    My wife had one, and compared to my Honda Shadow 750, it was a hotrod!! It just liked being ridden hard, whereas the Shadow liked pootling around at legal speeds enjoying the scenery. Great bike though.

    i found that the tallest gear ( 19×39 tooth sprockets) puts the driving speeds in the torque range. mine is quicker with that set up than with stock gearing. andch it doesn't feel like i need to keep shifting.

    Seriously considering this as my first bike, I'm a big ole boy 6ft 300 lbs, either this shadow 750, v star 650.

      Its a great first bike, it will last you too. Im 5'11 280 and it suites me well, even with a passenger. Ive had it for 4 years now. I may get something sportier in the near future, but I may keep the vulcan. Its a great cruiser and my GF loves it. You can probably get these pretty cheap too.

    Im in the market for cruiser that i can eventually mod to a bobber. I was deciding between Vulcan 800 and shadow 750, maybe honda nighthawlk.

      Михаил Кръстев Yes, just take sometime to feel out the friction zone. Then find an area where 1st to 3rd gear is normal. Get used to that. Next, find a parking lot and practice figure 8's. Then go to more open road.
      That's kinda how I learned on my VN800. Oh...She will pull you plus she got buck. It's a machine with enough power saying respect me and I'll take you there.

    Between this and V-Star 650, which is the better bike?

    I love my 2013 v star 650 custom. (23,000 miles) But one thing that sucks is the sound. No effort to make the bike sound good at all or even a little ballsy at all! Basically it sounds like a sewing machine. I mean more so than any other cruiser I have seen or heard. Even the Star 250 has a neat nice throaty mid rip tone to it. No such luck on the 650's. I compare it to how an acoustic guitar would sound if it was covered with a sleeping bag. When you twist the throttle on the Star 650's all I could think of (or picture in my mind) is a person holding on to their bellies, and the harder you hit them (or the throttle) it/they just yell "NOOOOO" Love my 650 but it is the lamest, most muffled sounding model on the market. It sounds ill if you try to hit the gas.

      Does yours still have stock pipes? A good set of de-baffled Cobra drag pipes would sound pretty awesome on those 650s. I like the seating position of the 650s, but I'm not sure if it would be right for me.

    • @billyjean2960
      @billyjean2960 6 років тому

      Yes they are the stock pipes' I could live with it. I do not want to re calibrate intake, jets & carbs and the gambit of needed mods to make the exhaust replacement be done correctly. I have just seen with many Yamaha models, at the factory they pay specific attention in the engineering department to sound in particular. Like on vmax, or the new ventures, etc. As I said even on the dinky little 250 stars. Yet the 650's are the most lame non existent sounds in their entire lineup. When you give the 650's throttle it really sounds like they dont like it. Sounds like its painful for it. There is no high end, mid rip, rumbling bottom, just nothing its just a sewing machine sound when riding at normal RPM's. (which I do. I am a modest rider) When you try to rip the throttle with the current stock set up, I swear its like the bike says loudly "Nooooo" It is what it is.
