Good learning experience for your helper. Make him check that amp draw and the pressures as well just to confirm the heat killing that cap. Crap caps now a days. I just seen an old '93 HS29 with the original cap, tested within spec, amazing. Those things are bullet proof
Been using the Klein erosion of the Malco bit, and as they look the same and been using the Malco bits (all sizes: 2, 4, 6) the Klein is nice as able to put a ¼” bit in w/o taking Klein nut driver off and that’s a cool feature. Being able to install a PH1-2, Robbie 1-2, & Torx is pretty nice, imo. As far as durability and magnet retention and durability over time….will have to see; but know how the Malcos hold up over time and they hold up great, & very durable……so, interesting to see if one’s better etc…. ✌🏻
Did you amp. clamp the fan motor & comp. after the cap. got replaced? The oil from that shaft bearing on that iffy motor would be enough for me to decide to change it out rather than chance killing the compressor when it siezes up, and it will some day, we just don't know when, but we know it has a greater potential to do so quicker than a new motor. Avoid a potential call back and charge a little less for the motor change since you're already there and have the thing apart and it'll add zero extra time to the job while you're waiting for the coil cleaner and compressor cool down.
Mike, get the new klein 32907. It is an impact flip socket like the malco but it has 6 different sizes. Great for panels and motor brackets, etc. 1/4, 5/16, 11/32, 3/8, 7/16, and 1/2.

R22 is extremely expensive, doing repairs on a 35 year old system unless it’s a contactor or capacitor, will just lead to finding more issues. Evaporator most likely will be leaking.
