconsin, though you probably don't remember) and between that and attending your Q&A, it actually made me realize a lot of the things that you talked about in this podcast, namely the differences in your GMM personas and how you act in person. But those differences didn't really take away any of the magic for me, it just helped give me a more nuanced view of GMM. This is a topic that I find myself thinking about often, and I honestly could go on and on about! So to hear you two discuss it was a lot of fun. I actually never comment on your videos despite how much I think about them, but I felt compelled to comment on this one since I think Rhett is right; people who enjoy things usually don't say as much compared to when people dislike something. So I just wanted to say, I am here and I loved this! I appreciated it, and will continue to ponder it...

What people are complaining about is like saying speakers shouldn't practice their speech before going out on stage, we should see the "real them", unscripted. That would be horrible! They'd be a nervous, stuttering, unprepared wreck trying to fumble their way through their speech. Preparing for something makes it more entertaining, more concise, and more to the point of everything it should be.
You want to go to a concert where a band has never practiced together before? That would be ridiculous. The argument that a practiced 'band' is inauthentic doesn't hold up. The argument that you guys are being 'inauthentic' because you prepare for the show also doesn't hold up. You guys just keep doing what you're doing, and my wife and I will keep watching -- you guys are getting better and better!

As a addition to what link is talking about at around 33:33 , one of my favorite parts of the show is the fact that each episode shifts between different types of comedy. It's a morning show first but mixed in it has aspects of challenges, top5s, lists, Special guests and events. Each time touching another funny bone, And that's only some of the mythicality.

    • @EdwardENigma-ry1io

It truly feels like a twilight zone type show for comedy. Running themes and gags. But situations, characters, crew, and daily themed videos are all within a canon.

I'm 33 years old and you guys are the best thing since Rocky & Troy and Bob & Tom. You all at the set and ANY writers that have anything to do with GGM(X2), deserve way more credit than you get. Comedians such as Mitch Hedberg and Tim Wilson would love Rhett & Link. Keep up the good work guys!

    3. Ear Biscuits in particular is my favorite. I love how casual it it and it’s still so entertaining. I’ve listened to several episodes multiple times. I listen almost everyday. It helps me so much, especially before getting on a plane and during the fight. Anytime I’m feeling anxious I listen to Ear Biscuits or watch an (or several) episode of GMM. Y’all are great, keep doing what you’re doing. Thank you for doing it.

Rhett is not mean LOL. At all. He's sarcastic and witty in his own way. I appreciate and relate more to Rhett's sense of humour than Link's (and this is coming from someone who likes Link as well). But IRL, Link's high energy goofiness would probably burn me out real quick.

I do think Rhett is really funny, especially his wittiness, but sometimes his cockiness does annoy me. I personally just don’t think it’s a great character trope unless it’s done well. For me I think Link’s cockiness/ big ego works well because he often doesn’t win so it’s ironic, however there are times when Rhett’s cockiness works and isn’t too predictable

For me the last 30 minutes of EB is true therapy, it always makes me think of what I should do in MY life and how I should act in my day to day interactions, sure it’s not funny but for me the fact that it goes from me laughing to me thinking makes the experience ten time better.
The same goes for GMM itself, I often watch your videos just to feel better when I’m down and that helps me detach myself from my stress and just live for the moment.

I love Ear Biscuits and hope this show has a long future. UA-cam is so fascinating to me; how viewers develop legitimate feelings of caring for a character(s) similar to a fan's relationship to a celebrity. But unlike the typical fan/celebrity dynamic UA-cam allows people to voice their feelings to their subjects in ways that only close friends or family would communicate. Anyway, good content! Thank you!

My husband and I ate at a japanese restaurant while on our honeymoon. Our wedding day is around mother's day. So when we got into the restaurant, obviously dressed up, the hostess told me "happy mother's day". I responded, "oh thank you. But I'm not a mother. We actually got married yesterday". She then told me "oh, happy ladies day!" in her adorable accent. Fast forward 2 years, we decided to go back on our anniversary and the same lady greeted us and said, "happy anniversary!". It was nuts. A few years later on a day beside our anniversary, we went back. We brought a friend of my husband and I's. This friend is a bit overweight. When we walked in the hostess said, "oh you're back! And you bring friend. You bring BIG friend." Lol. She's my favorite person. Lol

I love the intense, conscious examination of what makes you tick, your motives etc. I don't find a lot of people who think deeply like that. I follow a bunch of channels/podcasts etc, but I usually get bored for a while. Not with Ear Biscuits!
Some people have a difficult time with humour that is "mean" because they have been raised in a household or spent a lot of time with people who make digs, then say they're joking, but they keep doing it because they really are getting get done sadistic pleasure out of it... and it happens so often they begin to doubt they can even tell the difference... It turns any "mean joke" into something that leaves them confused because they don't know how serious or not the jokes are, and have difficulty recognizing the line between the two.
