Let's be honest, the Michigan defensive line won this game. They were dominant.
Not tooting my own here but, I felt this was the complete key to the game. Even though Alabama's O-line improved during the year, especially that left side, they were still suspect. Michigan made them look like high schoolers on pass protection!
Mason, Grant, and Jenkins in the middle of that line are just beasts.
I was very surprised at how good Michigan's D line was. That unit won the game.
If Michigan special teams were not nervous this game would not have been that close
Alabama on the other hand with the squad they have this season I think its a miracle they made it this far

But this is a clear example of a fanbase not use to being on top. Still swinging down and eventually you'll be back on the floor. Remember it was only a few years ago y'all wanted Harbaugh fired and was crying over losing to OSU. One good year out of 25 humble yourself. Bama's O-Line was horrible, as it has been all season. Milroe was sacked 5 times in the 1st half alone. Snap issues between him and the center multiple times throughout the game, as the center was trying to snap and get ready faster. The running game was decent, but the passing game was terrible.
Michigan's defense played better than Bama's offense, and that's what decided the game ultimately.
I agree with that assessment. Alabama ran very well with their adjustments, especially on the edges. UM bowed up 1/2 into the 4rth and that was that.
I love how that last play was so bad that nobody can be clear on what the actual call was.
QB Draw. Low snap, bad blocking by Bama O-line, and good push and disruption from Michigan defense. The play just didn't work out.

Hard to think of any other college football team that has ever faced more distractions during a season than this UofM team. I don't think we have seen a team this resilient.
Thats why it’s hard not to root for them. Although I’m a Bama fan from California I also root for Coach Harbaugh and he got railroaded this year. They All try and steal signs, my gosh as a baseball player we’ve been doing that for decades. With TV that everyone has, Why did they single out Michigan. Go Big Blue and watch Harbaugh go back to the NFL. The NCAA is ridiculous
@@garyroenicke2102 its pretty clear there is a personal vendetta against him by the powers at be. Seems like with all of the probing its an attempt of death by 1000 cuts. Seeing the Big 10 overreact the way they did before the PSU game was disappointing. Everything was thrown at them to railroad the team. It really just brought them together. I lost a lot of respect for the conference as a collective. I don't think the SEC would cannibalize its best school because of speculation.

Bama fan here. Congrats to Michigan they played a great game. Both offensively and defensively. I think the game could have gone very differently on both sides but that’s how it goes. Michigan came out on top this time.
On our end a lot of work to do cleaning up the O-line for next season and hopefully Tommy Rees finds a new program to call home. His firing would be the first I did this morning if I was coach Saban. lol hopefully that also includes a center who can actually snap the ball 😂

Michigan and Washington are older, more experienced, have been playing together longer, have team unity and played like heavy weight fighters

Both defenses were amazing. Our offense just couldn’t capitalize because of our center and o line. Michigan was just the better team yesterday and wanted it more.
For the most part, Bama fans have been very gracious in defeat and have been giving credit where its due.... But I am seeing this same comment on these threads that their Center gave Michigan the game. Why do you think he was nervous and constantly miss snapping?? Hmmmm do you think maybe its because he was lined up across a defensive line that was destroying him all game?? Oh no.... It cant be that. He was shook. Plain and simple.... focused more on snapping faster than with actual technique to get a quicker start on his blocks.

Alabama did play well despite its defense often failing to quickly to adapt quickly to Michigan's ever-changing offensive strategy. I saw 2 Bama games this season which underwhelmed me as they were lucky to narrowly scraped by with a one-point victory against relatively unknown teams. With that baggage, I considered Bama to be lucky to be included in the top 4.
Even with that, Bama played a decent game. You can say Michigan special teams was terrible, and Bama’s center was terrible. At the end of the day it was a hell of a game between two powerhouses that went down to the wire. What a spectacle to watch at the Rose Bowl.
Well when you beat Georgia which nobody else seems to be able to accomplish, that gets you in. My Gosh, Georgia has Won 45 of 47 games and both losses to Alabama

True that but Bama lost on OT and last play losses last year at both Tennessee and LSU. Big time flukes. Georgia had barely been challenged forever and were going to lose one. There were very few upsets this year.
Both teams made mistakes that helped the other team. Michigan had a great game plan to take advantage of their strength in the trenches, that's why they won.
What mistake did Bama make though? Michigan had unforced errors that at mistakes. Bama had poor plays that Michigan created. Bamas only fumble was ripped out of Milroes hand. The low snaps were caused by the pressure from Michigans D line.
@@jamesureel2853 I would classify the struggles with snap accuracy as mistakes that definitely influenced the game.
@@boblynn9168 yea they did influence the game but they were forced errors. Michigans d line was getting up so quick the center was struggling to snap it and try to block. That is significantantly different than muffing two punts and the holder botching an XP and FG attempt. Those aren’t forced errors that the other team created.

