Once a smart runner, always a smart runner. Bekele showed again when you keep your ego in check you can come home fast, amazing performance age 41. Lemma too good on the day and as predicted a 2hr 2min or there abouts winning time. It is going to be super exciting to see if anyone will go out super fast in Paris next year to try and grab glory instead of the usual tactical race.
I love when there is no tactic and just pure speed. Men went crazy for the first half. It seemed that everyone will crash on the second half but lema did not slow down. Bekele was smart to not follow the pace because it was suicide
The race organizer set up after the race a 1M euros bonus for any world record broken in Valencia marathon from 2024 onwards. Expect great things from my city 😊
I absolutely love Kenenisa Bekele, I knew he was going to come back into form, he just needed time to recover and build his base, he is legendary and such an inspiration!
Valencia is a beautiful city. It has everything: beautiful beaches, stunning architecture, mellow climate, influential performance arts, Agua de Valencia, the birthplace of paella, and a super fast marathon.
Super shoes coincidentally align with the blazing fast times of past 5-6 years. Doesn't matter really for excitement and congratulating the young guys - but i do think it's 2-3 min advantage that many older greats like Kipchoge and bekele would have smashed under 2 with in prime.
@@npSharkiemaybe your right but not sure. The money and fame of marathon has increased a lot in the past 5-6 years. Now the best runner don't go on track but on marathon so that's why there are better times
I live in this wonderful city and yesterday was the first marathon of my life - all I will say is, if all marathons were like this, I would be running them constantly! Although I probably managed to make my debut (and finish!) in the perfect conditions of Valencia.
Nostradamus the national record of Spain was broken. The greeting the Spaniard received was worth watching for. Worth mentioning it wasn't only the Elites who were running faster. Let us know if any other marathon in the world gets more than 5000 people under 3h!! I was there for a third year in a row.. and the field is so competitive that is unreal!! 40 people under 2:10 132 people under 2:20 561 people under 2:30 5168 sub3
Given that Kevin Kitum in his first marathon in Valencia ran 2;01;53,it would have been a real treat to see him against Lemme in this race.Probably one of them would have broken the world record; favoring Kitum.Of course Kitum having ran the chicago marathon would not have been available, but I think Valancia organizers would have loved for him to come back.Kitum will represent Kenya in the Olympics next year so its unlikely that he would run Valencia 2024.But hopefully the two can meet in one of the major marathons.
Just another example of how hard it is to run an incredible time consistently........enjoy these sub 2:02 marathons as I don't think you will see any of these guys becoming the Marathon King.......I think when it comes to running this kind of time it really comes down to whether its YOUR day or not.........and some magically random "thing" happens to allow one of them to push through to this kind of time........and therein lies the problem of breaking that 2 hr barrier......not saying it won't happen, but I think it would happen much easier if there was a combo or trio all pushing each other to the very finish.......the problem to me is that I don't think we will ever see that happen.......but, of course, anything is possible.......as I'm just theorizing here obviously.....

I love that almost all African runners always acknowledge God in some way when they finish their race. It happens less in cycling maybe runners are more humble and pious?
This is great and all, but for those interested in overall wellness and longevity, smashing a world major marathon is useless. In fact, repeated bouts of super high mileage has detrimental effects on the human body. I’ll challenge any of these guys to see who’s still running period at 90. A marathon isn’t the ultimate test of endurance. LIFE itself is.
Personally I wouldn't say Kenenisa was very happy with the result, he is built with hunger for winning, and for him definitely a M-40 WR wouldn't say more than a race win.
Update - at 6:44, we wrote that the previous master's world record was 2:01:10, but we meant to write 2:05:10. Appreciate your understanding.
Who holds the masters non-carbon shoe world record? lol

I am so happy to see Bekele finishing so strong! Huge smile from me. He has been struggling a lot lately, but we knew he had it in him! ❤️😊
He cutting.. And his shape pointed for marathon race
Shame on anyone who ever thought Bekele was done and should retire. The legend lives on.

Breaking 2.02 is amazing, but breaking 2.05 at 41? That's truly special.
Let’s hope bekele break 2:04 I’m rooting for him .
How does Cheptegei run under 2:09 and not even crack the top 30? Valencia had a deep field!
2:09 is consider very slow
For their standards 😂😂😂
Go run a 2:09 marathon!! With that pace 2'50" I can only run 300m 😵💫😵💫🤣🤣🤣
2:09 at this level is really just average.

Nice video as always. You've a typo on the Masters World Record slide, Abraham's time was 2:05:10

If Kiptum raced here instead of Chicago, 2 hours would have been broken
Next he may do 3, Rotterdam, Olympics and then goes for that huge money in Valencia.

The listed time in the video of Tadesse Abraham of 2:01:10 is illogical and wrong. It should be 2:05:10.

Lemma just missed out on his national record by 7s. Valencia was great again. It has by far the most dense field in the marathon world.
Cant wait to watch this!
Text on the previous masters record at 6:48 is incorrect.
Lemma joints the 201 club not 202. But good stuff. Also Bekele is a beast

It really was a spectacular race I honestly thought they are gonna get a new WR but it's tough man!
I really hope these athletes are running clean. I mean, how did Joshua run a 2:08:58 and place 37th?
The more they struggle in marathon, the more I confident they are clean
Cheptegei can run significantly faster. Just did not judge it right today
Such a gutsy athlete like in Cross Country champs 2017
