- SCP 1958 is a Safe Class anomaly also known as Magic Bus.
SCP-1958 is a Volkswagen Type 2 Samba-Bus currently located in a region of interplanetary space near the orbit of Mars.
Aside from a severed coolant line on the undercarriage and a small dent on the rear fender, SCP1958 does not appear to have received any significant damage. The phrases "STARMOBILE" and "ALPHA CENTAURI OR BUST" have been spray-painted in English on the side panels of SCP-1958.

I can't believe they were able to build a Bus that let them go into space but doesn't know Alpha Centauri was 4.367 light-years away and three weeks of food won't cut it
If I remember correctly, the issue with 5thists is they are absolutely positively certain in whatever their ideas are and it's almost impossible to convince them otherwise.
They were sure it would only take 3 weeks to get there so they only planned for 3 weeks.

Where was their oxygen coming from and how did they remove the carbon dioxide? I think they would have died from lack of oxygen long before they starved to death.

Not even they wanted these guys drinking the Kool-Aid, but SCP-2456 implies that probably would've been a better way to go than slowly suffering in outer space, if the Fifthists waited a little longer.

@@aetherian31 Well, I don't know about people in the 50s-60s knowing it would take Light Years but they still had knowledge that travelling in Space would take multiple Years.
4.37 light years away. Even going the speed of light they only had food for three months for four people. Even if it was a single person journey, he’d still need about 4.5 times as much food, and all this isn’t taking into account the scurvy
I’m impressed that they actually thought about bringing seeds and animal embryos and even remembered to bring dehydrated food and to build a airlock and yet forgot basic stuff such as nutrition and distance, heck they didn’t even knew if there even was a earth like planet with breathable air and survivable temperatures near alpha centaury
I love how the bus had ARTIFICIAL GRAVITY. All of their movements and interactions were consistent with 1G of gravity under their feet.

Even discounting the effects of radiation on the bus, travelling at 82 mph top speed wouldn't even be enough to clear the Sun's sphere of influence before your died from starvation or dehydration.
Man if you are going to make a magic bus you could do the least and invest in some magical FTL drives, that's just basic sci-fi man.

How about oxygen resupply sure IF they got to Alpha Centuri they have to take in to consideration the soil , temperature, atmosphere (don't shot me but I forgot if alpha Centuri is a planet or a galaxy ) pressure etc. Even if they considered all that they need time from when they plant the seed till it fully grows for it to start making oxygen ( of course if it goes through photosynthesis so they might have to remove their helmet) so they weren't really thinking that hard

.... I wonder why noone from the SCP foundation has made the attempt to get the Star mobile bus. The fact they could DRIVE in space alone is a relic of 100% wonder. No need to waste 100's of thousands of millions of dollars for rocket fuel when a car with the ability to break the stratosphere is effective enough!
They did say the engine for the car was decades before it's time, because that gives us all the answers, we'll ever need!

Wow, this one is really sad. I just wonder, how could someone successfully modify a bus for space travel and draw star charts and have no idea how far away the star they're heading to is? I guess the vitamin issue is understandable- even today people still get it. A college student on a very limited diet managed to get it. I'm wondering though, how the heck were they able to keep breathing that long? It didn't seem like they had an oxygen supply system or a carbon dioxide filtering system. Was that just part of the bus' anomalous attributes? Also, eggs don't grow into adult animals without wombs to grow in. That part of the plan wouldn't have worked anyway.
The answer to all of the above is "just bad writing"
My read on it is that they had quite a lot right but missed a crucial detail here and there on literally everything. And unfortunately when you're dealing with space, you don't have that much room for error.

I don't know. The spaceship itself seems to be pretty functional, while the planning and preparation was what got them. Using scurvy from the poor food rationing makes sense as it links to the preparation, while radiation would break the point if the spaceship being functional.
Still requesting a list of everything Dr. Bright is now allowed to do at the SCP foundation. Dr. Bright is not allowed to attend comic conventions to use them as recruiting drives.

Like it was amazing that they had the intelligence to be able to convert a microbus into a spaceship, but it was incredibly slow of them to think that traveling to somewhere light years away would only take a few months. Maybe they should’ve invented light speed travel instead.

I have to say, normally you guys do a great job with these, but leaving out his exact last entry really hurts the tragedy of this SCP.
For those who don't know, the exact line is "the stars are so f***ing beautiful out here, man".
The last words really hit home how.. normal this kid was. Yeah, he was smart enough to build this ship, but he was just your average teen with poor common sense, excited to explore the universe and make his mark on it in his own way, and in the end, he died for his unfulfilled dream.

Other than the fact that it's a highly advanced bus floating in space, I'm not sure if it can really be classified as an SCP

It used anomalous technology to get there in the first place.
1. They are originally part of the anomalous group about fifthist.
2. The technology they used at the time to get to space is decades too early to be plausible (and before it was allowed to be deemed "normal" by the foundation)
So yeah, both can be classed as part of groups of interest and an scp.
The one incident I can think of where "shoot for the moon" would mean "temper your expectations."

One thing they forgot on their trip was something like a bonsai tree or some small form of plant as it has been shown that when in space the human mind suffers without some form of plant life. Maybe something like the bonsai garden that appears in cowboy bebop. I also think they may not have had proper protection from radiation and the like