I think now with the transfer portal and NIL teams are now able to catch up to Bama talent wise I feel like the reason Bama was so dominant in the past was because of the elite coaching and the gap in recruiting and talent
Great game plan for Michigan, special teams will bounce back since that was clearly the outlier game this season. Blake is trusting that knee again, hellacious jump cut, should be explosive in the championship game
Now I tried telling Alabama folk sanristil Johnson and Moore were going to make things very very hard for the pass game and that's exactly what they did. They are so f'n good and they'll shut down Washington's pass game.

What went wrong for Bama? That’s easy. They NEVER deserved to be in the playoff this year. PERIOD. ESPN gifted them a spot they didn’t earn or deserve because they were never one of the four best teams this season.
FSU sued their own conference with representatives on the committee. Then they quit. Alabama took the best team in the country to OT after beating the two time champs with a 29 game win streak where they were the last team to beat them before that. Bama's pedigree is fine. They lost a championship ballgame to a great team.
What Happened? BET and America's Team showed up.. Who's got it better

Michigan and Alabama are now 3-3 historically. I am sure game 7 will happen soon with the new expanded playoffs.
McLaughlin has had snap issues even since he started last year. They were never fixed and I knew it would potentially cost Alabama severely, and it did!
Hate to say it, but Saban should be ashamed of himself. All the 5* recruits he gets every year, and he can't beat a team that gets one, or maybe two on a real good year. Michigan won because, from top to bottom, they out coached Alabama.
Actually, Michigan is a minimum top 25 recruiter since Harbaugh has been there. It’s actually Washington that barely gets 4 star recruits.

Looks like Harbaugh is building these 3-4 stars into pretty good players- probably has better coaches with him too. So what he did in making the CFP 3 straight years is amazing- what would he do with the Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State rosters- probably never lose another game- he needs to go win a SB

Alabama's loss and near loss during the season suggested they were beatable. On Monday, their running game was fairly good, but throwing was not. The problem with the snaps did not help them. The shifting motion, and imbalance up front by Michigan, had Alabama's defense often confused. Michigan's special teams were terrible (they've been solid all year), defense was very good and the secondary held bama to 117 passing yards. The offense made mistakes, but they came back with a minute and a half left and tied it to win the game in o.t. This team has grit and character. Offensive and Defensive coordinators for Michigan had solid plans for the game. Overall, Michigan was the better team and deserved the win.

Despite a terrible first half we has a 7 point lead with 4 minutes left and our D couldn't make a stop. There's just no excuse for that.
I will say this…..Alabama offensive play calling was puzzling. I don’t understand why they didn’t continue to run the ball in the 4th when they were averaging nearly 5 yds a carry. Once they got a false start all the sudden they had to pass the ball…
1-2 yd pass plays they hadn’t called all year, and that last play call, OMG! Try read option and roll out, pass or run

actaully on top of the mistakes they made on that. it seems like Doman was off his game. his punts were a lot shorter than he nomrally does. and he normally doesn't miss 49 yard field goals. in addition to th especaial teams errors, there as the dumb offensive penalty afte ra 1st down that put them back 15 from that spot , there was the totally botched flea flicker play that was dropped pushing them way back on what would have easily been a field goa.l, and there was the throw to the guy who lost his fotting 2 yards shy of a first down that would have easily goten it .
Sainristil was around the edge on Milroe left right after the snap. There was no where to go for Milroe
We had the chance to win the game hats off to Michigan they a really good football team the defense looked elite and they was prepared more than we was our problem is our offensive line including our center and milroe I like milroe but he got to get his passing done and learn how to read a defense he takes to long in the pocket throwing the ball and he need to stop goin off one read he get it together tho roll tide die hard
the stunts/twists shouldn't have come as a surprise to alabama; the DL coach elston's entire resume reflects how his DL's produce using stunts & twists. the job the UM DC did deserves more credit than you want to give him.
Any time a game is decided on the last play, it was a good game!!!! Bama played well but we had missed opportunities. Saban will be ready next year...

Why are we talking like this was an amazing football game? It wasn't the worst, but it was far from amazing. Alabama would have only had like 10 points if Michigan didn't make so many mistakes. Milton played very poorly and clearly we got to see first hand why Alabama didn't really deserve to be in over FSU or Georgia.

Agree with everything but the "outcoached" and "both sides." Coaches aren't responsible for snapping the ball in the dirt, for effecting defensive "handoffs," for not fumbling, for executing blocks, etc. Guarantee the coaches taught it correctly- the players need to execute!
Also, Bama rushed for over 200yds! They did the job on run-blocking, but their pass pro was horrible against M's front!
Georgia was the better team and unfortunately lost the wrong game. A one loss UGA should have made the playoffs. Going forward this won’t be an issue due to the 12 team playoff. If you disagree then just admit your bias and move forward. UGA was no doubt one of the best 4 teams. Got robbed of defending their back to back title.

