Ok, now I want to add something useful. What made the older simpler editions so much fun is how dramatically the magical items your character acquires will shape their overall identity. We rarely say " I'm playing a 5th Level Fighter". It was usually, "I'm playing a 5th level Fighter with a +3 Spear of Continual Light and Boots of Flying".
Yeah, the pre-3rd edition D&D was more focused on magic items & equipment for character flavor. Often spent more time wondering how you could use your equipment in various situations rather than class abilities & feats. Made the hunger for loot quite pronounced.
@@NefariousKoel And that;s why we played with every spare hour we could find in a week. That's the key that they are ignoring. By "they" I mean every "OSR" and really RPG of the current era. It may not be fashionable, but that's where the magic is.
Sorry to hear about your loved one, Bro! Prayers for ya and them! 👊🙏 Dragonbane is awesome, indeed! Like you, I play various games, and what my family likes and wants to play, is what we play. 😋
Rob, I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you mentioning that you are involved with your church. As a fellow Christian, my faith is the most important thing in my life and I’m glad to hear other Christians that are also into gaming. You have a great channel and I am even more interested in it now! :-)
Yeah I ran from God for a long time but about 3 years ago I gave it all over to Jesus. I love gaming and use it as a type of outreach for God! For awhile I was scared to bring God up in my videos, but with all God has done to turn my life around and bless me and my family, I no longer have any fear about bringing up my faith. Anyone that does not like it is free to watch something else. Glad to have you aboard!
Great to see a new video. I am a second edition fan of WHF. I have picked up some of the 4th edition books and the starter box set is amazing. Take care of your family and have a great week.
Feels good to be back to making some videos again! Your videos have been amazing, and inspired me to look even deeper into WFRP. Thanks for all the great content you make! Have a great week!
I think the freebie module 'Night Of Blood' for WFRP is a superb one-shot intro for players new to the Old World. Notably shows them the Call Of Cthulhu-like horror aspects of the setting that's often mixed in. Notably a good intro for the Enemy Within campaign's flavor.
I love, love, love the Warhammer world and "feel" (that grimdark feel) especially for a rpg campaign, and I play in a game every other week of 4th edition Warhammer Fantasy rpg, but I will warn you it is super crunchy for the GM. It's crunchy enough for players, but for the GM, it's really crunchy IMHO. There are a LOT of rules and subrules that the GM has to keep in mind, especially in combat. My only complaint with the system itself, and this is just personal taste you might really like this, but although it is a percentile system, it is an abstracted percentile system. The final result for a die roll is the relative distance between the target number, usually the stat, and the roll. So you can, for example, "fail" at a roll (rolling above your stat) but still "succeed" because your opponent rolled farther above their stat than you did. It works well, and it does give you more flexibility because a roll is not bounded by the distance between the target number and the maximum or minimum roll on the dice. But it is sort of a weird way to think about task resolution IMO. But as far as the world goes? Warhammer is awesome!
It has crunch for sure but I've had that before in other games so it shouldn't be too bad on me. I plan to just take it slow and make sure everyone understands as much as we can before making characters. I love the lore of The Old World so... here goes! Thanks for the very insightful comment!
Looks like I get to be the one to tell you that, that is not "Original D&D". I point this out ( with shameless self satisfaction ) because "Original D&D" refers to another specific edition ( the original white box ).
Dragonbane & WFRP!

I think that's what's missing from Dragonbane. It could really benefit from a good equipment / magic item supplement.

Good video Rob. I'm glad you're active in your church. My sympathy for your loved one in. Hospice. Thanks for making this video!

Thanks a bunch!

Dragonbane is just too good!

True enough. But this is "my" original D&D. BX also came out before BECMI... But I don't care for it or the "Original"...so....
@@AdventuresWithDice Fair enough.
