Kunitsugami meaning the Deity of Land/Country.
In my opinion
Yoshiro is tasked to absorb the tainted evil in order to ascend into Godhood while she summons her guardian Soh to protect her in the journey.
This guardian at the same time is neither mortal or immortal as the guardian is actually a shikigami, summoned to protect while at the same time able to wield the power that has been absorbed by Yoshiro.
After Yoshiro absorbed all the evil Yokai essence, her body petrifies signaling her duty is complete and for her reward is to be adored as guardian of the land, Soh however retained Yoshiro appearance to fulfill the duty as the guardian of the land.
Since Yoshiro apparently also did a prayer to a similar statue at the opening cutscene right before the Defilement came in. I wonder if this "chosen people turning into statue after absorbing all of the defilements of the land" thing is actually a continous, never ending Cycle. First statue most likely is the end fate of the previous shrine maiden before Yoshiro, until said statue got replaced by Yoshiro's body which turned into a stone during the ending cutscene.
Afterall, the special collab vid between Capcom & National Bunraku Theatre that was uploaded in their ch. yesterday stated that when the sins of Humanity is becoming over abundant and turn into terror, the Defilement is soon to follow the sign.
Humanity never stop sinning, as they will eventually forgot the actions of Yoshiro, Soh, and the brave villagers did to save their land. The history will become a myth overtime, and later generations will think of it as a mere legend or scary bed time story for kids. Thus they will eventually gonna repeat the same mistake like their ancestors did during Yoshiro's time, as the Defilement return to the land once more.
Perhaps when that time comes, Soh will take Yoshiro's position, and they may have their own guardian who will take Soh's previous position. Who knows.
Whenever Yoshiro's power is weakened, Soh will turn into a spirit form. Backing up your claim of Soh being a Shikigami or entity similar to that. Meaning the body is artificially created. But since we see Soh return to the mortal realm once more as they observe the villagers before walking away, that may be the indication that Soh is reincarnated as a proper human, no longer depending on Yoshiro's power to keep themselves to stay materialize. Ready to take Yoshiro's position now that they aren't a summon anymore.
@@meremsolomon4744 I wouldn't think that Soh would took the position as the "sacrificial" maiden as Soh exist only to protect the maiden. But if there are a new maiden like Yoshiro, Soh will reappear once more.

I think what I said earlier would make much more sense with the purpose of Soh having similar face with Yoshiro.
We basically have Zero clue if Soh already have that face since the beginning or is it only there during the time when Soh met Yoshiro in the spirit realm for the last goodbye. Opening the possibility that the previous statue of late shrine maiden may have the same "Yoshiro face" so to speak.
Add to the fact that ingame female villagers (human NPCs with the Crane icon) is quite versatile when it comes to their role assertion. As they can also occupy roles other than Shaman, such as Marksman, Archer & Woodcutter which are the fields mostly dominated by men. Sumo Wrestler is the only role which the female villagers cannot take, meanwhile male villagers (human NPCs with Turtle icon) can take any available roles but Shaman. So even if Soh is already a "woman" (despite somewhat a being akin to that of Shikigami, if not already is) who have the similar face to that of Yoshiro this whole time, changing one's role from a blademaster to shrine maiden isn't a odd possibility.

No one here said that Soh is dead though, Yoshiro is.
The first phase of Nanamagari definitely is the stronger form. It's like the real body is using an armor to protect itself which also allows them access to superior offensive arsenal. Or in pop culture term, it's as if they're riding a mecha lol
And I've noticed Nanamagari during the first phase has some moves that the previous Festering Sheetes (basically a group of enemy bosses) has. Which is befitting for a final boss.
Soh will return...

did yoshiro become a goddess in the end? the last artwork in the art gallery implies it though but still not sure
She became Soh the Guardian for the next loop which is the new game plus....if you beat that you get the true ending.
I got before the last boss there is no stage to the final boss the only stage I see is head to the summit ? Pls help