I’m a Michigan fan and I think I agree with you that they were better than Alabama, but they messed up their shot and you’re gonna have to learn to live with it.
UGA is outstanding, but their luck ran out too. It happens to everybody. Our Bama dynasty run really ended with the "kick six," because we have lost more big games than we've won ever since. But they still beat the Dawgs every time but once because somewhat of playing with no starting wide receivers and somewhat due to the end of another of our lucky, overmatched teams blowing up. .The Georgians bragged a lot all season, and the fall would come sometime. Nobody wins forever. Just takes one. Might have come against Michigan. But Kirby is young, great, and merciless, and Alabama;'s ex DC. Won more titles with us than with Georgia to this day.

They played a terrific game, were coached well and a champion. My congratulations.

I watched that last play and there was no way Bama could throw the ball as every receiver was covered man-for-man. Furthermore, the QB didn't pay attention to any receiver. He stuck to the game plan and charged straight forward but, unfortunately, there were no holes for him to go through. All in all, I would say that both teams matched one another. It was not a blowout like the Michigan-Ohio State game. Bama matched Michigan's intensity better, and had it not been for the stupid fumble in the first quarter by the Michigan's special teams that turned into an easy Bama touchdown, Michigan could have prevailed more significantly. But, because of Bama's tough showing, I'd say #1 is Michigan and Bama is a close #2 (but also, a less possibility, Washington sharing #2) for this season.

Alabama was never a real championship contender outside of the media hype because they've had a terrible QB. They won games despite Milroe making game melting dumb plays, running into sacks and just having terrible field vision. It's easy to make deep completions when your WR has torched his defender.
But the media (SEC/ABC/ESPN) told us FSU was the one with the really bad offense.

Bama beat Georgia. Nobody had beaten them since Bama did it last time. Georgia was number one. Quitter U has no similar quality victory. No experts needed to go beyond that. And you can compare Bama losing in OT to Michigan with your fairy tale wish not to have lost by sixty but it still goes into the books.
In essence...Michigan utilized the 30 days to bring something new to the table in their passing game. Bama didn't, they had no new creativity on offense, combine that with chronic bad snaps...that gave Michigan the edge.

Bama's O line and Secondary have been bad for three years. I think they need to bring in a established QB from the portal to make Milroe elevate his game. I think beating Georgia in Atlanta was their Natty.

What happened is Alabama got beat by a better team. They were close to being a three game loser is regular season. The corruption in the NCAA managed to stick them in the playoff cause the powers that be had to have an SEC team in the four.

Nothing was wrong with Bama. This is who they were all year. The best team in the SEC lost to Alabama. People need to remember that in football, it’s one and done. It’s not a best of seven like other sports so the best team does not always win. Georgia is the SEC best, and Bama showed you who they are just like at Auburn. Both teams made mistakes all day, you cannot just talk about the Bama mistakes as why they lost, and take it as a given that Michigans mistakes meant nothing. If Michigan makes no mistakes and Bama makes none, results the same or a Michigan blow out.
Well I tend to think Bama has Georgia’s number and would have beat them also 2 yrs ago if their top receiver hadn’t got hurt end of 1st half. Just was a bad matchup for Bama with Smart and well coached Michigan team.
@@garyroenicke2102 Bama does have Georgias number. At least in the Saben era, that’s why I picked them to win the SEC Championship. But Georgia is the better team. They have been better for years, but for some reason they play timid against Bama. Even the year they beat them, they did not realize Bama could not stop them till the fourth quarter when they ran every down for the go ahead TD.

Effort and execution!! Bama players didnt play to their full potential and a runningback at quarterback isnt gonna get it done! With the very good receivers Bama has they deserve a quarterback that can get them the ball! I've watched receivers wide open all season and Milroe just cant get the ball out when it needs to go out and where it needs to go! I just dont think he will ever be a great passer consistently!!!
Milroe actually had a terrific passing season from game 4 on. His Avg per attempt was one of the best, look it up. They need Big Play receivers. I also think Milroe will be in the Heisman race next year

Is it possible Alabama just really isn’t as good of a team as we thought? They needed a miracle to beat Auburn. They barely beat a banged up Georgia, even with help from the refs, and they looked very underwhelming against Michigan. I would argue the wrong team represented the SEC in the playoff.

All year milroe has been incapable of finding wide open receivers. He never scans the field. Generally looking for 1 guy then trying to run it. He can't be the best qb there.

FSU even with their starters were not as good as Bama, although FSU was more deserving of a playoff spot and Bama beat Georgia. So if Bama shouldn't be there, who then? Mich and Wash were locked, Texas dominated their championship game, Bama beat #1 Georgia, and FSU looked terrible against Louisville. It's delusional to think FSU would have beaten Bama. The top 4 teams in the country were the 4 that got in, it is what it is. 12-team playoff next season will be better.
