What I liked was how you "maintained" when the old guy brushed your hand away from the thermostat. That shows class Mikey. The old man must be a real treat at an auto repair shop! LOL
That’s a York champion III. I have one of those at my house from 1968, still working flawlessly. Doesn’t leak, gets cold. I can’t bring myself to replace it yet and I do HVAC work all the time. Other than the ancient reciprocating compressor in it, it’s a good unit. I install the soft start with delay on the compressor. Got rid of that stupid two speed fan control that failed and fixed a few other little things but overall it’s been working great. I do enjoy actually working on old equipment like that, some of that stuff was built to last an eternity and I’m sad that you don’t get that quality nowadays.
I have head these old blue beast units called YORK Champions as well as tabletop units (they look like a coffee table)They had the same look from the late 50's to early 80's. The units in my area referred to as 'Tombstone' were the units from the 70's that looked like a headstone and they had 1 fan motor that operated 2 (shafts)sets of fan blades that blew air out on each side and they were rounded on top like a tombstone. I could be wrong, and let me know if I am wrong. I just always remembered these old units and was amazed at the ones that were still running. Your videos are AWESOME!
Glad you took my advice Mike, the day in the life stuff is my new favorite! That first condenser though, oh man did it give me nightmares of a call I did a few weeks back, except it involved tons of wasps! Also, that supply house was awful!

When I had an old Tempstar condenser replaced after 30 years the old rusty capacitor still was good! These new Chinese capacitors just aren’t as good as the “old ones”!
not to offend mike, but you can see the yellow wire start on the 4 prong, and the red on 3 prong herm,it happens to all of us for rushing, that is why it spun backwards.the way you left it should work fine,2 caps.
Hey Mike I remembered a great nickname a guy I worked with got because he sat down so much. They called him Roots. Maybe a possible nickname for Ethan.
Mike was correct, red wire & the purple wire go to the C (Common) terminal on the capacitor. The brown wire goes to the fan terminal. He showed sippy cup correctly. Yes the purple wire comes from the fan but it goes to the C terminal. 👍

My 1st unit I ever worked on by myself was a York tombstone(rounded with condenser shaped in an upside down U. My boss was stupidvising me, the screws in the thing were 3 or 4 inches, I ask, "should we put smaller ones in it?" he replied no, just run those back in, so I took my nut driver and started screwing away, it got tighter and tighter, I was having to use 2 hands at this point, so I stopped, and ask, "Is it supposed to keep getting tighter like this?" he said, "Just keep going", I said, "But you dont understand, its really tight and got tighter as I went?" he said, "Keep going, it is fine" so I gave it a really good turn and electricity shot out every where and wouldnt stop, metal caught fire, no disconnect and no meter on the house with no fuses or breakers, it finally stopped popping and burning, this house was direct wired from the shop next door and where the meter loop was supposed to be, it had lugs with all of the legs lugged in and was smoking and the line ran over to the shop and was tied in direct at the weather head. I was nervous every time I worked on one of those after that, and I always put shorter screws back in if it had those longer screws, for what ever reason, who knows, some "Whodunitsrepair shop guy" probably had a bucket of those he needed to use up, cause every unit I came to in that area had those long screws in it. Needless to say, I learned early on, before doing this kind of work, always use the tools properly, never touch the metal shaft and always, ALWAYS treat everything like it is a live circuit, even if the disconnect is pulled.
Whent to a job today and the guy asked me to get his boiler working for him, I get there and there’s nothing there dude cut all the pipes, wiring and gas and I asked him what happened to all the pipes, radiators etc and he says I cut it out last week didn’t think I needed it😂😂😂
