The 2016 Aston Martin Vulcan is a rare, track-only hypercar designed to push the limits of performance and showcase Aston Martin’s engineering capabilities. Limited to just 24 units, the Vulcan is one of the most exclusive and powerful cars Aston Martin has ever produced, featuring extreme aerodynamics, a bespoke V12 engine, and a lightweight carbon-fiber body that together create a visceral and raw track experience.
Powering the Vulcan is a 7.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine, developed in collaboration with Aston Martin’s racing partner, Aston Martin Racing. This engine produces 820 horsepower and 780 Nm of torque, channeled through a 6-speed sequential Xtrac transmission to the rear wheels. With no turbocharging, the V12 delivers a high-revving, immediate throttle response, providing a thrilling soundtrack and explosive acceleration. The Vulcan can launch from 0 to 60 mph in around 2.9 seconds, with a top speed of over 200 mph (322 km/h).
The Vulcan’s chassis and body are constructed from lightweight carbon fiber, bringing its weight down to approximately 1,350 kg (2,976 lbs). Its fully adjustable suspension includes anti-dive geometry and pushrod dampers, inspired by racing setups to deliver exceptional handling. The Vulcan’s braking is handled by carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes that provide immense stopping power, ensuring the car can handle the intense demands of high-speed track driving.
The aerodynamics of the Vulcan are extreme and purpose-built. The car’s massive front splitter, rear diffuser, and adjustable rear wing generate substantial downforce, keeping the car stable even at very high speeds. The Vulcan’s aggressive lines, low stance, and wide track make it clear that it was designed for the track, with every surface crafted to optimize airflow and minimize drag. Aston Martin claims that the Vulcan generates more downforce than its GT3 race cars, enhancing its grip and cornering capabilities to an extraordinary level.
Inside, the interior is spartan and race-focused, with a racing seat, roll cage, and digital display for essential driving information. The cockpit is filled with lightweight materials like carbon fiber and Alcantara, and features include a removable steering wheel with integrated controls and a simple, digital dashboard to give the driver clear and immediate information. While the interior lacks typical road-car comforts, it remains elegantly crafted, showcasing Aston Martin’s attention to detail even in this raw performance machine.
Aston Martin provided owners with an intensive driver training program to help them master the Vulcan’s power and handling, as the car's capabilities demand skill and respect. With no option for road-legal use, the Vulcan is meant for track days and private circuits, serving as a demonstration of Aston Martin’s engineering prowess.
In summary, the 2016 Aston Martin Vulcan is a track-only hypercar that offers an unfiltered driving experience with an immensely powerful V12, lightweight carbon-fiber construction, and radical aerodynamics. Its exclusivity, extreme design, and engineering make it a collector's dream and an unforgettable showcase of Aston Martin’s dedication to performance and craftsmanship.
