There are tons of games with pre-rendered sprites that don't appear in the video (mostly adventure games and RPGs). For the selection I focused more on action games and platformers
I wish there were new games that used this graphical style. Many of the ones shown here still look awesome!! ^^

Sadly, these games are low resolution console games. The only good more modern games I know of are the games from Wild Snake Software. They made Microsoft Pinball Arcade and also other Pinball games like Invasion Pinball, Christmas Tree Pinball and Soccer Stars Pinball. Most of their games can run in 1024×768 resolution and high framerate which looks really good and they managed to master the art of masking and composing the sprites so that it feels very interactive and 3D although it's pre-rendered. (I guess they used pre-rendered graphics because that's how it looks to me but I'm not 100% sure.) The games still run smoothly on modern versions of Windows but they shut down their website in 2020.
1:09 Ah, Rise of the Robots, the classic example of a game that looks like a million bucks, but plays a 1.98$. I also like how the box hyped up Brian Mays of Queen contributing music, when in reality it only used a 10-second snip of "The Dark" instead. Anyway, this is one of my favorite videos you've done! I miss this old-fashioned approach to CGI! The characters look like toys and move like stop-motion puppets! It's such a cool approach to spriteart!
Those games had great digitized cutscenes, probably they just took photos of a toy chopper and tank from all the isometric angles and digitized them to sprites, cheaper than modeling and rendering them in 3d. But I would love to get a source on this.
@@GeomancerHT we didn't take a toy model, we modeled them in 3D and rendered out frames. Then, the frames were taken into our proprietary sprite editor and cleaned up (a lot), by hand. There's over 150 frames for the choppers alone in Strike games. All of that had to be held in memory, always and resident in the measly 64k of VRAM (that's video ram for all you out there that think Genesis may have had anything like a modern GPU... spoiler... it didn't). And if you want to know my source, it's because I made those games.
Puggsy's intro cutscene is a nice earlier example, but there's also Xexex, Ultimate Tennis, The Journeyman Project and Myst, Wing Commander: Privateer and Darius Gaiden
Dude... This channel is a criminally underrated gold mine of fun. Here's a well earned +1 sub. I keep discovering and remembering a lot of crazy games thanks to this channel.
Thank you very much for your kind words, you encourage me to keep uploading content. The channel will grow, and it will be one of the great ones. I have full confidence in it.
Your lists are pretty cool and you use the correct aspect ratio for the games. Keep up the good work! If you're open to criticism, I'd suggest to remove the two or three sentences you use for each game, it's just distracting and generally states the obvious (like "Killer Instinct makes heavy use of pre-rendered graphics")
Really enjoying your vids keep up the good work. Also you used the wrong Gex info in the vid, you showed Gex but the pic and timeline says enter the gecko which was the second game not the first.
¡Buen video!
the coolest weere prendered sprites floating in basic 3d geometry. can you do these more. i love this self conscius fakery. its the opposite of uncalley valley we have in nearly all the boring modern games
The only reason why Donkey Kong Country is a platform game with 3D rendered sprites is to compete with 1991's Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega on the other hand tried to top DKC by making Vectorman 1 & 2.
Ahhh... Buenos diasss ...
Awesome topic you have here, even if it lacks many games like Primal Rage and Crescent Galaxy, for example. I've always prefered detailed curved pre-rendering over low polygon games. If only character animation would be smoother, then visuals would wipe the floor early blocky polygon games.
Oddworld is one of those games that shows an alien world in a dire circumstance, but is so scarily realistic to how things would work out in that situation. There is advertising for the company, but it's all dirty and gross because the Glukkons are to cheap to clean it, forcing them to work in an environment that can and does easily kill them, either by disease or dangerous equipment in poorly placed areas. Even more realistic, is it's you, the player, who needs to do the best they can to save as many as possible. You singlehandedly must save them. Saying that miracles happen because of ambitious individuals, or teams of individuals, they don't just come out of nowhere.
They made the models, positioned them on a fixed angle, animated them and then rendered them into 2D images to use on the games. It's similar with the way they did the old Mortal Kombat games, but instead of using footage of real people they used 3D models.

You forgot the Sonic Blast. It also have a pre-rendered graphics, but its... a 8-bit game for Game Gear.
@@OlgilvieMauriceTheHedgehog It is not a definitive list.

All of the tanks and especially the choppers in Desert, Jungle and Urban Strike were rendered and turned into sprites, too.
Some of my fav genesis games

I find these type of graphics to still look really nice, also I'm nostalgic for them as I was obsessed with pre rendered graphics as a kid.
Another outstanding video thanks dude 👍
Johnny Bazookatone would have been cool to play and own, but it had viretually no advertisement back in the day, so I am sad I missed out on it T
Once again another impressive vid Bits & Beats welcome back bro.

I don't think people understand how mind-blowing the visuals for Killer Instinct's arcade game were at the time of release!
Great work....as always....congratulations
Redneck Rampage!! Thank you for including one of my favorites here. So underrated.

Pre rendered graphics does a great job giving a futuristic look. The games that were sci-fi were the best looking.

Better?
These definitely benefit from being viewed on a CRT.
Or just with CRT-like filters.
Thank you.
Johnny Bazookatone looks more like a cross between Earthworm Jim and Gex

NIce video man. What programm do you use to edit and make the motion graphics?
Many thanks! After Effects + Premiere

And Heart of darkness ? Command and conquer - Red alert ? Little Big Adventure?
Cool
Showing the Snes version of Toy Story instead of the Megadrive one? Awwww maaaaaan...
I really enjoy Oddworld
Clayfighter? Primal Rage?
Stop motion
What Mauriciz said
How did they make these? Create a cg model and then trace the sprites over them?
Anyway, I HATE games that look like these lol
They just digitized 3D cgi.
They made the models, positioned them on a fixed angle, animated them and then rendered them into 2D images to use on the games.
It's similar with the way they did the old Mortal Kombat games, but instead of using footage of real people they used 3D models.

DIablo PlayStation 1??
Yo... What about Skullmonkeys? Still, liked the video
It's Claymation!
